Can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet. It's the best steakhouse in D.C. Love it! They honestly have the best burgers in the world. I tell everyone about them. Happy hour is great- as mentioned the popcorn is out of this world. One time my husband went without me and told the bartender that how much I love it and since I was at home pregnant he gave him a to-go box full of it for me. The service is always pretty good too. We have done dinner there as well. The carrot cake and butter cake delish! My husband loved his steak and I thought the fish was pretty tasty too. Drinks are always fun. Went there for our 3rd wedding anniversary as a recommendation from a friend. The decor and ambience was great. The restaurant was packed but they seated us close to our reservation time. We both had skimmed thru the menu prior so we ordered early (the bone in Kansas strip and lamb chops) the steak was cooked perfectly the lamb was under. The food was delicious including the sides (recommend the Brussels sprouts ) as a result of the lamb we got treated to complimentary glasses of champagne and desserts. I have been here several times but am finally getting around to writing this review. Overall, I LOVE this restaurant! I've been here for every occasion from happy hours with friends, to a father son dinner with my 12 year old (most recently), to celebrating friends birthday's, to just taking in-laws from out of town out for a nice dinner. I'll tell you the same thing I tell my guests the first time I take them there: "Everything on the menu is good" lol Nah, but seriously even though I haven't actually tried everything on the menu, everything I have had has been amazing and the entrees that I've only seen look like they taste amazing. For the record I've had: Ribeye steak with shrimp scampi topping; Lamb chops, Lobster tails, Oysters, Lobster mashed potatoes, Lobster Bisque, Truffle fries, creamed spinach, jalapeno au gratin, and the crab cakes - All Amazing. So far my favorite dish would be the lamb chops with lobster mash or the jalapeno au gratin.. I'm not even a big fish eater but I really wanna try the blackened snapper on my next visit. Service and ambiance are always really nice. The servers are always very accommodating, knowledgeable about the menu, and professional. The ambiance is really nice with a business casual crowd. At the same time, when the drinks get to flowing and me and my friends have been slightly loud and using adult language, no one has complained which is nice. So the only thing that I don't recommend here and the reason it didn't get 5 stars is the cocktails.. Don't waste your money bro. They are fancy but weak as hell, which sucks being that they range in price from $12-15 a pop. I ordered a rum punch before and didn't feel the slightest of a buzz. Tasted like fruit punch. And yeah even if you think that's expected I've also tried a Long Island which you cant go wrong with and it was equally as weak. Do yourself and your pockets a favor and sip a lil something before you go there. All in all, despite the weak ass drinks, for the food and ambiance alone I've definitely designated it as my "go-to" restaurant when I don't mind spending close to or over $100 bucks on a nice dinner. read more

Recently got married and held our dinner reception here. I drive by it when I'm on 14th and heard great things about it. Let's just sum up in one word: amazing. Literally the worst service ever. I was so excited to try the place out since I had heard good things. The drinks are the only reason I would give it one star - the service and the food were disappointing! I ordered a crab cake expecting to be blow away and oh boy was I wrong. As I am eating the crab cake (that is slightly cold but it took so long to bring I did not want to make a fuss over it) I find a hair as long as my entire hand in the food. Talk about disgusted. The waiters response was well everyone in the kitchen has short hair as if that was suppose to disarm me. I fired back well I do too so what is your point... My fiancé brought me to dinner here on my birthday. Love the location and atmosphere! We walked in and felt very welcomed - the hostesses were very kind! They brought us to our table and we ordered some drinks - I got this really fun martini that bubbled. For dinner I got the twin lobster tails and it was one of the best lobsters I've ever had. We chose Ocean Prime for Father's Day lunch based on the reviews and the variety of options - from brunch food to surf and turf. The ambiance is great for a special occasion or a night out. All of the staff were very nice and it wasn't loud in there which is always a plus during lunch hours. Our waitress was a little MIA in the beginning because a large party next to us was very demanding -- asking to try out all the salad dressings in tiny cups... Anyway, they bring out good bread including pretzel bread. A couple of us ordered the short rib surf and turf off the brunch menu and it was amazing. I think it was only $22. My dad got a huge NY strip steak and loved it and my mom ordered the salmon salad ($20ish). We ordered a few sides including crispy brussels, lobster mac, and gouda tots. All were good but the gouda tots were great. We ordered a second round. Overall, great place for a nice meal and I found the prices to be fair for a steakhouse / seafood restaurant. read more

The Restraunt was very pricy, the food was good ( nothing amazing or to die for) but really feel like the setting made it worth my money. I had 2 cocktails here. The berry and the rim, both splendid. Definitely recommend the berry cocktail the most, it was very pretty. I order about 6 entrees. Maybe it's my Asian palate, but I thought all of the food was ok. I know I'm a pig but my meal and drinks alone were 200.00. I've been 4 times so far, all in different settings. I've been for work, with four girlfriends, for an anniversary, and my mothers birthday. The best one was for my anniversary. The restaurant is very dark so there's a sexy vibe, not the best for dinner with your girls or co-workers. The dinner for my mom, we reserved a private room (Chevy Chase). The room accommodates 10, we had exactly 10. The room is extremely tight however, so if you're dinning in a private room make sure you're with love ones. Everything is delicious BUT i would stay away for the lobster mac and cheese. Out of all the restaurants I've had lobster mac and cheese this is the worse. It lacks cheese and a few other things I can't put my finger on... Overall Ocean Prime is worth a try. read more

My husband and I had an an amazing dinner while staying nearby. I'm glad we didn't bring the kids, this place is pricey and doesn't have many options for vegetarians. We enjoyed spending their college savings on Chilean sea bass, crab cakes, wine and carrot cake. The sea bass melted in the mouth and the crab cakes were the perfect mix of crispy outside and flavorful inside. The carrot cake was at least 11 layers tall and delicious. Don't tackle this alone. My wife and I spent the evening here for her birthday. Upon being greeted by the hostess she was engaging in some kind of disagreement with a colleague which didn't interfere with us being seated but was rather strange, unprofessional and uninviting. After being seated it took awhile for our waitress to greet us and it wasn't a busy night. When she arrived to our table she had a look of disgust. I am not sure if it was because we are young, black, lesbians, or all of the above. But she treated us terribly the entire night. She was very absent and inattentive during our dinner. So I have been trying to get here for almost a year now and I finally got here for happy hour.. Drinks were really good I recommend the bubble berry and the cucumber gimlet. The bartender made great drinks but his personality was very dry and he wasn't a good host. The happy hour menu was pretty good but the bake oysters were way too salty and the sweet and spicy shrimp was more sweet then spicy.. I went to Ocean Prime last night as part of Metropolitan Restaurant Week and I can say I was very pleased. First off as soon as you walk in there is a gentleman there to open the door for you and greet you and he was very friendly. Second the hostess promptly greeted me and were friendly. The menu had a good selection to choose from. I personally got the Caesar salad for my appetizer, teriyaki salmon (cooked well done) for my main course and the carrot cake for dessert. Everything was delicious and the waiter was very attentive and helpful in helping to choose what I should eat and what drinks went well with the meal. read more

This is one of my absolute favorite restaurants. I had my first Ocean Prime experience while working with a food blogger in New York. I had the lucky experience to try the fare at the New York location once as a special guest where we had a room to ourselves that was catered specially, and once as regular patrons. Both times, the meals were excellent and the service superb. Thus I thought it would be a good idea to go again as a fancy dinner with my date in DC. Having been to another steakhouse in DC recently, Ocean Prime hands down is the better of the two options (I will refrain from mentioning the other location). The service was excellent and attentive and the ambiance is magical for any romantic interesting in impressing his/her date. We opened with the Bubbles and Berries, which is a deliciously sweet concoction served over dry ice (have that phone ready for some instagramming... or not if you like to enjoy the moment). It impressed my date 100%. As an appetizer, we shared the complimentary bread. There were two types, one that was more like a sourdough and glazed with olive oil and another darker bread that tasted like pretzels. I liked the former better, but both were good. We also separately ordered the beef tartare. It had a sweet, briny taste that helped off-set the raw meat. It was served on tiny crouton-like toasted breads. Very delicious and exquisite! For our main courses, my date had the salmon cooked very rare, almost to the point that it was sushi quality. They cooked it exactly to her preferences. It was very soft and full of flavor. I ordered the 16 oz. ribeye, which was a huge slab of meat with butter dripping down the sides. And oh was it delicious. I devoured the entire thing. For our sides, we had the creamed spinach and the jalapeno au gratin. The spinach was too cheesy for my tastes and was probably my least favorite dish of the night (still not bad!). The potato gratin with stringy cheese was amazing and would order it again next time I come by. Even though we were stuffed, the waiter told us that they had the butter cake dessert available. Now let me tell you, the last two times I had been to Ocean Prime NYC, the waiters talked up the butter cake and convinced us to order, only to find out that... they had run out. This was my chance to finally try it, so we went ahead and got one. And were we glad we did, because that thing was heaven on a plate. Sure, it may have been made with a stick of butter or two, but it was worth it, with the scoop of ice cream melting over the top. Ocean Prime is a fantastic, beautiful restaurant that should be a staple for any steak-lover or fancy restaurant foodie. I will definitely be back and looking forward to trying more things on their menu! read more

OC Prime was great!! My husband and I can't stop talking about it. He had the Chilean Sea Bass and I had the teriyaki salmon (which came with healthy chunks of lobster mmmm). Both were deeeeeelish!! The good and drinks are always great but I was there last week on a Tuesday 10/10/23 evening... my friends and I sat at the bar trying to enjoy our time there until we had a bartender serve us our drinks. He was SO RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL. I WAS WO DISAPPOINTED AND DISGUSTED with his energy and service he gave me. I will no longer go come back to this location AGAIN unless it's the Ocean Prime Miami... Miami's location is WAY BETTER and the workers there are always better. DC will always be trash anyways. Thank god I don't live in DC anymore. Ocean Prime DC is officially OFF MY LIST. The bartenders there repeatedly kept serving my drinks aggressively with no class or respect. He kept spilling my drinks all over the counters every time he served me. I'll never recommend this place again and I'll just stick to Miami.... DC is just a horrible sad city let alone Ocean Prime. Had such an amazing dining experience here! Started in the bar for happy hour. Great selection of apps and drinks at good prices. We shared the crab dip and each had a couple cocktails. Then we had an amazing dinner- I got the scallops and my boyfriend got the ribeye and mashed potatoes. We both had more than enough food. It's certainly upscale and not inexpensive, but you get a very high quality meal and level of service. I'd love to go back here for happy hour and future celebratory meals! read more

It took 30 minutes to even get bread for the table and 3 different people asked us if we wanted it (we replied yes all 3 times). For drinks, berries and bubbles was slightly sweet but not atypical for a cocktail. I enjoyed it. The dry ice with very video worthy. The old-fashion was a bit too sweet, but the waitress told us she'd tell the bartenders. I ordered the Chilean sea bass and it was incredibly bland. The little mashed potatoes on the bottom was sadly the best part. We also ordered the creamed spinach, truffle mac and cheese, Brussels sprouts, and loaded garlic mashed, which were all bland. Add some spices and seasoning! Finally, if you order a steak, stick to the 6 oz, which was juicy and seasoned well, because anything more than that was dry, cold, and not the medium rare that was ordered. The food was as to be expected for a restaurant of this caliber. Frankly had a better meal the night before at Joe's. The MAJOR concern is that my bill came and I gladly gave them a credit card. Amex alerts me on purchases via my phone. The alert came but the amount the charged my card 50% higher than my bill i.e. My bill was 170$ but they ran my card for 250$. When I brought this to the attention of the manager he stated that my server must have mixed up checks. Problem with that is I was eating dinner at 6pm on a Sunday night. We walked in here a few nights ago for an impromptu dinner, and we had an amazing time! We sat at the bar, and Alejandro took such amazing care of us. One of the nicest touches in my opinion was when he made me a virgin strawberry mojito, without me even having to ask, because I'd told him I'm expecting and can't drink alcohol. And the food was delicious! We had the lobster roll, the Alaskan crab legs, a filet and a bunch of sides and everything was incredible. We'll be back, even if it's just to see Alejandro! Ambiance good, waiters prompt, wine was good. Filet mignon 6 oz. was tiny but very tall. It comes by itself, meaning, you have to spend more to have sides. In my opinion, if the filet came with a salad ( which doesn't cost much) it would look better. I would also decorate the plate and make it look fuller. The filet, 6 oz. looked REALLY small on that HUGE dish. Not enough for a guy. It averages about $50.00 a person. Not cheap, good food, and makes a good impression if you have guests.
