Ms Laurie Ann herself is super invested into the kids, music and studio, and on top of that she is amazingly flexible. Whenever we have to reschedule or shift schedules, she always makes it work for us. They offer recitals on a small scale, as well as the larger more formal option too. At the time we first came across Julie, my then 14-year-old brother had been interested in learning piano. I had reached to several music teachers in the area, and while most of them followed up with me, Julie was the one person who genuinely came across as her most authentic self when she said I could call her with any questions I had, which I did. She patiently addressed all my questions over the phone and made herself available for my parents (whom are native Spanish speakers but can get by with some conversational English) and my brother to check out her studio and answer their questions. It was the best decision we ever made. My brother is now 17-years-old and closing up his final year with Julie as he prepares to graduate from high school. Over the last 3 and a half years, Julie has helped my brother gain inspiration and confidence in himself. He was diagnosed with Autism at a young age but is high-functioning and asks a TON of questions, all of which Julie patiently answers for him. My brother really dedicates a great deal of time in mastering the piano and Julie is always more than happy to provide challenging pieces for him to work on. My family and I really enjoy working with her and she has always made herself available when we had to submit letters of recommendation for music scholarships and she truly cares about her students.

I never got a call back, and I decided to try once more where I finally got someone and booked a session. (Our other local music school was relocating farther from us, and my daughter really wanted lessons.) Our lessons were.. okay. They didn't always start promptly and they were usually in tiny, hot rooms big enough for one small folding chair (plus instrument and standing student with teacher). We tried it out for a couple months and it was not for us. When canceling, they assured me it would be okay, but of course they continued to charge us the following months. I called, and again no return messages. I called again, spoke to someone and they said James would call me back, but not a word since two weeks ago. When she called, she spoke directly with Jason, and he answered all her questions. They got me signed up for my first lesson pretty quickly after that, and the rest is history. The curriculum Jason pulled together has helped me improve my skills while exposing me to new and interesting musical genres. However, my experience would be nothing without my instructor, Jin. He is an excellent guitarist in his own right and an excellent teacher as well. I came in with a smattering of guitar knowledge (had been playing for ~10 years before signing up and was largely self-taught), and Jin knew how to take what I already knew and combine it with everything the curriculum had to offer, dramatically improving my playing. I'm now able to do more than just look at a chord sheet and strum along or slowly make my way through a tab. I'm able to listen to a song, understand it, and am slowly but surely getting to a point where I can start transcribing by ear. Jin has been integral to this process, and I appreciate all the insight and help he has provided. If you are interested in either learning how to play guitar or improving your skills, Guitar Ninjas is the way to do it.
