Then there are some idiots and con artists. Estimates are consistently on the high side (sometimes by 2x). Some work they've done (ie: fixing an oiler leaks) has been shoddy as well, however these are more the exception than the rule. When it comes to the big ticket items they're fine, and I personally have not had a major issue with timeliness (just complain if you get a cancellation, however I would use them as reference point (inspections) and for emergencies. For anything more significant, better off hiring experts instead of generalists.
