I am beyond grateful for David and the entire team for taking such incredible care of my girl. We first came to O.P. when I went from working remotely to a hybrid schedule and needed daycare three times a week. As a rescue, our dog was very fearful and had very little experience socializing with other dogs. We signed her up for the full training program, and David worked with me to make sure it fit into our schedule. He even met with us on weekends to answer questions, and we also got to work one-on-one with George, another one of their fabulous trainers. My dog absolutely loves going to "school" and has come such a long way in her obedience, confidence, and social skills. The difference in her has been incredible to watch. Every member of the staff is friendly and helpful, and they all greet our dog by name. You can tell the people at O.P. genuinely love dogs and know what they're doing. David, Howie and the rest of the crew have been absolute angels. I was struggling, having a 1 year old puppy and a 15.5 year old I'd had since college. So I did some research and came across "Obedience, Please!" I was thrilled! I had been joking that, in honor of Taylor swift, we were going to do a "Life of a Showdog" film once I got her trained. So to find out Howie trained dogs for show biz back in the day?! What a dream. Being part boarder collie, the training was much more difficult than I had previously been hoping for on my own. Despite (and maybe because of) her incredible intelligence, she also has a tremendous amount of energy, and love to give. With my chronic condition it was just becoming too much. She's been in the program for seven weeks, has taken a huge liking to David and behaves beautifully with him. I'm nervous to have her on my own but she just graduated today and I am so much more confident! She listens like spring and she talks like June, my sweet baby angel. I've been singing to her "she's a maniac" but swapped it out with "brainiac" all afternoon: lovin' it. You can either bring your own food or use theirs. I brought her blanket along so that she would have something familiar with her. While she was there, she got some training like sit, heal, and how to walk properly on a leash. I would definitely use them again. It's about $60/night and additional for training. Ina and Greta came to our home and helped us work with our 7 and 9 year old aussies who had become very reactive since the fire and our displacement. They have always been very excitable on leash and (especially when walking them both) pull more than walk. We worked with the Obedience Please Dog Training team to train our 10 lb toy poodle to be a service dog. We did both their in-kennel training and also at home training. At first we tried the in-kennel training and picking up our dog at the end of the day. David was very knowledgeable and kind. Sadly, our pup somehow sprained his back hip and we paused training for him to recoup. David did offer to take him to their vet but we decided to take him to his normal vet. That was a little scary but sounds like our pup may have just been playing too much or exercising more than before. He fully recovered in a couple of days. I'd probably recommend this type of training if your dog likes playing a lot with other dogs. Our dog is definitely a people dog. We then pivoted to their at home training program. This way he could stay home with us more. They easily transitioned his training and we absolutely loved working with Ina and Greta. Ina and Greta helped us so much to get our pup trained. We met at our home, local coffee shops and the Rose Bowl. This way he got more used to other situations, people and dogs. Our pup knows sit, stay, down, walking in heel, up from down, heel to walking position, stop, come and a couple of other great things. Both on leash and off. He listens so much to us and is now even more excited when I bring out the leash for a walk. We love the fact that he listens to us without treats because you won't always have treats. Our pup was learning so fast due to the great training team that we were able to combine some of their levels and we are set to for success in continuing our training. We just completed Level 2 of at home training with Obedience Please, and couldn't be happier with our dog's progress over time. We had worked with other trainers for our 1.5 yr old Golden Retriever (Rocky) before, but the progress had been inconsistent and always relied on treats. At the time we started with Obedience Please, walking Rocky felt like water skiing (being pulled the whole way), which was causing me injuries as he got bigger and stronger. Although he responded to treats, we weren't able to "fade" them as other trainers said we would. He really only listened or respected us if he knew we had a treat. In contrast, the entire focus of training at Obedience Please is "treat free." We also loved that our trainers (Ina and Greta, a fabulous mother/ daughter team) have come to our home for all the individualized sessions. The result is that they work with the whole family in Rocky's natural environment, so what we learn with them translates more naturally to our real daily lives. Greta and Ina have that perfect combo of being firm and direct, but also warm and caring. They've built a relationship not just with Rocky, but also with me, my husband and our teenage son. This means they understand how we each learn and what we need to succeed in our interactions with Rocky. The program is organized and follows a clear progression, such that not a moment of the time is wasted. Before we started it was hard to even imagine Rocky responding without treats, but over time he's responded so well that I almost forgot we used to need them. Walking him is now a pleasure (as opposed to a stressful source of injuries). And, his overall behavior in the home and around people/ other dogs is calmer and more focused. He's still a fun/ silly goofball, but now he listens when we need him to! The Obedience Please approach includes some mild "corrections" for unwanted behaviors but is really 95% focused on positive reinforcement through praise, clear verbal and nonverbal commands, consistency, and repetition. We were a bit hesitant about using corrections because we're all softies, but we quickly realized that they're gentle and rarely needed. Not only has Rocky's behavior improved, but we've all noticed that our bond (based on trust and love) has strengthened through the work. We've realized how much he loves training, learning, and all the attention/ praise that go with it. One thing to note: as with any training, the real subject of the training is *us*, the humans. The more receptive we've been to following Ina and Greta's suggestions, the better Rocky has done. It's also been really important to practice what they teach us between sessions. Which brings me to a final bonus of Obedience Please: between session reinforcement training options. In addition to the at home training, we occasionally bring Rocky to the Obedience Please location in S. Pasadena for day care or overnight boarding when we're traveling, etc. For a small additional fee, we always opt to have their staff do "reinforcement training" while he's there. The staff all use the same exact training system, so he really is getting an extra dose of reinforcement. We can see a turbo boost in his progress after he's been there. Plus, he loves his play time with the other dogs and gets excited the moment he realizes the car is headed their way! read more

During Covid we left town and was stuck in another state for awhile and they took care of our Sharpei. My frenchie and other Sharpei have also enjoyed going to their facilities. I just ... After working with multiple trainers and passing off their philosophy of a "citronella" method - it was unanimous that this kind of behavior modification is inhumane. As my Scottish trainer said, "It's shiate!" As a non-trainer, I can say that it defies even common sense. First of all, dogs sense of smell is off the charts compared to a humans. Over 200 million receptors kinda of-the-charts. If a dog has a reactive behavior issue AND YOU SPRAY IT WITH A HIGHLY STRONG SMELL, ASSUMING THE BEHAVIOR STOPS IN THE MOMENT - THE SMELL CONTINUES UNTIL YOU PICK THEM UP FROM THE FACILITY, BRING THEM HOME, AND BATHE THEM. Do they spray it then bath them? No. So its a continuous punishment. To the dog, no lesson is learned except your dog will pull away furiously when you try to come back to the place for daycare because they broke its trust and its traumatized. My other dogs NEVER did this with a trainer or daycare facility. I don't give a flying F$?k how many dog this person has "trained." The method is sh*+. Visit the place and see for yourself. It's easy to catch the vibe when you walk in and I just ignored it. read more

I want to preface this by saying that I am not here to put anyone who works at Obedience Please on the spot. I dislike writing reviews for small businesses as a single bad statement could ruin an entire reputation. However, what I saw when we picked our dog up crossed a line for me and my family and I feel that it would be unfair not to share our experience. We left our dog in the hands of this facility with the minimum expectation that she would be kept clean, safe, and hopefully happy. Not one of these standards were met. I must express my disappointment considering that everyone was so pleasant to talk to when we first arrived to drop our dog off. We called to check in on our dog during our vacation multiple times and were told she was doing great and was having fun playing with all the other dogs! This was exciting to my family and I considering that she hadn't been around many people or dogs due to COVID. In hindsight, we were blatantly lied to. When we picked her up, she was COVERED in citronella spray to the point she was sticky to the touch, she was covered in dirt, dried feces from days ago smudged down her legs, her nose had a gouge that continued to bleed once we got home, and she was so lethargic (and later we found out sick) that we had to take her to the vet the morning after at great expense. And when I say "COVERED in citronella spray" I mean she was outrageously coated in it. Do they not have any other method to get the dogs to behave? The methods of care in this facility are simply outdated. Not to mention, they don't require leptospirosis vaccinations, a potentially fatal bacterial infection that spreads through the blood. My dog was fully vaccinated and still managed to get sick in this filthy place. After speaking with the veterinarian, we were consoled by her agreed disbelief that anybody could ever neglect and mistreat a dog the way our dog was. Luckily, our dog is young and able to recover quickly. However, if she was a senior, I don't know that we would have been as lucky. I am quite frankly disgusted by this boarding facility and would hate for any other dog to have to go through what my girl did. I highly recommend, with a lack for better words, that you do not support this facility and spend your money at a place that will care for your dog the way they deserve to be cared for. I will never come back to this place. I am beyond disgusted and wouldn't wish this treatment onto anyone or any animal. read more

My dog 1.5 year old white shepherd named Margot went through the in-home training program and the before and after difference is amazing! Before training she was extremely reactive to any dogs and humans outside my home, was unmanageable on a leash in public. 2 weeks ago I saw one of the employee abuse the German Shepard and yelling are the dog and miss treating the dog. I went to the office and I addressed it. They denied the employee did that. I have it on Video camera. They have history of this happening. And that is the behavior of the employees. read more
