This ocean state job lot is located in the Fellsway Plaza. It's been there for a while. I go in every once in a while when I feel like wasting a little time in the food aisles. They have a great selection of eccentric foods. You can find a lot of things here at a big discount or just a selection of items that you don't see anywhere else. They have a good selection of cat products at a great price. Always frequent their Christmas section approximately mid November because they put out a nice section, but it disappears quickly. They have some great programs. They also have an eat for free program. A special table usually has a dozen or two items on it and if you buy them whatever it costs they give you a gift card for the exact same amount of money. I think it's just a way for them not to throw things away pretty cool. Every once in a while, you can get lucky and they'll be a good product on the eat for free table. The store isn't as clean as you would want it to be, but it is a warehouse type location and they don't have many people working there for such a big store. It's a huge plaza. With job market being so challenging it is extra tough to get reliable, pleasant, customer friendly workers. Several of the management has longevity which makes it reassuring to shop there. For the most part the cashiers are nice and helpful. Everyone is picking up slack for labor shortage. I hope top level mgt gives extra compensation to retain who they have. On 7/1/23 bought a swimming pool for $ 1200.00 for fourth of July party .pool states 60 minutes to put together .well the one I bought is missing parts that hold rail system together.and the liner is full of defects .call store first thing next day.spoke to manager said I was bringing pool back for a refund .was told once the box is opened it's now your problem .No Refund . Want to give this Ocean State 4 stars but I just cant... This is one of the larger & Cleaner ones I have visited... Its located in the Old Stop & Shop in Medford... They have everything you can imagine & quite an extensive food & spice selection... Prices are a little higher then I would love & it seems everytimg I go there they are out of what I went there for... I read flyers weekly & will catch something here or there that I want/need & then when I go they always seem to have "Just" sold out (according to the sales people I speak with)... They could have more registers open at times, seems Im always waiting in long lines... Definitely worth a trip you WILL find a great deal on somthing... Just gotta look around for it! read more

I'll start off with we spend lots of money at job lot. We found solar lights there for the tops of wooden fence post and they looked great for a out two weeks then slowly one by one they just stopped working. This had all within a month. They didn't even come close to lasting the summer season. Less than thirty days you should be able to return them. By no they wouldn't take them back. On top of this disappointment after buying 24 lights to complete the fence. Which is 208 dollars of crappy product. The person who I'm amusing was a manager in Hyannis was more interested in his phone than us. We will no long spend are mo ey at ocen state job lot. read more

I went to this location to make a return. The product was in the box, I had my receipt and credit card it was purchased, purchased exactly one week prior, and I even spoke to the "manager" about the situation. He came out of the store saying he would not return it. I asked him why and he told me the box was opened. I told him the bottom was sold to my wife as is. I never even took the wrapping off it. It was damaged and I wanted an exchange. What a jerk of a manager. Rude and unresponsive. I've been a retail manager for 30 years and never came across such an irresponsible manager. If your not going to listen to your customer, you won't have any to listen to. I would not want this manager representing my company. I read the return policy and I was in my rights to return! I love the store. I can usually find what I need. And have plenty of stock to pick from. Cloths, coats, food and wine, supplies, cook and bakeware household items , shovel. To much to list. My family resides in Fitchburg MA, we often visit the Leominster location of OSJL(Ocean State Job Lot). The manager and staff at this location have always been friendly and its manager goes above and beyond for his customers. He is charismatic, hard working and kind. Today I needed to purchase area rugs for our severe sensory reactive children. Their conditions warrant a very soft rug. Sadly we could not find a rug that fit this need at the Leominster location today. As i was looking i left several rugs out and walked around the more expensive rugs with the intention of returning the rolled discount rugs located in the carpet racks back to their spots. The very helpful manager of this location even came over and started to put them away for us. I felt bad and explained we were going to place them back ourselves but he is just that helpful! I also watched him in line accomodate and honor an advertised sale $100 crazy deal card on an awning purchase. He was very sympathetic to the customer in front of me and helped her/ her husband accordingly. Now, in stark contrast.. My family traveled to the Gardner location right afterwards to search for a rug there. Again i went to the back standing rugs sale section as we are on a pretty limited income to be honest living paycheck to paycheck. Anyways, our daughter found a 5X8 $36 carpet she liked, and my son found a 5X7 carpet with no price on it that he liked. Now, let me set the stage for you. In leominster they keep the bargain carpets together by size and price. All of the 4X6 are $20 in the racks, 5X8 are $36, 6X9 are $42 and so forth. Generally it seems that all of the costlier rugs are kept out of the racks and actually laid out in the middle of the sales floor on tables instead. Gardner seems to have a similar model EXCEPT they had more costly rugs mixed into their for sale rack rugs apparantly. This unknown to me until now. So the rug my daughter picked and the rug my son picked were both in the same stand up rack area not to mention the rug that would be in question (my sons) also had another of the exact same rug in that group as well. Anyways, we get up front and my sons rug rings up at $80 over double what i had thought I would be paying. The cashier was very courteous and when i told him that there were more of this carpet in the same rack he called over to "Ricky" (id rather call him Dicky) whom was near the registers in the first isle. Ricky dearest gave the most unenergetic reaction to being called with an annoyed disinterested expression on his face. Ricky came over and i explained the situation. i even tried to crack a joke with him and he was not amused. When i asked him could he honor the prices of the other rugs it was with, instead of a polite no thank you mame he replied "no i cant do that" and trust me there was no apologetic tone. His tone was that of i cant believe your asking that. I had people behind me waiting and i was embarrassed. I started stating well i was just at the leominster location and happen to know how they usually handle customers and also pointed out ive been in managment in retail myself. He continued to act like as if what i had asked was ridiculous. I then had to blantantly ask him to please move out of the way so i could turn my cart around and return to the rug dept as he was blocking me. I walked back with my two littles in tow embarrassed as heck, not knowing he was actually following me back as well. when he got there he started speaking to me aggressively stating "what signs are you talking about there are no signs!" I told him, exactly thats my point! i never said there were any signs for the rugs in the stands I said that this particular rug was in with the 5X8 sizes so i thought it was the same price especially since there was more then one and pretty much the same size. He started to say no there are a bunch of dif prices ... see that one is $20 right there. I looked and realized he was pointing out a 4X6 rug and I flat out told him, yes because thats a 4X6. All of them are the same price just like all of these 5X8 are the same price $36. he then say s again yes but that one is a 5X7. I looked at him dumbfounded and said yes i see that but figured it was grouped in with these because they are close in size. If its a more expensive rug then why are you not removing them right now from this rack so your not confusing your customers? They dont even have a price on them so your going to run into this again. In his rude tone he started to say something else but with my health issues i need to keep my blood pressure down so i decided to just tell him forget about it. He said something in his rude tone and stormed off, did not catch what. Sure enough did not take those carpets out either so future customers do not come across this problem. I was looking for a place to grab dinner, when I drove past Ocean State Job Lot with a Grand Opening sign out front. From the name it wasn't clear to me what kind of store it was. I am sure there is a story behind the name but I didn't know it. The Ocean State Job Lot is located in a large building next to a strip mall. When I walked in I realized it was some sort of discount store. The carts were so hopelessly stuck together that I opted for a small basket. They have a strange selection here, menswear mixed in with mostly off brand electronics, toys, holiday stuff, tools, and activewear. They have a "designer" menswear section but I have never heard of David Chu. If you are the type of person who regularly shines and cares for your shoes they have a decent selection of shoe care items. They have random shades of shoe polish, like Cordovan and neutral but it's cheap. I buy my shoe shine brushes here. Maybe shoe shining is a lost art, but I like my kicks to be gleaming. They sell mink oil, but don't buy it because it has silicone in it which will ruin your leather. The food section was stocked with gourmet and health food items for insanely low prices. They had things like organic juices, healthy snack food, gluten-free products, and fancy condiments all at low prices. This place is kind of a cheap foodies dream. When you check out the bags they give you is always from another store, they must buy bags lots from other places. This place is a little quirky, but the prices are good. Ocean State Job Lot was seriously great when we needed a ton of last minute household odds and ends before a housewarming party. I've never had two bathrooms before, so the guest bathroom was looking a little... empty. And we were broke, because, yanno, just bought a house. $10 later -- a guest bathroom that actually looked usable! I highly recommend just taking a look around after grocery shopping. Lots of weird odds and ends, "just fell off the truck" sales, random assortment of junk. A "deal" can be found here, not without risk. Most all items are a type of closeout or overstock. Food may regularly be out of date, with rancid and nasty tasting chips /oils. I am eating some organic chips now that just taste fowl. Date code, one month AGO expired. You get lucky on some items, yes! I bought FOUR hose nozzles for $14 each and all four failed within months. You should never come to the Job Lot looking for anything in particular, because they probably won't have it. Just walk up and down the aisles, wide-eyed and open-minded, and you will find things you didn't even know you wanted. Are you, like my wife, obsessed with makeup but hate spending a lot of money on it? Come here and find things that were discontinued months ago. My wife once found a discontinued nail polish for like a dollar that she assures me was selling on eBay for several million. I need a camera tripod. They don't carry those any more, but they did when I didn't want one. Least snowy winter in Massachusetts since Pangaea broke up? Of course they are carrying snowshoes and shovels. We read over a month ago that they will soon be carrying Biscoff Cookie Spread, which is delicious. So of course, amongst their giant selection of rare and imported candies, cookies, snacks and spreads, Biscoff is nowhere to be found. You will, however, find a can of mushrooms big enough to fit a human head (hypothetically), pet beds, axes, kayaks and oh so many Snuggies. I got the chills as I was nearing and when I parked I actually screamed in my car, "eeee! I'm so excited!!!" I've tried hard to stay far away from this new Job Lot in the area, I've tried really hard until yesterday. #fail I've noticed that all Job Lot customers do that aimless gaze at items and walk slow, not realizing what is going on and what they're looking at and what they want. Yup, that was me yesterday looking at the useless stuff. I generally hate people like that, but over the many years as a Job Lot customer in South Yarmouth on 28, every single person does that Job Lot state of mind and it didn't stop when it came past the Sagamore into Medford, because I wasn't the only one just standing and staring. I went in with what I knew I needed to get, citronella candles for a party I was going to, right when I walked in, literally RIGHT there. I could have easily just hopped in line and be on my way, but I had to explore..... a half hour later and some money later, I walked out. I love the food area, such random ish over there! Nice! Score! Woo, try out random stuff, it looks funny so why the hell not?!! Just watch for expiration dates please.. or don't and take the old stuff so I can get the new stuff. I have a love/hate relationship with Ocean State Job Lot. I love the anxious feeling of embarking to OSJL, not knowing what hidden treasures I will find that week. It is my first stop when I run my errands but unfortunately usually not my last. One would expect to find items at a steeper discount here but they are priced at about the same point as other major retailers. I hate the stale air one breathes in once they enter the store. Some circulation indoors would do wonders and improve the shopping experience here. I usually try to make it in and out within 20 minutes with the fear of succumbing to my allergies. Also, the shelves are very disorganized to the point where you have to do a dozen double takes to check for item prices and availability. Overall, one can't really expect too much out of a discount store. Ocean State Job Lot in Medford is worth a visit given the plethora of stores in the same plaza. Ocean State Job Lots has been around in RI for a long time, and I'm glad to have them here near me. It's the "Odd Lots" concept -- overstock and last season's items, of ALL kinds of stuff, so the selection varies constantly and the prices are SO cheap. I get pet toys there, tea, clothes, tools, and READING GLASSES! 3 bucks for readers that are 20 somewhere else. Since the stock changes constantly, they might not have what you want, but the staff is pretty good about keeping track of things, if you can find someone to ask. It's a shopping adventure! Also the address is confusing, 30 Commercial St is the back of the building, the entrance is off of Riverside Ave. They should mention that on there web site! Purchased a fireplace for $299. Installed it, got rid of the box and in 1 week the remote stopped working. Contacted the manufacturer, FlameandShade and they told me to deal with the store I purchased it at...OSJL. Went to the store and they said I could not return it without original packaging. Called OSJL customer service at headquarters and they said "unfortunately" we can do nothing for you. The unit functions do not work without the remote, so now I'm stuck with a non functioning piece of wall art? Poor customer service!!!! read more

OSJL is the only store I 1) make sure I have enough time when I visit; and 2) take the time to prowl every aisle. It's worth it because you never know what wondrous thing you will find. Case in point: I buy an expensive face cream. Sorry, not saying what it is. I paid $29 for it on line and $4.00 at OSJL. It is the same stuff. I bought a large stainless steel bowl for $3.99 and heavy duty clear plastic bins to organize my freezer. I don't remember the price but they are the perfect size for that sort of thing, they don't crack from use or the cold and they were a good price. I got my new lined cotton gardening shirt for $5.00. It's always a problem what to wear outdoors because dirt gets ground in. I wish they'd had two in my size. They also carry organic food items, teas, and lots of international items as well. Check the "sell by" date; some dates are near, most are over a year away. I haven't noticed stale air in the Medford or Watertown store and they were the first store I shopped in to mark x's on the floor for people to stand while waiting for checkout, first to have a monitor to make sure people actually did that, and first to protect their cashiers by boxes and now barriers. Though some of the aisles were narrow, most of the other shoppers when I went to both stores I frequent a few weeks ago were wearing masks. I went to job lot in Falmouth. Although it's a nice gesture to charge customers 2% as a salary increase for employees, perhaps the CEO and higher-ups should donate 2% of salaries to go to the front line troops. Job Lot is forgetting that a huge number of people who shop there are out of work during this pandemic and have to watching their pennies. I'm sure very few people tell the cashier not to do it. These folks proudly break the law. They pay contractors to dump their advertising on my lawn. I've contacted them asking them to stop, and they claim it's their god-given right to dump trash on my lawn. In their words: "We strongly deny the allegation that the use, distribution and/or delivery of the advertisement circulars is in any way illegal, unethical or inappropriate." Really? Even after you've been asked to stop hundreds of times? What about Massachusetts General Law 270§16, 266§120, and 266§126B,127. I pointed that out. They decided to keep doing it unless I dig up tens of thousands of dollars on a lawyer to make them stop. They simply don't care. They continue to pay contractors to trash property, and I continue to clean it up. I'm not sure why you'd want to do business with someone who is proud of breaking the law. read more
