My dog stroller had a flat caused by a hole in the tube. The owner had it fixed in 5 minutes, checked the air in all tires and unloaded and loaded it back into my car.He and his family were friendly as well! My bike tire had a slow leak, and I realized that it was going flat. We had just ridden past the Prom Bike Shop, so we turned back. The owner, who struck me as a very knowledgeable and experienced bike mechanic, replaced the tube while giving some history of the bike shop community in Seaside. We were so pleased with the service and that our day of riding our bikes on the Promenade was saved! This is a business fast approaching three generations that own not only the business but the land it sits on. They rent bikes of all sorts and configurations and greet each customer with warmth and respect. A local business that deserves support. read more

What a nice family business to patronize! The choices in bikes is amazing with a broad range in prices, features and brands. I am a short man that had not ridden a bike in 50 years. Being difficult to find the right fit, Debbie showed me all her options and offered test rides. This service was most helpful and I purchased a great bike with a unique design that will allow me to be able to plant my feet while seated. Something I never ever could do as a youngster. When rain and wind were predicted for our Seaside vacation, we decided not to bring our own bikes but play it by ear when we were there. Thankfully, the sun came out and Prom Bike Shop was ready and helpful in getting us on wheels. A call in advance secured us a reservation, but in late September, the shop had plenty of units available, and we ultimately chose two hybrid Giant bikes that turned out perfectly for a ride around Tillamook and Cape Meares, including on gravel out the Bayocean Spit. The rental was easy, flexible, reasonably priced, and accompanied by our really pleasant interaction with the owners -- the second generation owning this family-owned small shop, with the third in the wings. If you want an actual bicycle for riding around Seaside -- mountain, gravel, or beach -- this is really the only place in town to consider. And I would bet they're competitive and easy to deal with for bicycle-adjacent devices with 3, 4, or who knows how many wheels, two ;-) read more

There are a ton of bike rental places in Seaside, but this one is a little off the beaten path. It's run by a super friendly gentleman who explained everything we needed to know and sent us on our way. Our four-person surrey was super cute and in perfect condition! BEWARE! When your bike breaks down they won't come help you no matter how far away you are!! I rented 7 fun cycles from this shop. 10 mins into our rental the first bike broke down, about 3/4 of a mile from the shop. I called and asked if I could get a pick up so I didn't have to drag my fun cycle back. The owner told me sorry but I'm helping a customer and the other guy is busy. So my family goes on with their ride and I spend the next 30 mins dragging this broken bike back. I get back and ask to use the restroom to clean the grease from my hands. The owner said the bathroom was for employees only but did offer to spray some green spray from a bottle on the workbench with no way to rinse it. I get my new bike and catch back up with my family to find my daughters bike chain had come off along with my wife's. I was able to repair my daughters bike but not my wife's same issue as mine (bad teeth on the sprocket) At this point we were close to 2 miles from the shop. I called and asked that they come get their broken bike as I didn't think we needed to be left stranded and dragging a bike through the sand for the second time. The owner refused to come get the bikes saying they rode their bikes to work today. While dealing with the owner she was a very bitter old woman that was rude and acted like it was an outrageous request to help a stranded customer. I called back a second time expressing that this horrible service was unacceptable and she needed to come get her bike. She again refused. We decided to be the better person and just return the bikes and get on with our day. I always go out of my way to support small business but the level of service you will receive is comparable to a big corporate chain store. For all our troubles she did offer to give me a $10 refund. I laughed and left. We had the fun cycles for 1.5 hrs and during that time we got about 15 mins of fun the rest of the time we were either trying to fix a broken bike or dragging one. I get that bikes break down, they are abused daily by tourist but this business has no support system to help their customers when it happens and that's just silly. It goes without saying the bikes were not properly cared for and rather than PM their bikes they just wait for the customer to experience a breakdown. 3 out 7 broken bikes is pretty sad. Save yourself the hassle and do business with the other shop in town. read more

This was a great place to get our bikes repaired. I even bought a new one and donated my old one to local kids.

I have only been here once. I was on a bike tour of the Oregon coast. I was having derailleur problems so I stopped in here. The owner gave me a locked, secure place to stow my bike trailer and belongings, bumped me to second on the repair docket since they knew I was trying to get to Nehalem Bay that day, and adjusted the derailleur as best as it could go, telling me the parts were fundamentally incompatible, which I later had corroborated by two other shops in the following week when the problem came up again. If I had had the funds right there I would have had them fix it properly, but I was charged a small amount and was sent on my way. I was very well treated here and will visit again in the future if I have bike needs in Seaside. read more

We're developing electric bikes, and I live in Cannon Beach, OR, and have found that driving the 7 plus miles to get excellent service is worth it! Just yesterday I had a flat on one of our test e-bikes and had no spare tubes on me, and as we were doing some testing over the weekend timeliness was of essence, I drove over to Seaside before they were open and saw Andy in the parking lot, putting out their fleet of rental bikes. As soon as he opened the doors for business he popped our e-bike up on his stand and skillfully and quickly changed my flat, not taking a beat, even though our e-bike has a shaft drive rather than a conventional chain. In a matter of minutes he had me taken care of and on my way. We have a choice of bike shops in the area, including in Cannon Beach, but I place a premium on a bike shop that places customer service, courtesy, and a friendly attitude as high on the list as excellent knowledge and skills; Prom Bike Shop scores high in my book in all categories! read more

Came in mid-coastal tour with a broken spoke and a tire that was getting multiple flats a day. They were able to help me out day-of (approx 3 hour wait - reasonable, as they were quite busy.) They gave us a place to stash our bikes and gear safely while we went and had lunch. One guy was friendly. The others, not so much. They fixed the spoke (rear wheel, drive side) and replaced the tube for a very reasonable price. The did not find the cause of the flat - fair enough, I suppose. It took two more flats to find it on my own (the tiniest piece of wire lodged in the wheel.) However! A few months later I'm doing some work on the wheel, and go to take off the rear freewheel. Nothing. Stuck. Try again. Three spokes break. One last try before I call the wheel toast, and it finally comes unstuck (a few more spokes broken in the process). I'd never had trouble removing the freewheel in the past. The threads were dry as a bone - mechanic clearly didn't grease before reinstalling. So that was a pain. All in all. Ehhh... But considering the lack of bike mechanics on the coastal route, I'll take what I can get. read more

Wow! Maybe he just forgot to take his pills. First he said he would not work on ebikes. I told him it was just the front wheel that was wobbly. He told me it was the tire. As I started to tell him that the tire had recently been replaced he walked away and said "I won't work with someone who doesn't believe me." I just wanted the tire fixed. He was suppose to be the expert but I really think he just didn't know what to do. I have biked all over and regularly commute to and from work via bike. I have been in dozens of bike shops and almost always come away with a good experience. All I can say to the Prom Bike Shop is "thank you very little." read more

We often rent bikes in cities that we visit. This shop's rental equipment was far better-- both in terms of quality and level of maintenance-- than any shop I've experienced before. Ken's passion for cycling and for sharing this interest with others adds icing to the cake. My only regret is that this shop isn't in Portland. If it was It would be the shop I would take our bikes for their twice-yearly tune-ups. Ken says he has regular customers from both Portland & Salem who take the time to drive out whenever they need repairs. After our experience with this fine shop I can see why. read more

I was shown bikes that were suited to my particular needs with absolutely no pushing towards high end models. Their friendliness was genuine as was the care they took with making sure I found a bike that would really suit my needs. I tried out several and found the bike of my dreams. I'd shopped around at other places in the county and on the internet, but no place made me feel as confident and as valued as the Prom Bike Shop. I went home with not just a sweet ride, but with the knowledge that I have people in my corner who will be there to support me with excellent service in the future. Nearly a week after I bought my bike I met one of the owners at the grocery store. He greeted me and asked how I was doing and gave me good advice with an adjustment question. We rented 2 beach riders from this place. The price was right ($10 each for 1.5 hours), but the bikes were not very functional. The wheel fell off one after about 15 minutes of riding on the beach. We had to make our way back to the shop to get pieces that were missing (mediocre customer-service attitude). But, it was super easy to go in and rent, we filled out minimal paper work, and the beach bikes were lots of fun, even if old and kind of rusty. read more
