If you are looking for a pool that is quiet, good lifeguards, no alcohol and is clean this is for you.

They were at first going to try the Yacht Club. That one is 18+ (more like 48+) which is not a bad thing except my young adults said they were afraid that if they even laughed people would stare. Not perfect due to the pricing for those renting a home at Ocean Pines. I understand there is an expense in maintaining pools, and that the owners pay fees, but the $9 per person per day without the ability to pool hop among their many pools if you don't like the one you started in is a bit steep. I think maybe $6 for adults and$3 per kids would be more reasonable, especially since the average stay is around 2 and a half hours. Still, it was clean , the people were pleasant, and my family had a decent time.

I…read morehope I can help you resolve your ambivalence by telling you what an awesome experience this was!! Let me start with the registration process. It was really easy. Just go to their website and fill out the form. You will receive an automated email telling you all the details, like timing and what to bring. If there is inclement weather or weird tides, they will call you prior to the lesson, otherwise, you are good to go! When you pull up to the surf shop, the lessons are around the left corner on the outside of the building. You'll probably see multiple buff guys with wet suits on pulling out surf boards. Don't be intimidated- these guys are the instructors and they are SUPER nice and down to Earth. We were greeted with a smile by one of the owners (Brian), who took our payment and provided us with wet suits for the lesson. The wet suits kept us totally comfortable the whole time. I was a little surprised to see how popular these lessons were as there were about 8 instructors and around 10 "students." By the way, there was quite a range of ages of students (not just children) and my instructor said he has worked with young children through age 80! Once everyone suited up, we walked across to the street to the ocean. The DH and I were each assigned our own instructor who carried the heavy boards over for us. One tip- I brought a big beach bag with towels, cell phones, and water. I think next time, I would just bring a small bag with cell phones and a water bottle. Even though it was a cool night for summer (in the low 70s), I think I could have left the towels at the surf shop as we were comfortable in the wet suits. After a brief safety and instructional overview, we were out in the water in minutes! You go out with your individual guide who holds on to the end of your board and does all of the hard work for you. He/she will pick good waves and tell you when to stand. They will also help push your board over really big waves while you are floating out there so that you don't wipe out while just floating on the board waiting for a good wave. The DH and I asked for about a 5 minute break a piece so that we could take pictures of each other and our instructors were totally accommodating. In case you're wondering what is physically involved, you spend most of the time laying stomach down on the board and when you catch a wave you move into a plank, then bring one leg forward and stand up. Really not hard, just a matter of keeping balance! The DH had Nathaniel and I had Phil as our instructors. They were knowledgeable and friendly and will really make you feel at home on the board. I can't recommend this experience highly enough and I hope I can go again next year!

I recently completed a weekend surf camp with Michelle and really enjoyed it! You can book through…read moreemail. She allows up to 8 women, but be aware that her camps book up pretty quickly. I was able to squeeze in as the 8th when I booked 2 weeks in advance, but others were saying they booked months ahead. You are confirmed as booked when she receives your check in the mail. A few days before the camp, Michelle sends out an email with the details about what to bring and where to meet. She also starts a text chain so that you can communicate day-of. Our camp met as Assateague State Park at 9:00 on Sat and 10:00 on Sun (due to surf conditions). Each lesson lasts for about 2 hours (ours went slightly over). A few things to note: Assateague State Park and Assateague National Park are on the same island, but are 2 different places. After going over the bridge, stay straight to get to the state park, or turn right to go to the national park. It does cost $ to get into the State Park ($6 for out of state and $4 for in-state) so bring some cash. ASP is apparently a popular surfing spot for locals as there were probably 20 surfers right when you enter from the parking lot, so we walked down the beach a bit. On the first day, Michelle spent some time going over some safety basics, which I really appreciated! Things like coming out of the water with a hand over your head so the board doesn't hit you and making sure the board is perpendicular to the shoreline when going in and out of the water, again to prevent it from hitting you. It sounds simple, but I would not have figured those things out on my own. Then, she broke us into groups of four and had us take turns coming out to practice with her. At first, she has you get on the board and she pushes you towards the shore to ensure you are catching waves. By the second day though, she was more helping to direct when to get on your board and then you paddle to catch the wave yourself (rather than her grabbing the board and pushing you). On the second day, everyone was on their feet, standing on the board! Another cool fact about day 2- Michelle has her photographer friend come take pictures of everyone and then she gives you the photos electronically as part of your package. LOVED THAT! She also finished by giving us tips on how to pursue surfing further if interested. She told us where to rent boards, what size to get, and how to check a surf report. Also, she also said if we are ever back in the area, we can text her to ask if the weather is appropriate for surfing. I think it's awesome that she is willing to be an ongoing resource. She also started a facebook page where people who have taken lessons with her can connect to go surfing together again in the future. I honestly feel like I could rent a board in the future and catch some waves on my own- which was my whole goal of participating in the camp. One more thing- surfing is one of the most physically exhausting exercises I have tried. It truly takes your entire body to carry the boards from the car, drag the board out in the water multiple times, core strength, shoulder/arm strength, and balance to stand up. I'm in pretty good shape and I'm fairly sore. I don't say that to scare anyone off. We had a variety of shapes, sizes, and ages in our group. Just something to be aware of, as experienced surfers can make it look so easy.

The conditions were pretty rough, so I ended up as an extra swimmer to help the kids paddle out. But it was all good - Dan was very patient with the kids, and focused on safety and fun. Finally, have to mention that I was very impressed with Dan's communication. I texted him out of nowhere the day before, and he responded almost immediately with detailed and specific info about the lessons, location, etc. I really appreciate that level of service.

I do however wish they would be more responsible in making sure children have their belongings together before boarding their vans for the return trips. My grandson was just purchased new shoes to go to the water park and they let him get on their van shoeless, walk into their facility, no shoes on, (walking on pavement)... I was not happy when he walked out to be picked up with no shoes! What if they had needed to unload the childre, on the side of the road?? This to me is dangerous. Children's shoes should be placed where they cannot be stolen or misplaced. Its not so much they were brand new, but no one even said one word to me when I picked him up, no apology, nothing...

There is also a set of swings that is separate from the other two. There is a combo of natural mulch on the one part and rubberized mulch that is paved on the other half. Both playsets have multi-tiered areas to play on and under. Monkey bars, climbing walls, several slides and secret fossils and a few service windows to play "ice cream shop or food delivery" is also a nice touch. The park is open from dawn til dusk usually the park is empty but every once and a while friends will stop by and play. If you do come in the early morning remember to bring a little towel or rag to dry off the slides as the morning dew almost always leaves a puddle at the bottom of the side and no one likes a wet bottom.

What sets Arrowhead apart from other camps is that it is a Christian Community. In terms of the day to day life of camp, this means that campers stay with their unit for all of their activities. This provides campers with a group of people who they really get to know and feel comfortable around, which allows campers to push themselves. Nobody is ever bored at Camp Arrowhead, with all the fun and games going on. Even the food is delicious, especially for a summer camp.
