The hostess Ashley and our waiter Dymond were phanominal. They went far and above to accommodate our party!

Ambience is fantastic. More effort should be put into steak preparation. Sides were above average. Did like the wine list.

When we walked in we asked to be seated at the bar area. As we approached the table we were then told the table was reserved. The waitress went to check on the availability of the table and then came back and told us that the table was indeed available. When we asked for the lounge menu the server only wanted to provide us with the dining room full menu at full price. They later explained that it was raining and many people had stayed in the restaurant longer than usual and they were unable to turn over their tables, therefore they wanted us to order off the dining room menu because it was a higher price point. After we asked to use the lounge menu no one wanted to wait on us and everyone one seemed pretty overwhelmed and sad to be at work. The service was not great at all. Will not be going back. Please stop hiding the cheaper menu! read more

Dined at this restaurant, in the former Ceiba location near Metro Center station, several times prior to its grand opening (which isn't until Oct 6, 2016), sampling much of the menu and providing feedback to the restaurant itself. I usually don't take the time to write reviews but don't mind doing so when it's a new establishment and it's deserving of attention. In general, the food at Ocean Prime is high quality, carefully prepared and artfully presented, but I think even more compelling for a visit is the ambiance and service. Prior to the grand opening, the company sent service managers from its other locations around the country to work at this new DC location for a couple weeks. That tells you something about how serious the management team is in delivering a top-notch dining experience. Ocean Prime excels at appetizers such as its steak tartare, goat cheese ravioli, and prime roll. Its cocktails, such as the Berries & Bubbles with dry ice and Crimson Rye, are inventive and represent true craftsmanship in mixology. The seafood, such as oysters, chilled lobster, king crab legs, grouper, and blackened snapper (yes, I had all of those there), is as fresh and well-prepared as nearby Old Ebbitt's. And its rare NY or Kansas City strip steaks, prepared Oscar or with blue chese crust, rival aged cuts in nearby Mastro's or Del Frisco's. Accompanied with roasted brussel sprouts, chophouse corn, or black truffle mac and cheese, you won't have room for dessert, though you'll want to make room for the creme brulee, blueberry lemon cheesecake, or 10-layer carrot cake. The restaurant is still working on perfecting its menu, so a few areas for improvement, some of which I've already shared with the restaurant and which I'm sure they'll address: - Sushi appetizers could use more fish and less rice and vegetables. Rolls larger in diameter might also be nice. So while the prime roll is excellent, the tuna roll, lobster roll, and hamachi crudo could all use a makeover. - The crab cake appetizer was solid but not a standout; more seasoning, a thicker cake with larger lumps, and seared crispness would really help. - Oysters might benefit from being accompanied with a mignonette sauce instead of just the horseradish cocktail sauce. - More attention needs to be paid to ensuring steaks are not overcooked beyond their requested temperature. - While the seafood is excellent, it's going to be difficult to compete with similarly fresh seafood at nearby Old Ebbitt's, which is 50% off for their evening and late night happy hours. - The Jalapeno Au Gratin could use more jalapeno, the asparagus side dish could use the larger asparagus instead of the smaller version, and the black truffle mac and cheese could be infused with more truffle flavor, perhaps in using more truffle salt or truffle oil. Overall, go here for a treat to yourself while relaxing with friends or colleagues in a sophisticated ambiance. The attentive service makes it appropriate for a special occasion, whether professional or romantic, and they seem like would get to know regulars on a first name basis. This will certainly be the place to go for high-end, reasonably-priced cocktails ($10) and small plates ($10) during happy hour. Worth a visit. read more

If I want Ocean Prime, I will wait until I go to Miami. I will never eat here again. I rented a private room here. All of my guest weren't able to make it because some of them were stuck in Miami. The managers and event coordinator had no consideration and still charged me the total amount. They literally forced me to spend $2k. They told me I had to purchase $900 worth of alcohol (and I don't even drink) or lose it. WOW....never again. read more

I don't usually post reviews because my taste may be different from others; however, I find I have to make an exception for Ocean Prime. We arrived early for our 5:30 reservation in order to have a cocktail at the bar. Alejandro prepared a Sazerac (barrel aged) that rivaled the Sazerac Bar in New Orleans. The restaurant uses Hudson Bay Baby Bourbon. Dinner was a true dining experience. Chambalee (our server) knew the menu and steered us adroitly. She alerted me to a special sushi that was not on the menu and was a cornucopia of flavor. Of course, they are known for their fish. The Sea Bass and blackened grouper did not disappoint. As an extra treat, Alejandro sent his special margarita to our table for us to enjoy. This restaurant belongs in Tom Sietsma's (food critic for the Washington Post) list of top DC places to enjoy. When we left at 7:30, the restaurant was full-corroboration of the great job they do. Tell Diamond, the manager, that you want Chamblee to be your server and have a drink with Alejandro at the bar. Our daughter booked a reservation at this restaurant to celebrate our anniversary. We could not have been more pleased. The staff welcomed us warmly and our waiter, Emmanuel, was impeccable in his attention to our needs during the dinner. The food was simply incredible. My lovely wife thoroughly enjoyed the lobster tails and especially the bubbly berry. I enjoyed a perfectly prepared and presented Chilean sea bass. This might very well become an annual destination for our anniversary. read more

One of the best dining experiences I've had in DC in all my years living here. All five people at the table loved their meals, and we even ordered seconds on the side dishes because they were so good (Gouda tater tots-amazing.) The atmosphere is calm with great decor. I went to Ocean Prime for a birthday dinner. I was referred & it was everything that I was told. The atmosphere was nice & classy. The service was A1 and everyone was so nice. Our waiter was the best; he made sure to explain everything, continued to check on us & made sure my friends birthday was extra special. The food was amazing; We had the crab cakes & the filet Mignon. The only thing I didn't care for was the corn sauce under the crab cakes once & of course my waiter made sure the kitchen took care of that. I was a happy camper at Ocean Prime. This is a must for a nice night out. It can be on the pricy side so be prepared. But it is worth the money; the food, service & atmosphere is class A. read more

place is not worth the hype and is overpriced. ordered the king salmon and was disappointed. it was a piece of salmon in a bowl of tomato soup. a great piece of fish shouldn't need to be completely smothered in sauce and broth. the calamari was more breading than meat. the cream spinach was way too cheesy. the bill was about 1000 dollars for 7 people and we didn't get desert. read more

Ocean Prime seemed a bit overrated! I definitely expected more considering the price of food and ambiance. The highlight of my experience there was sitting at the bar and they served popcorn as bar snack. I love popcorn!My French martini was good. Service was okay at first Reggie being our server. Service seemed rushed. I ordered French martini at the table tasted different then the one I ordered at the bar. Caesar salad was okay I ordered pan sea scallops I wasn't impressed they were okay. The main issue was we had a party of 8 we were told over the phone that it was possible for separate checks and gratuity. After dinner we were told we have to do one bill. We asked to speak to manager Tim who wasn't friendly just plain rude he didn't apologize and in so many words said we knew what we order and how much it cost so pretty much do it ourselves. Our server Reggie offered no help so we had by ourselves to split 8 checks with items we had plus tax and gratuity which was time consuming and also Reggie job. Reggie got $152 of gratuity that he didn't fully deserve. I will never eat at Ocean Prime ever again. Not worth the money!! read more

Very nice decor and layout in this restaurant. The food is very good, but the main entree seafood menu for lunch is limited. I ordered the snapper and shared a side of black truffle mac and cheese and jalapeno au gratin. We also had the crab cake as an appetizer. Can't say anything bad about the food. Honestly something I've never seen and I've worked in the restaurant industry. I also never post but I'm so amazed. We were told 15 minutes and waited about an hour. I asked whether we would be seated and with no apology she said let me check. I pushed and she said oh we can seat you now. We were walked past the table because it was dirty and taken to another table. We sat down hoping we would finally get to order and relax and guess what the menu was missing the food menu page. The service was lacking and the food was not that great. I ordered Chilean sea bass, but received cod or some other type of fish. The servers were very slow and inattentive. The salads were not delicious at the same time ...they were 10-15 mins apart. It took over 15!mins to get our check after requesting it. Although I was very disappointed with the Ocean Prime DC location, the berries and bubbles drink was still good. I do not recommend this restaurant...maybe they are too new or the staff inexperienced or short of staff that night. read more

Love Ocean Prime, but just a little history about the building it is in. Always wondered why this building called Colorado building, built by James Walsh, Irish immigrant came over late 1800's to seek his fortune in CO gold rush. Quite a story, hit 2nd biggest gold mine in CO history, overnight one of richest men in US and celebrity. Moved to DC with daughter Evelyn and builds most expensive home at the time on DuPont Circle. Builds CO building around 1905 and becomes lobbyist. His daughter went from living in rough mining camp situation to one of the biggest socialites in America. She love diamonds, buys from Pierre Cartier himself and purchases the most famous diamond of all, the Hope diamond. The legend of the diamond being cursed was somewhat true for her, she lost both children young and her husband( I believe his name was John of the wealthy McLean family) died in an insane asylum. Very sad, but she did great charity work as well, and after her death, Harry Winston purchased the Hope and donated to Smithsonian a few years later. I used to entertain large groups at the previous restaurant, loved telling that story about how Evelyn Walsh entertained in the building, always wore the Hope diamond. Now it sits not too far away in the Smithsonian. Still the most desired thing to see by tourists when they are asked what they want to see at museum. read more

Went for a work lunch for my 15 year anniversary. Ordered Jumbo Lump crab cake at $19 and house salad. Salad was fine but the crab cake was an embarrassment. Backfin meat, not a lump of crab to be found. Overcooked on the side they put in sauce, to hide the overbrowned part I suppose. As it was a work lunch I did not want to make a fuss but if it had been on my dime I would have sent that crabcake back in a heart beat. You want a true lump crab cake go to Joes Seafood on 15th street. $5 dollars cheaper and with real lumps. To be fair the chocolate peanut butter pie was really good. The service was good too, except not bringing me a pretzel roll after being told twice it was on the way to have with my salad. Won't be back, too many other good places in the area. read more

If I was able to rate this with no stars that would have been a plus!! But where do I start....I made a reservation at this restaurant for New Year's Eve for me and my husband to enjoy dinner and bring in the new year. We had a reservation for 10:45pm. The day of I received a call confirming reservation time and to inform me that they provide a 15min grace period after that they seat the next guest. At 1045pm my husband drops me off at the front door of the restaurant only to be told that the restaurant wasn't accepting any guest doors are closing. That night I went to one of my favorite spots Old Edditt and brought in the new year. On my birthday 1/27 my husband had reservations, arrived on time and was seated on time. My waiter was excellent her service was impeccable. My husband crab cakes were okay Mac and cheese lobster so so, my filet minion was not cooked to my liking and it had no flavor at All!! I remember paying an extra $5-10 bucks for sauce to flavor the meat which was a waste of money. My dessert recommended by my waiter was like the best they had to offer there. I can honestly say IF I return I will try the bar and have drinks and maybe that Reese's kinda dessert I had on my birthday. read more

I was treated to happy hour here on my birthday 2- weeks ago with a special friend. Everything was right with this place as we sat at the bar. I have visited this restaurant four times and always sat at the bar. Had lunch there 6/23/2017. I continue to be underwhelmed. The bar service staff move like a glacier. Multi-tasking is not their forte. As in past visits I waited 15 minutes after sitting at the bar to be asked if I would like a beverage. Food is average, pricing is above-average. If this place endures the competitive business they're in I'll be surprised. read more

Starting with the positives, we had a lovely server and sommelier (Patrick). They were both fabulous and by far the highlight to what was otherwise an overpriced and mediocre meal. I had been there before and ordered appetizers, all of which were good, which is why I was so disappointed with this meal. Our table of three ordered the salmon, Chilean sea bass, and one other fish. The salmon didn't taste fresh; the sea bass was so-so and my husband was content with his choice. It was my boyfriends birthday and i made special note in the reservation of this. it started off okay. We ordered 3 appetizers, the calamari, the prime roll and lobster roll. all of these were really good, my favorite was the calamari. But now it starts to go down hill...we were about to eat the last of the prime roll but there was a long hair on it. We tracked down our waiter and he took it away. Then 35min later, our main dishes came out. Someone, not our waiter, placed the dishes in front of us and walked away. I went to reposition the plate and the plate WAS SCOLDING HOT! No one had said anything to me!! Typically a patron is warned when the plate is hot! I started crying and had to go to the bathroom to run cold water over my fingers, it was that hot and hurt that bad! I finally returned to tried my crab cakes, and to be honest i was disappointed. First, it was so hot that i could taste anything. When it cooled, i realized i couldn't taste much because there was no flavor. I've had better crab cakes from the Harris Teeter grocery store, so that was pretty pathetic - $39 for bland crab cakes. i said something to our waiter about the plate temp and he said " Oh sorry, i'm glad ur feeling better". So by this time it's already been 1.5 hrs since we first sat down..service was slow! we had to rush to make it to a show i just gave the guy my credit card. I later realized that they did credit us for the sushi that had hair in it. But i realized that nothing was said about the birthday..i would have expected maybe a complimentary glass of champagne or maybe a little dessert, but nothing. So all in all, this was is way too hyped and i was very disappointed. I will not be recommending this to family or friends and i will not be returning in the future. read more

Sharp dining room, strong dishes, good vibe, and friendly service--and getting better every week. I admit to doubts when I heard we'd be getting another steak-seafood place next door on 14th & G downtown, but I got intrigued as the makeover to the old Ceiba progressed as I walked by each day--hip hints of Vegas and NYC extending out into the sidewalk in those distinctive window booths. Having now wined and dined a dozen or so times since opening, I'm happy to extend a hearty welcome to this great spot. Favorites include the sushi, lamb, lobster bisque and Malbecs. And the bar: great tenders, spectacular space--snag the back corner looking out over the scene inside and outside the restaurant through the window booths. On my wish-list is more live music, and keep working on timing to go with that friendly service. Thanks for the great visits thus far, and cheers to many ahead. read more

Dined at this location a couple of times, loved it both times, this week prior to seeing Herbie Hancock. Great service here, loved Kiwi A. who is so delightful, her smile lights up the room. She and another checked on us frequently (but not too often) . My friend and I had a great seat near the bar at the window, very comfortable and great for people-watching if you're into that. We had land and sea, including very tasty lamb lollipops, split a big filet Mignon, perfectly cooked at rare+ (!) and jumbo scallops. Only critique is my foodie friend thought the Oysters Rockefeller were over-salted and a bit overstuffed, but that's not something I would usually get. Anywhere I can get land and sea this consistently great with friendly, on-the-mark service and a gorgeous interior. What can I say, I'm just freakin' happy. Top it off with: they make some kick-ass martinis, with blue cheese olives... yum.. The bartenders here know what they are doing! Wonderful. Thank you. read more

A few friends and I visited Ocean Prime for a birthday celebration. We had two extra people that wanted to join us and when we asked the waitress she was willing to accommodate the extra guest. Then one of the managers came over and was very rude while explaining why you should make reservations for the appropriate amount of people. We were really shocked because the waitress didn't voice a concern when we asked her. The food was absolutely amazing!! We had crab cakes, lamb chops and the blacked snapper over the cornbread and it all was delicious. I will definitely visit again. read more

I have visited ocean prime on 3 different occasions within the month of February. The first visit was a Sunday evening ( Mellow and quiet) , 2nd visit the Saturday before Valentine's day ( Busy, packed, if no reservations pretty much out of luck) , and a random Thursday night (mellow, and quiet). The service all three times was outstanding. The Saturday before valentine's day my spouse & I decided to just go, no reservations. Well when we got there, we were told they were booked for the night but within a few minutes later the manager (Forgot his name, tall, slim guy) accommodated my spouse and I. It was wonderful. With it being crazy that night the service was great. The food, hasn't disappoint us yet. The calamari, is like no other; the salmon, sea bass, crab cake, lobster mash potatoes, mac & cheese all delicious. We will be back for more. read more

Two colleagues and I had a team lunch here. We were looking for a quality and reasonably priced burger at a nice restaurant. Just walked out. Went for drinks at bar after work (but probably would have stayed for dinner) and sat at corner furthest from door but closest to the front. Sat down to a bunch of dirty dishes which weren't cleared for 10 minutes. Gentleman finally cleared and said he would be right back. He wasn't. Totally ignored for 20 minutes while we watched bar staff joke around w each other, flirt w patrons, laugh, joke, and generally have a blast while ignoring us completely. At this price point that is absolutely unacceptable. As we left I told hostess why we were leaving and she asked me to wait for a bar manager to "make it right." I waited another 5 minutes and no one appeared. I agree with the reviewer that said it all: "Never again." read more

I had the most divine experience at Ocean Prime, Washington, DC, my server was THE BEST she was very knowledgeable concerning what is offered as well as she knew when to come and not overcrowd us as we finished our meals. The food was so awesome, that my taste buds were dancing and bursting with flavor during and AFTER I left the restaurant I have found another favorite place to dine 5 star. my opinion of Ocean Prime gets 5 stars and two thumbs up read more
