I am very mixed about my experience here. Convenient location... yes. Friendly staff... absolutely.... While the staff were very helpful during the exam, selecting glasses and going over my insurance I am about to reach 4 WEEKS AND STILL DO NOT HAVE MY GLASSES!!. When I asked what the hold up was after week two they kindly followed up with the lab. Because of the selection I made my glasses were sent to two labs. I've since called other facilities to see what the turn around time would be. On average I was told 4 DAYS. I've missed work because of vision problems, and seriously need my glasses. They were supposed to be in last week and I've heard nothing. 4 WEEKS for glasses and we spend over $1,100 [2 people 2 sets] and... nothing. Returning for an exam is a possibility but I'm not sure about purchasing my glasses here in the future. Make sure you confirm the turn around time!! They told me 2 weeks... I'm going on 4 :( read more

I came to Ocean Park Optometry after being disappointed by the last Optometrist I went to. They met all my expectations and more. Before I came in I knew exactly how much my visit would cost. I really not into writting bad reviews, but I think after going there for a few years, and things getting worse, not better, I should warn others. The biggest problem I have with them is dishonesty. Every single time I go, they try to charge me for contact lenses exam, when I know, my insurance covers it. I paid the first time, but after calling my insurance company I asked for the refund - and the person on the phone told me, that I am lucky I am smart-most people never do that. What?!!! Once I went at the end of the year, and the system said, that I already had my benefits used up- when I didn't even go that year to any eye doctor. The office quickly fixed that...Hmm. Last time I went, the nurse(or asistant) walked me to the exam machine that is not covered by my insurance without telling me about the fee. I refused just because I knew from previous years. So why I kept going there? Because they are so close to me. The last straw for me was, that last time I got a weird prescription-very different from the years before, and glasses are simply not usable for me -I don't know if it was a revenge for me not giving in into their tricks or something, but I am definetely not going there again. The doctor is very nice though,office is bright-a bit small, and appointments are easy to get - so I am giving 2 stars instead of one. If you do choose them, make sure you know exactly what your insurance covers and what not-don't trust them to tell you the truth. read more

The Positive: Dr. Ito is a wonderful optometrist, whom I have been going to for many years. Even when we moved to the other side of town, I kept returning for her professional and compassionate demeanor. She is also wonderful at describing changes that may be happening in my eyes, as well as keeping up with the latest technology for lenses, drops and glasses. The Negative: They just raised their prices from $144 for a contac lens and glasses exam to $244. They neglected to tell me of this fee hike until after I traveled across town (an hour) to get there - an email would've been nice. A comparison with other optometrists proved this is a high price. SECOND, their prices for contacs are not competitive with online places. THIRD, two of the three staff that work at the front counter have been rude - first, about scheduling, then, about the fee hike, third, about release of information to a new provider. Sorry, Visionworks, you lost me. read more

I am absolutely thrilled with the quality of service at Visionworks, especially from Antwanett! On the day before Halloween, I was able to book a next day appointment for both of my young daughters and myself, and better yet, Antwanett was very engaging and patient with my children, even though they were a bit skirmish in hopes that they could soon move on to trick-or-treating. Antwanett is very caring and has proven to me that holding a personal relationship with her clients is, as she stated, "The bottom line" and a priority in her customer service style. Even a month after our first visit, Antwanett still remembers specific details about my daughters that many people could easily dismiss - I just can't say enough about her! Also, when my glasses were delivered to me, they did not fit comfortably on my nose. This was a big concern to me, given that I had not worn reading glasses for nearly nine years since my lasik eye surgery, and I knew that I needed to exchange those glasses for a more comfortable pair, or I would not be using them at all. The exchange would not be easy, given that my insurance had expired and apparently "nothing" could be done for me...well, Antwanett did everything in her power to help me find and purchase new glasses at a reasonable price - she clearly understood the urgency of my request. I cannot thank Dr. Ito, Antwanett and the rest of the staff at Visionworks enough! I absolutely recommend this office to everyone who wants to have a more personal and welcoming relationship with their optometrist and the staff :) read more

I have worn glasses since I was 1.5 years old, so I've had my fair share of eye exams and eye doctors. I researched doctors in the area and was impressed with Ocean Park Optometry's high yelp rating and complimentary reviews. It was in-network, so everything seemed like it aligned. I arrived at the office (3/24) and had my eye appointment. It was a no frills, no nonsense appointment. I did have to openly indicate (without being prompted by the optician) that my father has glaucoma. I've never not been asked about a family history of eye disease, but since it's hereditary, I felt obliged to disclose. I complained to Dr. Ito about how my left contact would always irritate my eye. Dr. Ito informed me I was actually allergic to my contacts, hence, the irritation. She even flipped my eyelid up to inspect and provided me a printout describing conjunctivitis. It was very helpful. She suggested a more frequent, daily wear contact in lieu of my normal monthly contacts to prevent debris from accumulating on my contact and irritating my eye. I was told that they could order the daily contacts so I could try them before I decided to purchase them. Sounded great! They offered to get me a pair that was "not quite my prescription," however I opted to have them order my actual prescription given how expensive dailies are, to make sure they were going to work for me and that the prescription was right. They indicated that they would order them and I could pick them up "in a few days." Three weeks later (4/15) and numerous calls back and forth to the office, my contacts were in. I drove to the office and was handed a pair of bi-monthly contacts...When I indicated that I was supposed to receive dailies, there seemed to be a bit of confusion. 45 minutes later, it was finally sorted out and they indicated they would order the correct contacts and mail them to me via USPS. After having not received the contacts for 2 weeks, I called and was told that they would "call me back." When I didn't receive a call back, I called yet again the next day and was told that they had mailed them "the day before." It is 5/10 and I still have not received the daily contact samples. Today, I finally relented to just asking for my prescription for both types of contacts (the bi-monthly that they let me keep and the dailies that I never received) and my glasses. I will purchase my contacts from another source as I truly don't think I could have any worse service. To give some context, my sister, who has an astigmatism worse than mine, went to Costco last week for an eye exam, received sample daily contacts for her exact prescription on the spot, and has already ordered and received her contacts. I had my appointment over 6 weeks ago, didn't receive sample daily contacts (ever), and just received my prescription today only at my request. Overall, the eye appointment was totally fine but the contact ordering was an absolute, unprofessional disaster. read more

I went here based on several good reviews, being woman run, good customer service when I called & updated equipment. It's just the opposite of what it seems! I made an appointment w/ Dr. Ito, drove 12.5 miles taking 40 min. just one way to see her. When I got there, I found that Dr. Ito was not there that day, that a substitute was in her place, a Dr. Condo. I was taken aback! What place doesn't tell you that the Dr. will be out of the office the day you are coming in?! I was upset to say the least, especially as I had NO information whatsoever as to Dr. Condo's experience or credentials or reviews of her work. My eyes are incredibly important to me as I am an artist & I am new to LA & am looking to find a kind, competent, patient Dr. I can work with & enjoy a repeat relationship. This was NOT my idea of what I had signed up for! I didn't know what to do as they sprung it on me, in fact they DIDN'T EVEN LET ME KNOW THIS WAS A SUBSTITUTE DR. I had to ask them about the name difference for them to tell me! I backed out at first, disoriented & upset. I'd driven 40min. for NOTHING, had changed my schedule to come & have a chronic illness that keeps me from feeling healthy much of the time so I have to carpe diem when I do feel well enough to get stuff done, so to me this was a HUGE blow physically. Having to return another day of the week, an almost 2hr round trip drive & another day out when I couldn't know if I'd feel healthy enough. I broke out in a rash I was so upset. I was going to just leave & reschedule another day when one of the office assistants offered that I could see Dr. Condo now & come back later to see Dr. Ito. I didn't think it was a good idea & went to think about my options for awhile in my car. I was so muddled & thrown off center at this point I didn't think straight. They were trying to get me hooked into them, by getting my $ they guaranteed I would HAVE to return. There was some pressure by Dr. Condo to do the exam, she actually came out to my car! I eventually gave in, figuring I could see Dr. Ito later, only to find out that Dr. Ito is going on VACATION next week for about 2 weeks! I wasn't sure I could get in before she left & I couldn't wait any longer to get this eyeglass thing going, It's long overdue because I've been so ill this past year. I had THE SINGLE MOST TERRIBLE EYE EXAM of my LIFE. The Dr. had NO idea how to use the optical equipment & it took FOREVER to go through the exam. She kept doing weird things like leaving the lights on during the exam, not lighting the close up part of the exam, skipping it cuz she couldn't figure out how to light it, etc.& then, she gives me THE EXACT RESULTS AS WHAT I'VE BEEN WEARING THE PAST 4 YEARS! Come on, there's NO WAY it could be exactly the same, the axis would shift even a degree at least. I don't think she was able to complete the exam because of this result. I didn't even get a written prescription when I left, plus, even 4 days later my eyes are dry, which started during the exam. I rarely have dry eyes. To make matters even worse (if that's possible!) this Dr. harassed me for my private medical information that had NOTHING TO DO WITH AN EYE EXAM! I told her about my chronic illness so she was aware & because it caused floaters in my eyes. But she nagged me about it all through the exam & had the nerve to demand that I bring in my PRIVATE MEDICAL RECORDS to her next time I came! Are u kidding me? Why would I share those with a NON-medical Dr. especially when it has nothing to do with a eye exam other than the floaters? This just is inexcusable behavior. She even gave me a list of all the things she wanted me to bring next time! Then, when I later called to say I just wanted my $ back, I'd had a terrible exam& was not well enough or able to change my schedule to see Dr. Ito before she leaves for 2 weeks I'd just like to be free to see someone else to get this moving forward before Sept I was told by a MAN (WTF? I thought this was a woman-run establishment? They think I'm going to cave in & be all intimidated cuz it 's a man? Come on!) who in a very unfriendly way said that this was a service & he wasn't about to return a cent of my $ to me. What stupidity on their part. what lack of customer service! What arrogance! They give me a sh*tty exam with a dr. I didn't sign up for & their Dr. is going on vacation & I can't see her before she goes out of town so they are going to take me captive for the next 3 or more weeks till I could possibly see her again? They are NOT going to get their completely undeserved $. DON'T GO HERE! I can't comment on if Dr. Ito is a good Dr. but I can say she has POOR judgement if this is who she has sub for her & how she doesn't inform patients she's out of the office! I want to thank Visionworks Optometry for helping me obtain the best vision I've had in 20 years. Thanks to Dr. Sarah Ito's patience, her office (which has modern, effective technology) and her great staff, I am more satisfied than I have ever been with an optometrist. What makes her and her staff especially great for me is my history of horrific experiences with optometrists in the past. I'm happy to report my experiences have been transformed from catastrophic to extraordinary! Where can I begin? Dr. Ito's office provides a welcoming environment with an amazing staff including Zoyla who seems to amazingly keep track of everybody before she even looks things up in the computer. Karen is a masterful genius of all the high-tech gadgetry in her office even though I think my high prescription almost causes some of the machines to short circuit! Ana was very knowledgeable with my newfangled hybrid contacts even though I spilled them all over the table. And Antwanentt (to whom I apologize for crashing into the display of glasses while trying to warm up to a new prescription) is knowledgeable and helpful about your product lines without resorting to high-pressure sales techniques. What else makes Dr. Ito's office so special to me? During the past 20 years, in my quest to see clearly: -One office shuttled me into connected 3 sided cubicles with a row of doctors who don't even have a private offices. -One office liked to corner & pressure me into overpriced items without any reasonable explanation of their purpose. -One office required me to save my receipts & file my own insurance claims. -One optometrist required me to wear oversized tight contact lenses that hurt my eyes & refused to fix the problem - even after I complained my eyes were hurting! -Lens Crafters Santa Monica spent 5 minutes with me & told me I was too complicated & to go somewhere else. -One optometrist fit me with odd cone-shaped lenses that hurt & had swirly visual artifacts & used me as a therapist discussing dysfunctional family issues while wasting time & not solving my vision problems -- oddly during the many times I went there, there was NEVER another customer in the office -- & it was a large office with 2 receptionists. -One optometrist would rant how I was exactly the type of customer they didn't like (an emerging presbyopic) because "we are too picky". Tried first to convince me to wear fixed vision lenses & to buy drug-store reading glasses, but grudgingly provided multifocals. I was required pay for and save the fixed vision lenses and bring them in for any refittings, or I would be chastised & required to buy them again. I was scolded & warned that multifocal revisions were not allowed if I didn't save the unused lenses & bring them back with me. -And my favorite; the doctor who was so frustrated and upset with me (I think because I said too loudly that a new prescription they made for me wasn't working) that the doctor slammed a refund check on the counter at me and told me to never come back! I was heartbroken. At this point, I thought it must be me! Am I that complicated? Are my eyes that horrible that nobody is able to help me? Did I really deserve to get thrown out of an office? When I first came to VisionWorks & met Dr. Ito, some amazing things started to immediately happen. -Their newer technology offered more consistent readings of my strong prescription. -They had a precise high-tech "glasses measuring machine" that allowed me to get the best pair of glasses I've had in 20 years. -They were the first to fit me with soft contact lenses that actually work, & my new correctly fitted fantastic Synergeyes hybrid multifocals, the best I've had in 20 years also! -Their staff actually processed my insurance without me having to do anything. -Dr. Ito has no strange rules or reasons why you can't do things. -She stays aware of the latest technology & doesn't hide behind excuses based on no-longer-valid legacy. -She has amazing knowledge & the ability to clearly communicate. -She is patient & takes extra time with me when required. -She never "hides" from patients & is always accessible. -She obviously knows how to pick staff that is friendly, efficient, communicative, & knowledgeable. -Their office does not participate in high-pressure sales techniques. Very disappointed in the service that I received over the weekend. I have been coming here for a few years now and loved the service. The past two years I have been getting a years worth of contact lenses, however it never seems to last me a full year. I have been wearing contacts for 15 years now and when I received the year supply at my previous doctor I never had a problem. This is now the second year which I got cut short with my supply. I called to see if they had any in stock as my insurance can only cover the year supply, but cant get refilled until June. The woman who answered the phone was very unpleasant but assured me they had them in stock. When I showed up she had them put aside which I appreciated, but I had her pull up my prescription for both glasses and contacts for me to take home. When I took a look at the prescription for my glasses I noticed there was a discrepancy per my last visit. She did not seem to know what she was talking about in regards to my prescription being incorrect and I was very upset in the tone she used with me. When I left another patient took me aside and told me she was upset with her tone of how she spoke to me. I now have to wait until June to see another doctor to get glasses because she could not take the time to explain to me why my prescription was incorrect or check with the doctor. read more

I went in for the annual contact lens exam and prescription. Great experience. I found Dr. Ito online and scheduled online too - conveniently on a Saturday at 1 pm. There were several confirmation emails and a phone call too as reminders. I arrived at the office and the whole procedure took me 35 minutes. I love that. No harassment either. Signed in (the usual paper work); got called; pre-tests (the scanner with the barn, the glaucoma photos, the peripheral test) were done in 7 minutes; another 15 minutes for the detailed check with the doctor. Prescription confirmed. Paid (reasonable price; VSP insurance). And out the door. I wasn't asked to get glasses, extra glasses, prescription sunglasses, etc etc (ever been to Pearle Vision? they harass you so long that you end up with something you didn't want). Anyway. So I have a new insurance carrier and I'm dreading the thought of finding an optometrist within my coverage. No one likes changes but I'm so glad I found this place. I called and Antoinette answered the phone. She was so kind and took down my information and told me she would call me back to find out if I was covered through my insurance (much better than putting me on hold so this eliminated the awkward stage of waiting) Got a call back within 5 minutes from Cindy who too was very helpful. I've already had an eye exam through Costco but I needed contacts and glasses so I walked in there without an appointment. The vibe inside was very pleasant. A lady who was assisting someone took the time to smile at me. (Looked at her name and it was Antoinette) Cindy helped me look at glasses without the feeling of being pressured to purchase any. She had really good opinions and was very honest on what works well with my face. The first choice she gave me I fell in love with (although I opted to just purchase contacts at the moment.) I'm definitely coming back here to get my next eye exam and hopefully purchase those glasses. read more

Dr. Sarah Ito and her staff are truly amazing. I received a referral from a top Lasik doctor in Beverly Hills, Dr. Assil, after I was unhappy with my current optometrist in Beverly Hills. Dr. Sarah Ito has some of the most up-to-date equipment I have ever seen. No more pop of air test, and no more dilation drops! She has innovative equipment that does it all! She is patient and willing to answer all of your questions. She has such attention to detail, and really wowed me with her knowledge. You will love your eye exam! I found out that my old optometrist did not have the correct prescription, and had suggested an old version of contacts for me. Dr. Sarah Ito showed me my old vs. new prescription and it was so much better! She is truly the best. I picked out a cute pair of Kate Spade glasses with the help of her staff. They are very knowledgeable about VSP insurance and can quickly calculate out of pocket cost. This will be my only eye doctor from here on out. read more

Had a very nice experience here a few months ago. There was a substitute optometrist, not Dr. Ito, but she did a good job updating my prescription. Then a friendly tech helped me pick out some frames. She was really patient with me - I have an awkward face shape and it's tough for me to try on glasses even if I'm wearing contacts and can see myself, and in this case I didn't have contacts and was blindly guessing what frames might work. Dr Ito has good availability with times including on the weekends. I think her work is thorough, and I really appreciate the new eye exam machine that doesn't require your pupils to be dilated. I had a situation with some broken frames during an adjustment that had left me upset but I have to say that Dr Ito took the time to address the situation and make it right. Since then, I've been back for another eye exam and bought glasses there. I feel all the staff is helpful and friendly as well. Went here to help with my Binocular vision dysfunction and got ripped off. Dr. Ito studied with Dr. Debbie Feinberg for special prism glasses to help. When I went, I had double vision on only one side and first pair of glasses gave me double vision on both sides. Dr. Ito re-did the exam just before Christmas. I kept calling to find out when the new glasses would be ready and was given every excuse, such as the lab made mistakes and they had to be sent back (I was told this several times by different people) I called again in February and finally got e-mail they were in. When I went in to pick them up the lenses were not in the frames and were too small to fit. They wanted to send them back to the lab again but I told them I wanted my money back. It had been three months of dealing with this. They offered $80 back (I had paid over $1000). After a while they gave me about half back. I feel I got ripped off big time. read more
