I was referred to Ocean Shores Kites from a trusted source. I had visited the store several years back and had found several items I like. This time when I went, I was fine within the store itself. I purchase several items, including an item on sale - over $100 off. I left after a fun (I thought) and successful experience. Several days later, I was reviewing the receipt, and noticed two things. I didn't receive the sale price for the kite I purchased, and I was charged an Obnoxious C fee of $19.99 (or thereabouts; I've thrown away the receipt). Since it's a several hour drive for me to go there, it's not worth it to go back. I am still unsure of why I was charged the Obnoxious Customer fee, let alone not getting the sales price. I didn't swear at anyone or throw any fit. I am autistic and I know that my behavior is not always viewed by others as I view it. I spent 4 figures in the shop though, and to see this on the receipt makes the shop one that I don't fee safe in. I highly recommend that you spend your money somewhere else; especially if you are also neurodivergent. read more

I've been dealing with this kite shop for about 20 years now. I've purchased just about every one of my kites from here. I have watched the store grow to add additional locations and square footage. they continue to impress me every time I visit. I've gotten to know the owner, Andy, over my time dealing with his wonderful store. He is always very helpful and willing to go the extra mile for whatever the customer needs. Not just for me, but for every single customer who walks through his doors. I've visited other kite shops, and yes, they have kites. Some of them even have the same kites as this store. But they do not have the staff that this store has, and they do not have Andy. The staff here have a true passion for kite flying, not just for kite sales, but for the actual sport of kite flying. They are knowledgeable about the products they sell, how they work and how to get the best out of them. I've even had Andy meet me on the beach to not only dial in my new kite, but to teach me how to dial it in myself for when the wind changes next time. I stumbled upon this place because it was Easter and they happened to be open. I had called serval places prior and either no answer (assumed they were closed) or they were rude because it was also 4pm. But Orchid nail answered and was so friendly on the phone. I came in and was serviced quickly. They do the wax and the hot stones for pedicures as well as have you pick out your scent for the pedicure. The staff is super friendly. They had dip powder which is a huge plus for me. My dip powder manicure lasted 3 weeks! (My nails grow slow) They made me a mimosa which was just a great bonus. And I got a shoulder rub down and wax treatment on my hands which I had never had before. This is my new go to place. read more

There are two ocean shores kites store, this one is the main store, it carries large competition kites, advanced kites, and unique items. We dropped by on the way to the 2011 Kite Challenge, I thought it was going to be an overpriced tourist trap, but I was wrong. This place has so much kite selections, they carried large competition kites to beginners kites and kiddie kites. Their kites are reasonably priced. Also, they don't just sell kites, they sell other cool play things. For example, they have a whole wall of rubber band guns. I had a lot of fun browsing through their merchandises. Great selection of kites, friendly and knowledgeable customer service, and reasonable prices combine for a solid five star experience here at Ocean Shores Kites. I am not the most storied kite enthusiast but I've been a stunt kite flyer for years. On a recent trip to the coast I was looking to upgrade to a parafoil and needed some help doing so. The staff here was easily able to help me understand the various steering options (2-string vs. 4-string), size options, use-cases, and the like. And most importantly, not in a way that made me feel like an idiot for not knowing the first bit about this stuff. She walked me through my plans for future kiting, where I was planning to fly, how I might progress in my hobby, and then was able to recommend to me a couple of options in both 2- and 4-string models. Bonus points for pointing me toward sale kites and best deals for my use - not just pushing the more expensive models to make an extra buck. I walked out with a 2.2m 2-string parafoil that dragged me around the beach the next morning, much to my delight. It was exactly what I was looking for. Beyond parafoils they have a tremendous selection of stunt kites, boards, skim boards, single-line kites, pinwheels, and then a bunch of toys like rubber band guns. Easily a stop both for a casual family affair or a more serious kite flyer. So glad this wasn't a bullshit tourist trap. The Oregon and Washington coasts abound with those. The woman that helped my boyfriend & I pick out kites was amazing! She was super helpful in every aspect. We bought our kites & went to the beach to fly them & mine was ripped so it wasn't flying correctly. My boyfriend was worried because we didn't have our receipt. The lady was super hassle free & let me pick out a different kite that I wanted & gave us back the difference. All in all, we had a great experience here. I was absolutely impressed by the customer service we received at this shop. Not only did the staff offer help and suggestions, but they also showed us how to put together the item we chose, and gave us a great deal of information on how to fly it! I had no idea sport kites were so difficult to fly, but thanks to these guys, I feel like I've got a handle on it (pun intended.) the kites were a bit pricey, as you would expect, but we found a nice little two-line sport kite on sale for a great deal. We came to Ocean Shores for the weekend not really knowing what to expect. With such a fantastic beach, but nasty rips and cold water, the best thing to do is fly kites. Fortunately, Ocean Shores Kites is there to help. I haven't really flown a kite since my childhood, and my kids have always struggled with my attempts to get them interested - flying a stunt kite sounds sooo cool, and although it's not hard, it does take a little perseverance before you really get the feel for the stability and balance of a kite. Fortunately these guys have an incredible range of kites for every kind of amateur, and are very helpful and friendly. They also had some real monsters that we could aspire to in the future, including kites for boarding and some kind of three-wheeled trolley thing for riding on the beach. You can spend anything from $10 to several hudreds on a kite here. We left with three different sizes of stunt kite, and a simple little kite for our littlest. On the beach that afternoon, we all quickly got the hang of things and soon our kites were zooming around like we'd been doing it for years. Thanks for a great weekend! read more

Great shop with tons of selection. We have now bought 5 kites there and have been very happy. If you need a repair of any kind these guys can do it for you and the service is darn good as well. We have 3 of the HQ symphony "trick" kites that cost about 70.00 (they have much less or more expensive kites too) The HQ kites are super easy to use and practically indestructible, no need to have someone launch it for you, great for someone looking for more than just a regular kite but at the same time not looking for something that has much of a learning curve or expensive repair costs. read more

It's a very large selection of kites for all ages and skill levels and everything you need to go with them! The staff are always nice and helpful too! While I'm nowhere near the level as those stunt guys (I like the birds I can just send up and be on "auto pilot" while admiring them from below with a drink!!) Ocean shores kites was a wonderful and unexpected shop. Went in with our friends just to look around and came out with a potential new hobby. I was very intrigued by the otter kite (it was actually a graphic of an otter), but settled on a beginner stunt kite, first kite I have had in 36 years and a whole lotta fun. The staff, (seemed like the owner) was very helpful and super funny. For literally not knowing ANYTHING about kites we got a whole set up, got schooled, and left with a bag O'fun in under 30 minutes and UNDER $30. He was experienced, fair priced, great for kids activities - he went ABOVE AND BEYOND to get us all set up with new kites, show us how to set up (with 'on the beach' details), dropped in several freebies and upgraded a $6 wind sock with a rod and hook for our toddlers stroller. We came to get a simple kite for my 6 year old. We chose what turned out to be a stunt kite that was completely inappropriate for us. You'd think the owner would have said...do you have any experience with a duel line kite...but no. She showed us how to put it together and tie a knot but getting to the ocean and trying it was not successful. I feel the right thing to do would have been to say something to the customer about age appropriateness or level of experience. I should add I'm 31 and couldn't get it up. When I went to return it after a bad time at the beach I was informed that my 30.00 kite was not returnable. There was nothing on the receipt stating their policy and nothing posted on the wall. It was written in multi color marker on a 3x5 card that is not noticeable with all the other papers surrounding it. The owner was unapologetic and smug. I am a small business owner and for it being a small tourist town I would expect better. read more

We went to Ocean Shores for 4th of July weekend. My 10 year old son wanted to look at trick kites. We went to Ocean Shores Kites to look. Everyone there was so helpful and honest. They actually told us not to buy the really expensive kite, that it was not a starter kite. They showed us the beginner trick kites, which were much cheaper, and explained the differences between all of them. My son found one he wanted and they explained everything to him. No pressure, just great information and so helpful! We will definitely be buying our kites there from now on! read more
