I found out this store about a decade ago. it's a well kept secret even though it's a huge building on route one in Saugus right next-door to Kowloons. They even have a driveway that connects both parking lots so I usually exit Kowloons exit rather than Ocean States. After finding a parking spot, you have to check out potted plants, and seasonal goods in front of the building. If you want to purchase some, you have to bring them inside purchase. Once inside the building, it's almost like a maze. There's so many different ways you can go through this building. Suggest you plan to explore. They have something for everybody everybody. Basically they have everything you could possibly think of under one roof. Linens, garden accessories, clothing, food, house, supplies, even rugs. For me, I head right over to the food section. I have a lot of fun here. As a foodie, they have all kinds of different specialty foods mostly from around New England, but some from the world. I enjoy reading packages that I've never seen before some healthy some not. They have some nice healthy organic items mixed in with miscellaneous therapy, sugary salty items. I tend to buy a lot of my canned fish here. They have kippers, herring, tuna and sardines, all in good virgin olive oil water no additives. I stock up on these as they are an excellent value. A few other products that I usually purchase while I'm here I'll be organic pastas made from vegetables. Also some of the tomato sauces and marinades excellent selection available. Be prepared to stand in line as they only have a few clerks one or two open at a time even when the store is busy. Please don't complain because I believe this is what keeps the pricing low. Kudos to Ocean State for self checkouts. I applaud this. As for cleanliness, it's probably a five on a 10 star scale. When you go here, just assume you're shopping in basically a big warehouse. Employee wise the clerks and managers always seem to have a pretty good attitude here I've spoke to a few of them and they seem very nice always polite willing to help the customer. I've only had interaction with them at a cash register, but they all seem pleasant to me. A bonus make sure you sign up for that emails because they have what they call crazy deals. This is huge people. They have special items when you purchase them they give you the same or a dollar value back on a card. if you shop correctly, it's very lucrative for your pocketbook. For example, they have one small area in the back usually has about 10 or 20 items on it. If you get lucky enough and you want to purchase these items every time you spend $10 on these items they give you a gift card for $10.. These are always food items in the back they call it eat for free. Last time I was in the store I got lucky. They had three types of tuna pouches in this section. I was lucky enough that one of them. The only ingredients were tuna, spices, and virgin olive oil. Usually for an ingredient reader like me I don't get lucky on this table, but this time I did. Turned out to be a great day at Ocean State for me as they also had a few will get a soups with great ingredients on the table at the same time. I don't think it's a record however I spent $170 and I left it with an $89 gift card. Good on future purchases and the gift card is good for anything in the entire store. I would say, read the flyer and see what crazy deals are available and make your way over to the eat for free section. Maybe you'll get lucky. ENJOY‼. read more

Very rude manager angel or angela. We had a gift card and a credit and we had flowers and some other items. We got to the register were told we couldnt use either on the flowers. I said something people buy gift cards and they cannot buy flowers with them. Manager a very rude women flew over to inform us that we couldn't use either one. She had an attitude my husband was being very nice then she said there are signs everywhere. No there are Not one tiny sign outside. There needs to be signs at the register. I go here when I need something not so urgent, they opened one near us and its pretty convenient to stop by even last minute, they got cheaper options for household necessities and it helps a lot. I get some container for desserts that I make from time to time and it helps to just get disposable ones. For house necessities they have most of the stuff you need, even random ones that you need disposable containers. Hope they stay for a little while read more

This is one of the best stores. Where else can you buy free* stuff online (they have endless pages of items that will give you a store gift card for the full price which you can use on anything but flowers and other free/insider deal items). It is also my go to place for all pool supplies. Lynn, the store manager (I believe) is always super helpful and they always seem to have sufficient staff. They carry lots of unique vegetarian and gluten-free friendly items that can be hard to find at regular grocery stores. read more

First off, since they moved to their new location I find the store neater and more pleasant, and the staff very helpful! But it's often hard to distinguish good buys from overpriced low-quality ones. Case in point: we bought a patio set online. The first delivery had one defectiove item, and both online customer service and the local store were very helpful in getting the defective piece replaced -- basically they shipped an entire package (which was large) and told me to take what I wanted. We liked the set. However, it's only been out on the porch for about a month, and yet when we went to move some pieces around, we discovered that the metal frames were full of rusty water, which spilled out when we moved them. Two of the pictures below show the result -- rusty water dripped (flowed, actually) out of both chairs when we tried to move them. We were moving them to install a new indoor-outdoor carpet, and it was nearly ruined by these rust spots. The third image shows that, after only about 5 weeks, the fabric has faded severely. IMHO outdoor furniture should not fill up with water, or rust and fade so quickly. We paid about $500 for this set, and got a $300 Crazy Deal. With a net cost of $200 this kind of low quality is hard to complain about, but I would have been happy paying a fair price for higher quality. read more

Let me begin by saying I love to shop at Ocean State and have done so for many years. It's fun to find a bargain! Today was my first and LAST visit to the location on Rt. 1 in Saugus. I've been in many Ocean State Job Lot locations and have never seen such a mess. What a poorly managed store. The place looks ransacked: empty shelves, empty cardboard boxes left on the shelves, shelves mixed up with odd products casually set aside by customers that have not been restocked. There are toys, books, all kinds of items left on the floors. They do not have in stock what is advertised as in stock on the Ocean State Job Lot website, (specific example: Flour). I'm surprised the home office of this company allows this to happen. There are many locations of this company and they do a great job. Avoid this one. read more

Terrible service . I will explain . After spending an hour filling up our cart , we headed to check out . We stood in line and there was only one other woman in front of us but it was taking a long time because the woman had to keep rechecking prices .I observed a woman who worked there at check out number 5 . The light was not on to accept customers , but she looked like she was going to open up the register and accept customers . I thought about getting out of line and waiting for her to open but I saw another older lady waiting in the check out next to 5 and I figured she deserved to be taken care of first since she was there before me . My friend was getting impatient and just wanted to leave our stuff and go but I reasoned with her and we decided to keep waiting . Meanwhile , register 5 opens up and she does not even acknowledge us . She takes customers that were hardly waiting as long as us . I got so pissed after I saw her take 3 customers , that we left the cart full of stuff and promptly left the store . Terrible customer service ! The woman was young , approximately early to mid 30s with brunette hair in a ponytail with glasses . This woman just cost the store about $400 worth of stuff that we would have bought if she just did her job correctly ! read more

Great store for odds & ends, & the variety of (mostly unheard of) candy/snacks is practically limitless! You WILL find something you've never tasted before let alone heard of with the vast variety.. Theres ALWAYS something worth the bargain you're getting it for and its always much cheaper finding it here ... Not a bad store overall. Tbh they had a 2 rating bc of 1 persons bad experience....
