I have found that they will claim to do services that you do not receive and that you did not approve. When you dispute the claim they said you should have known what we were doing instead and approve plan of treatment with your insurance company. Dr V is a horrible UNPROFESSIONAL dentist. So is the whole office really, they only care about money and not your health. Stay away from this place, front office staff is rude and the constantly text and call you about your appointments received a text that stated that if I did not confirm it would be canceled. Very rude on phone and after all of that ask me if I could come in later due to a scheduling mess up on the staff's part. Absolutely AWFUL They made my dentures charged me 1200 and billed my insurance the teeth have been sitting in water since they have NEVER FIT. The back teeth hit each other immediately and I cannot even close my mouth. It took them 8 months to complete I went back 3 times for them to fix and they didn't fix them and in fact when I went back the 4 th time they told me to find another dentist they no longer did dentures!!! read more

Dr. Vercammen seems very money hungry and the magic number for any of my family members to get work done was $1200. We left the practice and found out from another dentist that he left 2 of my daughter's teeth that were treated still through him open for further decay. Bad! They almost never have availability. The dental hygienists are very snippy. The dentist didn't say two words. I'll take a good dentist that isn't friendly, but I left with simple filling hurting for weeks. They are loose with the tools, my mouth was whacked by taking a drill out. Don't waste your time or money, paid cash for a partial in September 2022 it has never fit correctly went back to them several times, the last time I went was told they no longer do partials and will refer me to someone who does. I thought that was very weird since they were the ones I bought the partial from. I decided to make an appointment and see what another dentist thought and was told the partial was not made correctly and I would need to purchase a new one. I had broken a tooth repaired and was pleased, while there asked about the "Invisalign" procedure. The dentist assistant told me it would cost a little less then $4500 and take about 6 months, so I had my teeth scanned and when I got to the front desk Michelle told me it would cost $4200. I said I would be back next week to arrange to start the procedure. When I returned Michelle told me it would cost $5000. I understand that price increases happen, but I also think a business should honor it's estimates. I was told one price but when I got ready to pay the price jumped $800. I owned my own advertising business for 35 years. If I ever gave a price estimate I always stuck to it. That's good business. I declined the service and that's a shame because I liked Dr. V. Stay away from these people. They have grown too much to fast. The actual dentist rarely shows up to see patient. The past few times I have scheduled appts the office calls me asking me to move my time to accommodate the hygienist's schedule. On my visit 6 months ago I was quoted $450 for a procedure. They charged me over $800 when they got around to billing me. (This is not an insurance related issue). Fast forward to my next 6 month clean. Again, they call me before apt asking to change my time to accommodate the hygienest. I arrive, she spends 5-10 minutes on my cleaning service. When I go to check out now my routine cleaning is over $70 when it was included in my dental plan before as routine. There was no difference in the service I received other than than it being shorter than all other services I had received over the past 3 years. However they claim it's different now that I had the $800 service before. Buyer beware if the hygeniest is selling you additional services with out actually knowing the cost of the service. read more

Do yourself a favor and find another dentist. You will just be lied to multiple times. I had a treatment plan and I went to this office EIGHT times within SEVEN weeks. After the first visit I went back and got a temporary crown that was so painful, I had to return days later. Even after I left again, it still hurt. When I got my permanent crown, I paid my fee and left. Then proceeded to come to more visits and get more work done. I found out later my insurance wouldn't cover the first crown because they said I didn't need it. When I came back to start to process of fitting for my second crown, I told Dr. Steppe that if I was going to have to pay the full price or anymore on this crown, that I could not proceed with having other work done. He told me that I wouldn't have to pay any more than I already had, EVEN IF insurance did not pay. He said "I promise you." So I had the second temp crown done, paid for that visit and left. It's been 4 months and I still have issues with both crowns, but I knew I had an appointment coming up and any time I would call they said to give it time. To my surprise I received an email that I had a bill that was 90 days past due for $231. I called and spoke with a woman and she said they were still waiting on my insurance and not to worry about it. I went into my claims and saw that my insurance paid them a month ago, so what is this bill? Even if they didn't pay, I was already told by Dr. Steppe that I would be okay. When I went into my visit this morning I brought this up. Dr. Steppe said "I meant that we would cover anything the insurance wouldn't pay on THEIR portion." I said yes, I get that, I have already paid my portion. At this point, I'm upset, so he said he will talk to someone. He comes back and tells me and the hygienist that it's "all fine, write it off, I told her it would be fine." The hygienist leads me up very cheerily "See I told you, you had nothing to worry about, Dr. Steppe really cares for his patients and will take care of you." The lady at the checkout desk was explaining what happened and then said I only owed for a product I bought and I was good to go. Everything was taken care of. Not even 2 hours later, that same lady is calling me back saying I have to pay the $231 because it would be "insurance fraud" to write it off. I'm sorry what? You all just told me to my face that everything was good to go. She said it wasn't their problem and that it was mine because my insurance was maxed out and my insurance won't pay. I look again and see that my insurance in fact DID pay, with my rollover account that they already knew about. I said "How is this my problem when you all said to me that I had nothing else to pay?" She condescendingly said "Well you'll just have to contact your insurance, nothing we can do!" I have NEVER had so many people at a business lie to my face. And let's not sit here and pretend that they don't have other ways to correct their mistake. THEIR mistake, not mine. Find another dentist so you don't have to deal with what I'm currently going through. read more

I have complete confidence in Ocean Bay Dental Care. My most recent checkup was today, August 18, 2022. Everything about my appointment was professional, friendly and knowledgeable. The office staff is very helpful and friendly. Dr. Steppe takes excellent care of his patients and answers any questions or concerns you may have. I have sensitive teeth and TMJ and have always been cared for gently and carefully by Brittany, the dental hygienist and Dr. Steppe. I bring my certified hearing service dog with me and everyone is happy to see him. Because I can't hear on phones, the office staff, including Ashton, communicates with me via text, which is a tremendous relief. I'm very comfortable with the top quality care I receive here and have been coming here for four years. The waiting room is comfortably furnished and has always been spotlessly clean. I had a procedure done, a root canal. Worst experience ever... After the procedure, I had to have several adjustments of the crown. Now months after the procedure, I am still in pain. After that, my most recent visit, they confirmed they failed to do the root canal correctly and that I would have to have it redone. SERIOUSLY?!! I was told that I was going to be referred to a specialist.(Should have been sent to a specialist from the start!)They said that they would cover the cost. I go see the specialist...have x-rays done and schedule a time to do the procedure. I get a call from Ocean Bay Dental, in which I was told I would be refunded for less than half of their screw up. They wanted to refund $600 out of $1400 and I would be responsible for the $1200 I am being charged for the new procedure! We tried the Ocean Bay in Carolina Forest but it seemed like a factory and the prices were very high! My wife hasn't had a cavity in 20 years. She got one filled at Ocean Bay and it still hurts. They also told her she needed periodontal gum cleaning. She accepted it and it cost $1200! I don't know if that is a one time treatment or will be repeated. They told me I needed it to and I told them I had maybe 20 years left and I would take my chances. Every customer I heard talking to them were being told they also needed the same $1200 cleaning. We have never spent more than $200 at any dentist unless it was a root canal. This place appears to be ripping people off. We will not go back and we will try to find nice small dental office with a friendly atmosphere. read more

I called in October 2019 to schedule as a new patient. The could not fit me in until May 2020. I waited patiently for my appointment. Then The corona virus hit and my appointment was understandably cancelled. I was told they would call to reschedule. Never heard a word. Called today 7/22/2020. I was told that because I need a new patient appointment I couldn't be seen till November. They had to close for 3 months, no effort was to made to reschedule my appointment before filling their schedule with other patients. They should simply tell you they cant take new patients. went in for my annual cleaning of course they had to do xrays. I was told some of my teeth needed deep cleaning and was told $600 plus, of course i declined as I have no insurance that I just wanted my cleaning, they would not clean my teeth because I declined the deep cleaning. The Dr came in didn't even look in my mouth told me I had periodontal disease and my teeth are going to fall out. I have always had my teeth checked and cleaned on a regular basis, so from last years app't to this year,I was diagnosed with gum disease. So no cleaning because I refused their procedure still had to pay $255 for x rays, I will never go back to them again. they're always trying to sell you something. My husband went there as well to get a tooth pulled and he was told the same thing he needed a deep cleaning as he declined as well so they wouldn't clean his teeth nor would they pull his tooth told him he needed an oral surgeon, he went to another dentist and they pulled his tooth with no problem. Just moved here and didn't have a dentist. I broke a tooth on a Friday afternoon and stopped by. The dentist was willing to see me then but there was a dentist that was suppose to be open on Saturday so I left. The other dentist never called me back so I called Ocean Bay that Monday and got an appointment for the next day. Dr Blair was great. He explained my options. I either could have it capped or to have it extracted. Since it was a last molar I decided to have it removed and he agreed that would be my best option, since a cap was a little more then I wanted to spend on this tooth. They are very nice and great people to help get over your fears of the dentist. I will not hesitate to go back to them as my regular dentist now that I am here. read more

I had a cleaning appointment at OBDC on November 19 2019. I had been seeing Dr. Blair for the last 4 years. For whatever the reason Dr. Blair is no longer at OBDC. so for this appointment I was scheduled to see Dr. Brendan Vercammen. The hygienist greeted me and told me they were going to take x-rays before she got started on the cleaning. I requested that we skip the x-rays at this time because I have had a lot over the last 6 months. She pushed back explaining how how safe they were, I once again declined the x-rays. She then said I would need to see the Dr. before she could get started. After a 20 minute wait Dr. Vercammen showed up. He tried to convince me that I needed the x-rays, I then explained all the x-ray that were shot of me over the last 6 months, it is a long list that covered mutable x-rays of my teeth, head, shoulder, back, hands and chest. I did say on my next visit i would be fine with x-rays. With that he rudely told me they (meaning OBDC) could not treat me unless I had x-rays. I was a little taken aback by his abrupt nature and that his belief that a set of x-rays was more important then a semi-annual cleaning. If he was truly a caring dentist they would have done the cleaning regardless of our difference of option regarding the x-rays. The thing that gets me is that I have been with OBDC ever sense they opened. I went to OBDC because I was a patient of Dr. Blair and he moved there from North Myrtle Beach. You would think they would show a little understanding but I guess not. All I could figure is that the x-rays generate revenue and additional revenue is more important the good relationship with their patients. I will not be going back and would suggest you look for a dentist office that is a little more caring about their patients needs. read more

We just moved to the area. Happened to go online and saw a new dentist was opened 12/1/17. I went in with my 6 & 10 yr old. The dental techs made me feel comfortable as the parent. Walked my girls through what they were about to have done. At the end, there is even a cavity free club, which my girls loved the "award". Will definitely be going back. read more
