This is such an awesome little bakery! The display cases are always stuffed with so many great deserts, cakes, breads, cookies and pastries. I first stopped in this place because they had a sign by the road that said Pineapple Upside Down Cake. (Turned my blinker on immediately!). We had Simple Simon do the cupcakes for our wedding, 10 years ago. They were so easy to work with, even though we were planning our wedding from afar. They allowed my mom to pick up cake samples and bring them to us, they were so reasonably priced AND just so accommodating with coming to the venue to place them wherever we needed them. They even satisfied a special request from my mom, which was to have a chocolate cupcake with chocolate frosting just for her. Everyone STILL raves about the cupcakes from our wedding. Flash forward to today. We were in the area celebrating our double-digits and thought it was a MUST to stop and pick up a cake or cupcakes to honor the occasion. Their bakery counter is just one area of their business, and a very small space, but they do well with working the room and helping everyone in a timely manner. Wow!! I am so glad that with all of the bakery's we sampled that we went with simple Simon!! We were able to do everything so seamlessly with Dawn she really made our day special!! Stopped into this bakery while I was in town for work mid-afternoon today. The woman behind the counter was very polite. When I told her it was my first time there, she laughed and said, "I've had a lot of first timers recently." Then I told her I was from out of town and she seemed a little sad I wouldn't be a return customer. I told her that I'd be in town occasionally so I might be. I ordered a donut and it was very good. She had also asked me if I wanted to buy some cookies since they were on sale today. I can't say enough about the cake made by Simple Simon Bakery. I contacted Dawn through email because we live about 2.5 hours from their location and being disabled makes it difficult to travel very far. I was in charge of the wedding cake for my son's wedding. The bride gave me free reign to design and make decisions about the cake. She had never seen it or anything about it. My husband sketched the cake for me, I had the flowers, ribbon and topper sent to them. When the cake arrived at our venue, it was absolutely perfect!!! It looked exactly as we had requested. The flavors were wonderful. My guests loved it and everyone wanted to know where we got it from. An eclair that makes my heart pound. Danishes that impose a perma-grin on my face. But the customer service was unbelievable. I'm on an overnight in a hotel downtown and upon check-in decided to succumb to my craving for something sweet. After I Yelped my options I laced up my shoes and headed out just over a mile to this little gem of a bakery. Well, first I called to find out what time they closed. Marion answered the phone and said, "in about 12 minutes but we'll be here for hours -- I'll leave the door open for ya!" Sure enough the door was open and Marion met me from behind the counter with a smile. I asked for her recommendation (everything looked seriously good) so she started pointing out her favorites. I finally decided on a chocolate-covered brownie and a caramel apple cupcake. But she was putting together a box! "Oh, no, Marion!" I said. "I just need something sweet for tonight!" "But you have to try this one and one of these! And they're our treat since you walked all this way!" Bit by gloriously sweet bit she filled up that bakery box. I had no hope of getting out of there with less than 10 lbs of sugary goodness once I divulged that I was an airline pilot on a 5-day trip -- she packed even more goodies into the box! "Share them with your crew!" she said. And then she came out from behind the counter to give me a genuine grandmotherly hug "since I'd been away from my own family for so long". I know these Wisconsinites are some of the friendliest folks on the planet, but Marion gets a gold star. As I was slowly backing out of the shoppe another customer entered. She took one look at me and my laden-down arms and said, "Oh, what did she get you addicted to this time? A long time ago I came in for one cupcake and I've been coming back weekly for years, every time she sends me home with something equally addicting!" I was nearly at the door when she told me that I really should take that package of about 2 dozen cookies "because they're ugly and no one will buy them anyway and you can share them with your crew". Unbelievable. Surely they don't make any money if they give all their yummies away....? Some of the best home-baked goodies I've ever eaten, and far and away the most sincere, loving customer service I've ever received. Thank you, Marion. The worst customer service! We have tried this bakery several times over the years because it is close to our house and easy to get to. Unfortunately they are not equipped to handle more than one person at a time. On one particular incident we ordered a selection of bakery and the young girl behind the counter gave us all of the wrong items. Another time we waited in the lobby for almost 20 minutes because the lady at the counter was in Hot conversation with a friend and did not wait on anyone else. Another time we stopped in quick for a few items only to get them home and find out they were extremely dry and did not taste fresh so we ended up throwing them out because we both work for a living in do not have time to drive back bakery. Recently we stopped in to try it again -hoping things were better and the person behind the counter kept talking to people in the back room- ignoring everyone else in the lobby including myself and 4 other guests. We understand this is a mom and pop store and that's one of the reasons we support it and try to go back... unfortunately they do not understand customer service tactics which include waiting on clients in a quick and timely fashion. They should have at least one person on the register and one other person just bagging the goods. On busy days they should have at least 3 people out front. Sorry but there are so many other places in the Fox cities to go for bakery including all of the local grocery stores. We do not plan on going back to Simple Simon! GOOD LUCK! read more
