I had the lamb shawarma and my boyfriend had the lamb shawarma plate. Two stars for decent food, but lost three stars for poor delivery, cold food, wilted lettuce, and very small dolmas. The delivery man pulled out our food sideways from his back pack where it was stored, and all of the food was completely lopsided and mixed around in the containers. The food was cold and we had to reheat, and the dolmas were nothing to write home about. We will not be ordering again. Perhaps there delivery just isn't that good? I just got the veggie plate and it was amazing! Everything tasted bright and fresh, and the portion was generous! I almost always have immediate buyers remorse when I order delivery but not this time! Wow it was so good! I got an extra side of tabbouleh and I'm so glad I did bc that was my favorite part of the meal! Who knew parsley could taste so good?! My partner got some kind of chicken wrap and also loved it. Delicious, fresh, and affordable. I love this place and am so glad to have them in the neighborhood. Our favorites are the veggie combo plate and the Oasis burger. The staff is also exceptional-- when we were eating there recently, a seemingly homeless and mentally ill man was pacing by the storefront and bothering some of the patrons sitting outside. When the staff noticed, they approached the man, gave him a bit of free food, and requested that he sit outside peacefully. A lot of folks might have called the police or otherwise escalated the situation, but their approach was effective and kind. Very impressive. read more

My friends: This is some legit good food, right here. I went in on a Friday night, just a hair before closing time, and the owners were going to let us hang out and eat inside even as they were closing down for the day - that's great hospitality. Since it was close to quittin' time, they were out of the beef and lamb, so I ordered the chicken kebab plate, and the lady got the falafel plate (to go, since we didn't want to be "those people" who insist on eating somewhere well after closing time). We got home, tore into our boxes, took a bite, and looked at each other like: "dis bish good!" Verdict: -Better than Holy Land -Large portions -Packed with flavor -Cool owners who hooked us up with extra falafels -The food takes longer to prepare than it does at McDonald's, but really, who gives a fuck? Just don't come here - or, for that matter - don't go anywhere in a hurry. That's just stupid. This will be our go-to spot for when we crave something less conventional (to us westerners). I had some expectations for Oasis Grill as every time I walked by on Grand, I saw it one step closer to being completed, and so I could try this new business. I finally had time after it opened to visit with two friends to finally give it a try. I was thoroughly disappointed. FOOD: We ordered among the three of us a beef/lamb schwarma plate and sandwich, chicken sandwich, a hummus plate, and samosas. The ratio of pita to meat was really off because I had way more pita than meat, so it dried out my mouth a bit. The chicken was okay, but not as flavorful, and frankly, was a little dry. Onto the pita plate, which was a bit of a disappointment too. I was hoping the falafels would have been good, but they were a) not warm and b) very tough/bland. It was probably a falafel that was leftover or something because it was just really bad. The pita and hummus were alright, but again, nothing spectacular. One other thing was that the olives aren't pitted, so I was REALLY surprised to find a seed in there. So be careful folks! SERVICE: I suppose this is where I was a bit surprised, maybe it was the time that we came in on a Saturday, but the food that came out was wrong. We didn't make a fuss to the restaurant owners, but we ended up getting baklava (a good surprise instead of samosas). I also found the time to bring the food out to take a while, which was surprising for the quality of food that we received. In my opinion, I have had better experiences of this type of Middle Eastern cuisine in other places in the Bay Area, and pales to compare to my experiences in the Middle East or even Europe. I am so happy that this place moved in down the street from my office. I was eating at Los Cantaros way too often, so it's nice to have another option. And a potentially healthy one at that! It's a small little cafe with a deli counter, maybe 10 tables - you can eat in or take out. They have always been very friendly with me, even before they opened the restaurant, since I started to get impatient for them to open and started asking questions. After being there a few times, they know me now and are even nicer to me. Love that personal touch! I've ordered 4 different items on the menu - chicken shawarma sandwich, lamb and beef shawarma sandwich, falafel sandwich, and the veggie combo plate. All have been excellent. The meat is good quality, not gristly, grilled thoroughly but not dry and still tender. Good sauces and dips. The hummus is good but not the best I've ever had, but the baba ganoush is out of this world - spicy, tangy, and different from any I've had anywhere else. Can take 10 minutes for your order to come up when they're busy (they were immediately slammed since they opened, apparently I'm not the only person who was impatient for them to open!), and is a little on the pricy side ($10 for a sandwich with no sides), but I can't complain too much because it's so tasty and convenient. read more

Stopped by to look at the menu when they invited me in to try their falafel - DELICIOUS. That sold me on this place! I ordered the hummus plate with two falafels on the side. Sometimes you try out a new place and have to immediately post a review about it on yelp. Might be something good, might be something bad. I call it the Yelp Effect. Maybe you just want to remember that first experience; maybe you just have to let the world that you've found something that needs to be recognized-- even if you're the 400th fan. Oasis Grill had the Yelp Effect on me. With so many new, great restaurants in Uptown, Merritt, ect, it's impossible to keep up. So when one stands out like this, I have to get it down. I love Mediterranean/Persian food. Especially street food. So if you don't know what a shawerma or falafel is -- google is your friend. Check Wikipedia or something. Better yet, just go and try one. It's a Persian burrito to make it simple. There are a TON of places like this in the Bay Area. So I tried a lamb shawerma sandwich, spicy. Just like burritos there are many different recipes and ratios of ingredients that make or break a sandwich. The OG shawerma consists of roast lamb off the spit (look it up), hummus, tahini sauce, and he typical vegetables -- tomatoes, cucumbers, ect. The OG shawerma has a ratio that's high in meat, low in everything else. I'm going to try to get a little more tahini and hummus next time (maybe just on the side ), but it didn't matter in the moment. The lamb was so flavorful, moist and roasted -- that's all it really took to get me hooked. Some will definitely say its 'too greasy', ect.To me that means moist ad cooked correctly, Lamb IS fatty. If it isn't dripping a bit, it's dried out. The OG shawerma is 90% lamb. You want to plow through it like a pile of the best slow smoked barbecue platter you can think of. Except it's conveniently rolled up in lavash so you can keep your hands relatively untouched. I did hit mine with Cholula garlic hot sauce because with shawerma, the spicier the better. The rest of the Oasis Grill offerings looked fairly typical, but based on the quality of the lamb, I'm ready to try it all. I'm sure the 'plate style' will be great, maybe even better because it comes with plenty of tasty extras. I also got a little cream covered lemon tart that was also great. I can't wait to try the falafel, chicken shawerma, and the rest. These guys have it going on. They aren't a fancy bistro, alehouse, chophouse, 'popup restaurant' (all of which have their merits) that are slowly being overpriced from the city, This is just good old fashioned comfort food and I'm happy I don't need an iPhone app with GSP to track it down, read more

Lame. We ordered the lamb plate that's got rice and salad and they gave us the lamb hummus plate with no salad. I ordered and was charged for $4.99 worth of extra tzatziki and received none. The dolmas were identical to the greasy ones you get from a can. The fries were nothing like the ones in the pictures and were unsalted and the thick chalky kind you get from a frozen bag in a cafeteria. They were undercooked and cold in the middle. If I had known this is what I was gonna get, I would have skipped going here and gotten food at McDonald's for a quarter of the price. read more

I was riding my bicycle around Oakland yesterday and became quickly famished; my regular stops were closed and so while biking around i saw Oasis Kitchen and decided to check this place out as it looked quick; boy am i glad i did, this place is fantastic in every way possible! The restaurant is run by Turks and Algerians and you can taste the authenticity of the food. As a Persian myself I know what great middle eastern food is and this is great middle eastern food. I ordered the veggie plate and while wary if it was going to be filling, I figured I could eat later if need be; it was not needed though. The portion sizes of the veggie plate were ample and varied; the fresh baked bread they gave was amazing! some of the best bread i have eaten.. and they had delicious desserts to boot! They have a few tables outside on Grand Ave and a few inside too. I did not try their lamb or beef, maybe next time, but if you are a vegetarian, I would HIGHLY recommend the veggie plate; its one of the cheaper items on the menu at $8.99 but dont let that fool you, you will be full and satisified. I will absolutely be coming back and telling all my friends to come here too. I have only a handful of 5 star ratings but these folks have earned every bit of that rating! read more

We ate here just once and don't plan to return. The service was soooo sloooow! We waited over 45 minutes to get our food. And it wasn't very complicated either -- kabob with rice and grilled veggies. The food was tasty enough, but definitely not worth the long wait and poor service. The staff spoke very limited English and it was hard to understand if there was some problem with our order. It seems to have a die-hard set of customers though. So perhaps there is something that we missed. In any case, it's going to take a lot of prodding to get me back in there as it was chaotic, slow and it didn't look all that clean, to be honest. read more

They have cases full of dessert, pastries, and sides in addition to their menu items. Menu has wraps, sandwichws and plates, ranging from 7-13. Ordered: Falafel Wrap-spicy $7 Can't beat it. It was hefty in size...like a taller skinnier version of a Chipotle burrito. Everything inside the wrap was fresh and delicious. I like that they gave an option of spicy or not....anything spicy is a bonus! The lamb on roast looked SO good. It looked moist and fresh...unlike some places where it's so dry and burnt.
