This review will be in two parts. And yes, this place is still cash only... Had lunch here to start a getaway weekend, and it was so in my wheelhouse. It wasn't too busy, and we could engage with the locals who were there at the time, etc. Nice place. Marveled at our bartender/cook (Mike) who got called in at the last minute and run the lunch crowd, not stop moving for the entire hour and half we were there. He's ten years older than me, and looks ten years younger than me. Gimme a double-shot of that DNA, please. Enjoyed their vaunted Double Cheeseburger, and it was satisfying. It wasn't 'hand-pressed,' as may have been the case in years past, but it was still a solid sender for beef flavor, and the Wifey's choice of Steakettes were far more tender than we expected. Darned good bar lunch. Cut to later in evening. We got 86'd from the tribe casino, for nothing other than pissing off the bar manager by being happy people. The younger crew we were chatting with there wanted to keep the fires burning--since we all were cut off--so we suggested Oasis. Holy crap, it was packed. If you are of middle age, like myself, and you would like to party like it's 1999, this is a place to hit up in this small town. We walked in and I was bemusing, 'Oh man, here we go.' The piped in music was horrible, but it didn't matter. Everyone was laughin', movin', enjoyin' the moment. Small towns bars are fun. Rather unique and diverse crowd. 5 star for the quality of the food. 5 stars for the dive aesthetic. 5 stars for the take no ____ attitude. I called and asked "how late are you open?" And the response on the other end is "until it dies out...or about midnight." I love places that have approximate closing times. I knew this was our place. My husband is a burger snob. I love him, he's incredible. So he knows burgers. He grew up on a farm, knows burgers. Okay, and here we are, in the little map dot that is Chewelah, hungrier than a horse on a prairie, and here we are, noshing on some sub $10 burgers that $20 Seattle burgers aspire to be in terms of quality and flavor. Also, if you're passing through, please pickup the newspaper. I had an absolute laugh reading about black market maple syrup. Expecting a cocktail menu? Expect to be laughed out of this place. This is a liquor + mixer kinda place. Also they have blue moon. To be fair this review is probably all over the place because I've been here for 3 rounds and there is no skimping on the pours, okay. And I'm sitting under a flickering yellow light bulb that is either disorienting or super quaint depending on where you are in your booze cruising. What a dream of a place. Stay open always Oasis. This is definitely a locals bar. When walking in with our motorcycle gear there was a lot of staring. All good though as it seemed like a nice crowd. We asked the waitress/bartender/cook what was good and she said the cheeseburger. Cheeseburgers around the table then and make mine a double. We also ordered a basket of fries and a soda. The Oasis looks like a dive bar on the outside and although the furnishings are old inside it was very clean. There are a handful of 4 seater tables, one long table with stools, and bar seating. There is a pool table, dart board, and juke box as well. The burgers and fries were delivered in short order and looked very good. The burger patty was nice and thick with a nice crust on the outside and juicy inside. It was covered with a perfectly sized sesame bun and the veggies (pickle, tomato, & onion) are already loaded on the burger. The cheese was perfectly melted over the patty. It was as good as it looked. The fries looked really good too but unfortunately we're not cooked quite long enough for me and were a bit soggy. Soda is purchase by the can for $1.50. We'll definitely be back for burgers in the future. read more

The Oasis certainly fits into the "dive bar" category but it is a good one. It is very clean. It makes me think of a cross between The Cheers bar and the bar Toby Keith sings about in "I Love this Bar" except it is not crowded and there is no band playing behind chicken wire fencing. You can't get Heineken here but the Bud is cold and on tap. The Oasis has the best burgers and fries for miles around. The prices are very reasonable. The bartender is friendly. If I could give this place six stars I would. Pros: Great Server/Cook/Bartender that is equal parts friendly and sarcastic They have Squirt if you don't drink alcohol! The burger is something that a Michelin rated restaurant would be proud to serve. The chicken strips are seasoned to perfection. The French dip is to die for. The fries are delicious. Dive bar that has good food, made on the spot. Service is lacking as they don't check back on your table to see if you need anything, you have to go up to the bar to ask for anything extra. Good food, lacking in interpersonal skills. May want to take a hospitality course. read more
