The food was very good. I ordered jumbo fried shrimp. Shrimp were lightly battered, and frankly could have benefited from a couple notches of spicier batter. Nonetheless, the meal was good. A restaurant that has been successful for quite some time. The variety of dishes is large and portions plentiful. There is an oyster bar that will steam them up for you or table service where u can order them by the dozen or half dozen. The fried seafood is lightly breaded Calabash style. Visiting from Maryland, I was told to definitely check Oasis out and if I was brave enough; take the Funky Monkey Challenge. The 3 of us ordered a pound of steamed shrimp; half spicy (old bay) and half Cajun, as well as steamed cherry stone clams. The appetizers did not disappoint and the Long Island (which I am always very critical of) was exceptionally good! For my dinner I ordered the Scallop Platter, broiled with a side of rice pilaf and asparagus. It was all delicious! The Funky Monkey challenge which consists of a saltine cracker topped with a raw oyster, jalapeño slice, horse radish, hot sauce and A TON of pepper (you have to eat 3) wasn't exactly appetizing BUT a fun challenge that earned me some bragging rights and a free t-shirt. I will definitely be back when I visit North Carolina again. Our waitress Ashleigh Birch was wonderful, great service and great personality. read more

This place has gone downhill since the remodel! Waitress was more concerned with taking selfies instead of checking on tables, scallops were soggy and tasted like they were from the microwave, fried fish was so greasy it was all that I could taste when tried to eat it! There aren't many places to choose from in Clinton to eat but definitely rather travel out of town instead of eating here again!!! read more

Great Southern Oyster Bar and Restaurant. Lots of fresh seafood. Has a casual oyster bar and a litle more dressed up dining room. Speciality is the Funky Monkey. It's a raw oyster on cracker with a healthy dollop of hot horseradish, jalapeno pepper, hot sauce and black pepper. Eat three and get a free tee shirt. It is a great shirt and the oyster isn't that hot. You can order your seafood broiled, blackened, fried or steamed. Has a beach feel minus the sand. Reasonable priced for seafood. read more

Generally unimpressed but good for steamed seafood. Food: The food is decent. My husband and I have been here a few times. We've gotten some really good stuff, and some just okay stuff. The porkchop gets decent reviews, but the steak was awful. The steamed seafood is good, and I've enjoyed the raw oysters. Service: We have had some okay servers and some that are rather neglectful. When they are really busy--it's too much for the staff. I am always extremely unimpressed with the older guy that works the host stand. Last time he didn't even greet us. He took two menus, led us to a table, flopped the menus on the table and walked away with not as much as a smile or hello. It wasn't even busy at the time. Rude. Décor/Atmosphere: They try hard to make it beachy-classy, but it isn't well executed for the most part, so there is just awkward tropical crap on the wall. I've sat at more than one sticky table. Extra: We go back because the pickings are slim in this area and I like steamed seafood--a lot. It probably is among the nicer establishments in Clinton, and since they don't have much competition, they get away with mediocre. read more

I've found this place to be hit and miss, but when it's good, it's good enough for me to forget the times it's not. Steamed shellfish and raw oysters are always good. Usually my husband raves about the pork chop, except when he doesn't--it's not consistent. The service really varies. I've had some outstanding service, and some really bad servers. I ordered steak, fried okra and sweet potato tonight with Pepsi to drink. My steak had to be sent back twice.. they couldn't get it right. So I ate okra first.. then sweet potato.. and finely my steak.. I ask our waitress if the manager would discount my bill due to my steak being sent back twice. She went to talk to the manager. When she returned.. she said the manager would only take off my Pepsi $2.29. The manager never came out to apologize or speak to me. I'd like to give The Oasis a higher rating, but I just can't quite do it. I would summarize this restaurant as tremendously average. One of the reasons for my mediocre review is that the staff was not overly friendly. Hey, I'm not royalty, but at least act like you are happy I chose to come to your establishment. The food was ok. I think that the drinks are pretty good here (we had our fair share of lemon drop shots and martinis)...but there aren't as many vegetarian options as I would like. The crowd is a mix of locals that are trying to find a place to go at night, which is great, because it means that it's like a reunion every weekend. read more

I went to Oasis for the first time when a colleague suggested it to me. I'm from the coast, and I love seafood; so I thought why not? First off, the atmosphere feels cheap and over-the-top. They seem to try and convince you that you're at the beach, but you're quickly reminded that you're not. There's was relatively no wait and we received a table within 30 seconds of entering the door. We were seated near the entrance in a booth. The hostess came off as rude and sharp, answering questions in short replies and rolling her eyes. Already, it's bad. The waitress we had was not the friendliest person, but she wasn't entirely rude like the hostess. She made sure she wiped the table down and gave us a basket full of hush puppies as an appetizer. The hush puppies were good and a little dry, but they usually are. I liked them and ate my fair share. I ordered a split plate of fried shrimp and broiled oysters with sides of cole slaw and french fries. Now, again, I've eaten my fair share of seafood in my time at living near the coast; so I expected quality. The service takes the normal time, and our food arrives. First impression, was how incredibly small the portions were. I received only four oysters and five shrimp. I know that seafood is somewhat expensive, but first glimpse at the size and consistency of the shrimp and oysters and they were obviously bagged and prefrozen. Oysters should be varying sizes, but all four were exactly the same size and shape; very odd. The shrimp was also small, soggy, and the breading was filled with grease; they had been dropped before the oil was hot. The fries were warm, but they had a very bland taste; which they tried to counteract with seasoning -- it didn't work. The cole slaw consisted mostly of mayonnaise and it was very bitter. Now, after sharing the contents and my opinion of the meal I want to further explain my 1 star rating. For $23 (just one plate and a water) I expected better quality of food and better service. The service was equivalent to a fast food restaurant, and the food quality was some of the poorest I have ever had. I was not satisfied nor will I be returning. There are other businesses in Clinton that try harder than Oasis, taste better than Oasis, has better service than Oasis, and costs about a third of the price. Highly disappointed in what some call the best seafood place in Clinton. No thanks! read more

We ate here when visiting Clinton in August. We were on the restaurant side. First, let me say the food was very good. I had oysters for an appetizer and was surprised to find they were battered and fried, however, the fresh oyster taste came through clearly. Then I ordered one of their seafood platters. Again, everything is fried, but it was very tasty. We don't get shellfish that tastes like this in Ohio, so it was a treat. Now for the negatives -- the place didn't seem quite clean enough to suit me. Our table was a little sticky. The waitress was lovely and competent but my guest and I were shocked to see only white people in the hostessing and wait staff jobs, but black people doing the bus boy work (plus someone from Clinton later told me they are the cooks too). This may be a regular feature of the south, but I found it unsettling. Next time, I think I'll hit the bar side and have some of those steamed or fresh oysters. I hope they have a person of color working as wait staff or bartending! read more
