Came here for my bachelorette party. Come to find out, we were one of four bachelorette parties there that night! Portland is turning into the new Nashville. Anyways, this place is your typical dance club with the added perk of having two dance floors. The one downstairs is just strange, as it involves a live band just drumming along loudly to backing music. There were also people playing beer pong and people sitting by the bar. Upstairs is a more traditional club atmosphere, with a large dance floor and a DJ spinning Top 40 music. There's even a projector with classic Mario Kart upstairs. We had a generally good time upstairs for the few hours we were there. The DJ was decent, the music was loud without being deafening, and there was a good crowd. There were a couple of creepers making the night weird, but I guess that's par for the course in Portland. We got a few buckets of whatever their house fruity drink was, and it was good, though pretty light on the alcohol. The bathrooms are tiny (only a few stalls), and the wait was about 10-15 minutes each time we had to go. Not good. And finally, my friend's coat got stolen in the coatroom, so don't bring a coat you can't afford to lose on a cold winter's night. Overall, it was a decent night out minus the stolen coat. read more

this place is awful. Females are NOT safe here. My boyfriends sister got shoved by a bouncer because she didnt realize there was a line to get up the stairs. When my boyfriend went to see what the issue was the bouncer immediately starts hitting him. At least 3 more bouncers hop in and start jumping my boyfriend. One of them started smashing their flashlight on his head. I thought they were going to kill him. His sisters tried stopping the bouncers and the bouncers HIT his sisters. They pushed his little sister out the door so hard that she went flying to her knees. Then one of the bouncers came running out yelling "im going to go fuck that bitch up"...talking about beating a woman.... Honestly this place has the potential to be cool on a holiday weekend but more often than not it is dead because everyone goes to Henry's or Bonfire. The drink selection isn't excellent but I enjoy the upstairs dance room and comparatively the DJ is better than at the other two spots for dance music. Let me start by saying I've met plenty of bats in my day--at zoos, in caves, even one that flew through my garage. But nothing prepared me for the absolute attitude of this winged menace. First off, it stared at me. Unblinking. Judging. Like I had just insulted its ancestors. Then, as I tried to gently guide it out of my attic (with a broom and the soft voice of reason), it screeched at me like I owed it money. It didn't flap away--it lunged. I was at the bar and I saw a girl go upstairs, she must not have realized there was a line and a boy bouncer shoved her down the stairs, then a friend of hers went to go help her and the bouncers started beating on him with a flash light then two other girls tried to help this guy and then the bouncers started beating on these girls. There was blood all over the guy when they left. I hope they press charges on these bouncers at Oasis, because I am a witness and I will vouch for them. QUEERS BEWARE! Oasis is actively descriminating against folks not fitting into "traditional binary norms". We were kicked out because my partner (f) was accused of looking to masculine to use the women's room. Music was good, upstairs was weird but downstairs had a good vibe...until out of no where 2 bouncers (F+M) forcibly removed my wife. They approached us on the dancefloor and screamed in our faces to "get out right now!" When asked "why? Is everything alright? Is there a problem?" They refused to answer but grabbed my wife and our friend by the arms and started pushing/dragging them to the exit. Once outside the female bouncer said that women complained about her "making them feel uncomfortable in the bathroom". My female wife was kicked out of this establishment for using the women's room. Not that it should matter in 2025 and with Portland being the progressive city that it is but my wife was born female and identified as such. Despite any of that the manner in which she and the rest of our party were treated was utterly reprehensible! is Oasis has a shred of dignity it should, at the very least fire the woman who so poorly handled the situation. She had zero de-escalation skills. She approached us as if we were aggressive drunks, engaged in a bar fight. Which could not have been farther from the case. Every other establishment in Portland has been so welcoming and provided a clear sense of safety but this place was...idk, looking for a fight? I'm not sure if it was just this one woman and then the staff just "backing up their own" or if it's the policy of Oasis to respond as aggressively as possible to "a nonbinary looking person in the bathroom". I was in town for a few days. Pearl had officially closed. I read that Oasis was closing permanently soon. So! I definitely wanted to check out Oasis before it was gone for good. Oasis was my favorite party spot when I lived in Portland! Well - they have a bouncer / stupidity issue. Which might be contributing to the fact they are closing? There was no line. None. No one was going into the club. Mind you this was around midnight. So I walked up to the door. One of the bouncers said I had to walk AROUND the stanchion in order to approach the door. Again, no one was in line. I didn't cut anyone. I walked in front of the stanchion (instead of around) and stood in front of the other bouncer with my ID ready. Well - this pissed off the bouncer. I mean it was ridiculous / comical how upset the bouncer got. He said "Because you can't follow simple instructions we don't want you in the club". Again, no one and I mean no one was in line. So because I didn't "follow instructions" of walking the long way AROUND the stanchion- the bouncer got pissed?? Lol I laughed. I couldn't help but laugh. The bouncer was so upset. My efficiency to get to the door instead of walking around a stanchion pissed him off? Lol Who hired these guys? Is this the only amount of control they are able to exert in their lives? I didn't even argue. I laughed and walked away. Seriously - you can't make sense of stupid. Oasis is closing and I hope the new owners hire better bouncers. If this is the stupidity the club is having at the doors then I understand why the club is losing business. If I could I would do 0 stars. The employees have a chip on their shoulder. I walked in after having 1 drink during the night in another establishment and they would not serve me because they believed I was drunk due to my normal speech patterns. Upon trying to explain I am not too intoxicated and that I have only had 1 drink that night (a 5% abv beer) I was kicked out for respectfully asking why I was cut off. By far the worst establishment on wharf street and deserves to be shut down for I have heard of this problem persisting. read more

The only good thing about this bar is a member of their security staff, Jose. He was absolutely incredible, and made my friends and I feel safe. Jose's incredible service and chivalry aside, we will never go back to Oasis. One of the male bartenders sexually assaulted one of the girls in our group; completely out of nowhere, unprompted, and most certainly uninvited. After he did so, another male bartender at the downstairs bar said WE had to leave the bar--obviously concerned there would be repercussions. We contacted the Portland P.D. whose dispatcher said they often receive similar complaints about girls being assaulted at Oasis. Yet it does not appear that anything is being done about it. Me and my boyfriend went to Portland , Maine for my birthday and ended up in Oasis after dinner in Old Port. We were attracted by the live band show in the patio / Neon lights glittering from the second floor window. Cover was $5 for guys, fair, so we went in. There were three zones basically, the patio with live band playing super old school American songs and an indoor Arcade area near the bar. We got the Rum Bucket and it tastes like it has 0% alcohol in it. We went up for some dancing yet the DJ was so bad, transition was bad between songs, bad choice of songs. We had fun at oasis for a bachelorette for a couple hours but it did go south very quickly. In the upstairs dance area, there is a small elevated ledge for more dancing. We all went up there - and were joined by our friend Jeff. A "bouncer" named Brett kicked him off because "no men are allowed on the ledge." And we get that for creepy men - keep them away, please - but not Jeff. Brett used his ounce of power in this world to discriminate against our friend in particular - he is gay - while letting other very old and creepy men stay up there. When we asked to see the manager (Sam), she was understanding but was honest that there wasn't much she could do in that moment. I didn't plan to end my bachelorette in tears but it's impossible when you see your friend singled out and treated like trash. Brett is a bigot and we would love for him to stop using "company policies" to target people he has trouble relating to. Change your policy and wipe the smug smile off Brett's face. My friends and I already had an issue last year with a bouncer (sadly we don't have his name) calling one my friends a c*nt, which is COMPLETELY unacceptable. Today I'm writing about another bouncer, Juan. As soon as my friends and I got there our one friend, Joe, went to use your filthy men's room upstairs and went into the stall, the toilet was clogged (repulsive in of itself) and after he carefully did his business, was buttoning his pants with his back against the door because the lock is broken. At this point, Juan, burst through the stall door which shoved my friend into the wall and demanded to see his hands and asked if he was doing drugs. Joe was of course not doing said "drugs" (he is a nurse for Christ's sake). Juan, the bouncer, then stormed out and Joe followed to simply and calmly ask Juan to apologize for the shoving of the door, and power hungry Juan immediately decides to kick him out, which I guess is his prerogative. Not letting Joe alert his friends and then kicking out the friends who came over to ask what was happing and pushing Joe out the door, he ended our night night and patronage at Oasis. Picture this: you're a college kid visiting portland Maine, for a quick finals week getaway. You're searching throughout the "bustling nightlife" scene for a nice bar / club. You sift through whart street, and stumble across a bar with probably 3 people in it. You figure "let's give this struggling club some business" and decide to get in the line (of 1 person). Drunk & eager to spend money, I was excited to go into Portland's most "bussin" bar. However, I was denied entry for my "sweatpants". Since when does a bum bar in nowhere Maine have a dress code? I have been to quite a few bars across the country, and this place is without a doubt the worst establishment I have ever set foot in. Horribly rude service from the doorman, to the bartender, and the jock bouncers looking for any excuse to rough someone up. I'm not sure how they haven't closed due to a lawsuit yet after the stories I've heard. When I visited, the patio had the lovely aroma of Porta Potty stench... As in that was actually the accommodation, a Porta Potty on the patio. Not sure if they were re-doing some plumbing or if that's just the norm for the patio, either way it was nasty. Pieces of dirty toilet paper were strewn about the ground of the patio, every surface was sticky. A dirty bar is one thing, but there has to be a redeeming quality. Either good service, music, games that aren't broken or slime coated, cheap prices, you know one of the above at least. This place has nothing going for it and is quite literally a cesspool. Oasis survives off of its prime location alone. If you're reading a review of this place to begin with, you're above going here, unless perhaps you are a masochist and enjoy torturing yourself, in which case look no further. You might even be lucky enough to catch hands from the bouncers from what I have witnessed. (yes this is a retroactive review, it was a draft I made and forgot about, slightly a rant, but after viewing some recent reviews and seeing nothing has changed, they deserve every bad mark that can come their way.) read more

Tried to get in here with a friend who is also biracial. Didn't figure that would be a problem in Portland, ME in 2020. Bouncer (or at least his friend who was helping to secure the door) yelled at us "Back of the line! Back of the bus!" (there was one person on "line"...). Wasn't sure if we heard right, but after seeing many other reviews on here to this extent, its obvious we did. Our government should investigate this place. With this type of treatment to non-white customers, I'm sure "Oasis" is running afoul of laws. If you go into Oasis knowing what to expect, it's one of, if not the best summer bar in Portland. This is not a haven for craft beer and small plates. It's not classy and doesn't pretend to be. It's simply really fun and inexpensive with great entertainment and one of the larger outdoor patios in the city. In the winter the downstairs is a smaller chill bar and the upstairs becomes a nightclub. It's a younger crowd and is ok, but nothing special. In summer though the place shines. The outdoor patio is probably the second biggest after Porthole and is a blast for all ages. There's giant Jenga (think a Jenga game that builds to 6 feet tall), giant Connect Four, giant Beer Pong (played with dodge balls and buckets), a full outdoor bar, beer stations and many picnic tables. The patio front hosts some of the best cover bands and DJs that the city has to offer. The crowd is lively, energetic and mostly avoids the trouble that can plague 51 Wharf and Pearl (not Taphouse). I often hate those two nightclubs but love Oasis. The service is top notch. There's rarely a wait for a drink even with the usually packed crowds, and the bartenders are extremely friendly. There can be a wait to get into Oasis though on beautiful summer nights, and you will see many bachelor/bachelorette parties. Be prepared to do the crazy stunts on their lists. Finally, the prices! In a world of $8 beers and $13 mixed drinks around Portland, this is a huge relief. You can get a 24 ounce PBR in a paper bag, which is really fun, for less than $5. I have yet to order a mixed drink over $8. It's refreshing to see a bar still exist that leaves you feeling (perhaps too) good for less than $20. So it's not upscale. You can leave the expensive dress shirts and shoes behind. Oasis is just a good time with a boisterous crowd and one of the larger outdoor sections around. I do recommend leaving before closing (1 am) though. The spill out from all of the bars onto Wharf Street isn't always pretty. read more

Oh man, Oasis. This is where you'll end up after you've had one too many cocktails and decide you want to go dancing. Some dancing may be had here but mostly it will turn into a creep fest faster than you expect. I've experienced Oasis sober and drunk, and obviously it's way more tolerable with the latter. Oasis is only fun, in my opinion, if you're there 3 or 4 drinks in (at least for me - some of you may have higher tolerances which I guess I applaud you for but your liver probably doesn't) and it's about 20-30 min. until last call and you're dancing your heart out with some guy friends in tow - making sure the creepers don't get too close. They do have sort of min-beach pail rum drinks which takes me back to bar hopping on Boylston St. in Boston, but if you're sober and it's not dark enough all I want to do is finish my drink and leave. If you're thinking about going to Oasis - should you go? Sure, yes - go! But please be careful ladies as I've heard some horror stories with men lurking in packs during closing time trying to creep on the drunkest women. Just close your eyes and, unforgivingly picture a dance club in Portland ME and you'll get Oasis, in all it's glory. read more

Oasis employs an over zealous bouncer who needs to relax a bit. I gave a little pushback when my boyfriend was asked to leave (he wasn't violent or aggressive, just one too many) so I was also asked to leave as well. This is warranted and fair. I get my things, say goodbye to our large group of friends and we go. Next thing I know, an Oasis staff member follows me across the road and takes my photo saying it's going to be posted somewhere. What? No. I can see if we were violent in some way and repeat offenders but we're tourist who had one too many. I don't like it and it felt way too invasive. Oasis sits in an alley among several bars and each time we walked past, the same bouncer would antagonize me and make rude comments. Pretty invasive and unnecessary and only appropriate in extreme cases. Bad for business! read more

After the disappointment that was 51 wharf, my friend and I walked across to Oasis. Upstairs is their dance club. When we first arrived 10-10.30p, there were only 3 girls up there. Once we wandered outside for a bit, everyone started coming (even a bachelorette party!) So back in we went. The DJ was on fire! From new hits (think fancy and talk dirty to me) to MJ throwbacks, there was something to keep everyone moving. We even saw a an older gentleman dancing with the bride to be and dropping to his knees for an air guitar solo! The only complaint I have is that the second floor gets crowded quick, so it's rather warm. Definitely drink lots of water before you go! This club is cesspool that does not care for their customers at all. There was a cover charge for only select people and then inside the bartenders are rude. Drinks are mostly syrup. When I went to get a round of drinks the boy bartender upstairs accused me of not tipping (which I did), refused to sell me drinks because of that, and then threw the money I gave him at me and told me I was banned from the establishment. Drove 3 hours to visit my friend in Portland while home on school break. I don't drink because I have stomach issues so I'm usually the DD but that's fine. We went out to Oasis on a somewhat busy Saturday night but got there early before any lines. Before taking more than 10 steps into the bar, they escorted me out for being "too drunk" mind you I literally cannot drink without throwing up and was acting completely normal. Upon telling them my situation they replied with "even if you're not drunk we don't want you in here tonight" and gave no further explanation. Oasis is a venue that caters to dancing, drinks, and a good time. The drinks are reasonably priced and they have connect four boards on the wall, they normally have beer (water) pong, cornhole, and upstairs that have a Nintendo 64 game that you can play that is projected on the wall. Oasis has two bars, one downstairs and one upstairs. There is also a space where you can go outside and there are some picnic tables. Overall, Oasis provides for a fun experience, however, come 11pm there are a lot of people and it can get crowded. read more
