Avoiding mediocre meals while on vacation is a constant challenge. It's such a treat when you find a restaurant worthy of as many stars as you can give it. This was our fifth night in Priest Lake, and our dinner at Chimney Rock did not disappoint. The pre-meal bread, focaccia with a fig balsamic, was good enough to make a meal of. I had the rack of lamb. The sauce had just the right amount of huckleberry, a taste rather than hitting one over the head. The portion was perfect. Having leftovers while traveling always feels like a waste. My only negative was the service. Our wait person seemed distracted and unengaged. An ordered drink was never brought, and I'm reminding myself to double check that we weren't charged. The menu is full of incredible options for all types. I had the chicken fried Steak and it was one of the best I have ever had. My mom got the turkey sandwich (I finished the other half of it later) and it was outstanding. Decor was wry nice and welcoming and the service was world-class. Great beers on tap and everyone there seemed to really be enjoying themselves. I will definitely go back and try more of the menu. read more

This is a great little cafe, with indoor and outdoor seating for the summer. Really nicely taken care of. Clean, attractive with flowers decorating all over the outdoor large deck. Great food and great people. The inside is comfortable, clean, and nicely decorated. The lady who helped us was very nice and she was really gracious with our young daughter. Over the few weeks we were in the area, we had the burger, the grilled cheese, the French dip, and the huckleberry pancakes. Roadside cafe and bar near Priest Lake Idaho. They have a good size menu ranging burgers, tacos, burrito plate, enchiladas, wood fired pizza. I had a Mexican plate that came with rice and beans and chicken 3 burrito's. Every bite was good. My husband had pepperoni pizza. It looked good, but could have used a little more sauce. We went there for dinner last night. Was such a pleasant surprise. Smoked Salmon Chowder. Bread that was so light it just about melted on your mouth. Shrimp and halibut that was perfectly cooked. I came across this gem on Facebook and followed them for about six months, looking at the changing menu and the fantastic pictures they posted. I decided that I wanted to go for my 60th. They are located about an hour from Sandpoint, ID and the drive is beautiful. We were greeted by the chef outside the building as he was collecting herbs! The great service started the moment we stepped in. We were pleasantly surprised by the wine selection, so along with wine we started Burrata Caprese, talk about a generous sized appetizer! My wife ordered the Pan Seared Scallops, one of her all-time favorites - she claimed them "the best she ever had" and indeed they were prepared perfectly and served with an applewood smoked roasted red pepper sauce and a wonderful risotto. I selected the Pancetta Wrapped Prawns in a horsey cream sauce along with the same risotto. Jumbo was an understatement! Each item was prepared and seasoned perfectly. When the entrees were finished, the desserts in the case near the entry were calling and we couldn't settle on just one or two, but four! A Marionberry and white chocolate cake along with three types of cheesecakes, each delicious and unique. Chimney Rock Café provided us with the best food and dining experience we have found in north Idaho, hands down. It is casual dining at its best. It is rare that I give a 5/5 rating for a cafe but Chimney Rock Cafe rocks. Excellent staff. Libby waited our table quickly, efficiently and always with a smile - the kind of hospitality that brings customers back again and again and again. I ordered the enchiladas - the balance of spices and heat was remarkable. The garnishes were what you might only expect in an excellent upscale Mexican food restaurant. The eggs were poached to perfection. Husband ordered the special, steak and eggs, and his medium rare steak was grilled to perfection, a bit higher on the salt but we forgot to ask to go lightly so I don't hold that against them. The potatoes were delicious. Just the right amount of crispiness yet did not lose the potato flavor. You even get to prepare your own toast at your table! The coffee was superb! It is purchased locally. My husband always orders coffee but I wait until I have tasted his before ordering. We ended up switching my mocha for his coffee. He lived the sweetness of the mocha. Next time we will bring home a dessert. They looked wonderful and are showcased in a sparkling glass cupboard as you enter or leave! Probably should have today but I was so satiated I had no desire for more food at the time. This cafe has the perfect combination of excellent food, wonderful staff and fun decor!
