He persuaded me to undergo what he called "premium laser vision correction" without clearly explaining what the procedure involved. It turned out to be a more invasive and costly surgery, which he strongly encouraged without discussing alternatives. As a result, I lost much of my near-range vision, and my astigmatism remained uncorrected--although my long-range vision did improve. When I raised these concerns, he dismissed them. He also scheduled my follow-up appointment just a few days beyond the period covered by my insurance, which felt intentionally misleading. He later delayed providing my medical records, forcing me to make multiple requests and even raise my voice at the receptionist before they were finally released. The front desk staff appeared unmotivated and unhelpful throughout the process. Although he did not accept my medical insurance--which I understood--I did have vision coverage. He referred me to an out of network optometrist within his office without disclosing her role, and he has since refused to release my prescription without additional payment. Withholding medical records or prescriptions violates patients' rights under federal law, and overall, this experience was unprofessional and deeply disappointing. read more

Big thanks to Dr. Sheety! I had an ongoing issue that I couldn't figure out, I was in and out of hospitals trying to find out why I was feeling nausea while doing activities that required fast motion. I went in today which I was told was for a glasses appt. Instead, I was seated for eye testing. The woman who was testing did not know what tests she was administering. Evidence: she said, "oh you already had this test". She left the room momentarily. She came back and still was confused so I left. Dr. Sheety is a very good doctor. Unfortunately, some of his medical staff is not nice. They could use some training in customer service. They are not patient with older patients and they will not open the door for you if you are early for your appointment. I am surprised that a professional doctor would have such arrogant staff. This place was recommend by the ER after an eye injury...so I called and made an appointment. I sat and waited over an hour for my appointment, but figured it was because they got me in so quick. I made a follow up appointment which was scheduled weeks out, I went and sat in their waiting room for over half hour and no one talked to me, tons of people are just sitting here and waiting. They rather loos a whole family as patients over a policy that is a scam. I asked to have my eyes checked for color blindness. A simple test that is looking in a book and if you see the numbers in colors then you are not color blind. During my annual first time visit and was told that the test was not covered and that I had to pay extra for that. But $85 was not what I expected. Called VSP that confirmed that a color exam could be a part of the well exam but if the company is billing it separate it is not covered. The billing and the owner did not like to bill it as a part of the well exam. I was told that this place is not like "most eye doctors" I called around and other places had this test for free. I am now at UCI and my daughters color eye exam (that was a part of there well exam) was included. I will not be returning and are not recommending this place due to the billing issues I had. read more

I've been going to their office since 2007 and have really enjoyed being seen by Dr. Michael Pilon. He was thorough, explained everything in detail and answered all my questions. Within the last year I'm not sure what happened with their back office but wait time are much longer and payments for the same procedure from year to year have increased. I went in to see Dr Sheety today making sure I was on time knowing that time is a commodity that most do not have to waist. I checked in with a very nice receptionist and took care of all the loose paperwork. I waited 45 minutes after my scheduled appointment and went up to the receptionist and asked her if there was a better time to come in when he runs closer to his appointment times. To my surprise her answer was NO he always runs behind like this. Needless to say she was very nice and willing to reimburse my co pay. My mom went to this doctor and it was an absolute nightmare! There was nothing but complication upon complication, starting the very next day. She was in emergency for approximately five hours, that within that time period he never called the attending although there were calls into him. Follow-up visits he was rude, would not answer questions regarding the pressure, or any question in general unless we got extremely direct with him. He blamed the complications on my mom for not taking her drops properly, but as we found out with a new doctor, the cataract had been dropped BEHIND her eye and left there. She should have been referred to a retina specialist and been removed within 72 hours!! Dr. Sheety had her come back weekly for pressure checks that he didn't know how to correctly fix. Besides referring her to a glaucoma specialist which was NOT the cause all he did was "practice" medicine. Since going to new doctors, the cataract was removed, pressure is at a normal range and their is no glaucoma (which was caused by the high eye pressure), and my mom's eyesight has returned to 20/40 (with Dr. Sheety eye sight was 20/400!). We filed a complaint with the opthmology board for his incompetence. If you care about your precious eyesight please please please do not go to this doctor/eye center - because Dr. Sheety/Sierra Eye Center does not. read more

When this office was Sierra Eye Center is was run very efficiently. Rarely did I have to wait. When I came in today for my appointment at 9am I was told my appointment was made for another day. This wasn't schedule by me as I made the appointment for my only day off weeks prior. Then the office manager said she could get me in at 10:30 instead. *** Nicole screams, "WHY CAN'T YOU JUST PAY YOUR BILL?!" because I don't have my statement and you won't set up a payment plan, how do we correct this, DR SHEETY? *** I'm having a tremendously unpleasant and continued unprofessional experience with Dr Michael Sheety's staff. This began back in March 2016, my insurance policy lead to an exorbitant charge that I couldn't afford in one sitting. I asked for some help they said they could give me a 20% discount on my payment plan. GUESS WHAT, they refuse to send me the payment plan and have reneged on the discount offer. I like having a monthly paper statement particularly when professional transactions are going sour. It gives me comfort knowing that I have a hard copy record so nothing can be "accidentally" added, omitted, altered, etc. I have to make this uncomfortable call month after month to people who all know me (very small office) so they ALL treat me poorly. I just want my paper statements and a payment plan like we originally discussed. It's certainly my right, after-all it's MY money and credit on the line! Now it seems that multiple calls are needed each month, I just got off the phone requesting the info again and absorbing belittling comments yet again. When I asked why I need to call each month for my statement and payment plan that I haven't received yet Nicole yelled "WHY CAN'T YOU JUST PAY YOUR BILL?!?!" I'm trying, in fact trying harder than I should have to. This is so frustrating, I'm really hoping I can talk to the Dr Sheety so we can have an intelligent conversation and get a plan of action set up but UGH, what can I do? His Front Office and Billing staff are SO unprofessional, hoping and praying to send my balance to collections.
