Quality Excellent Appeal Excellent…read more Service Excellent As a new coastal home-owner, we contacted Shade & Shutter Systems to learn more about what products were available to protect our home. Our call was returned immediately and Paul Craig, owner of the company, provided exceptional detail about the various products and their benefits / drawbacks. We scheduled a site visit; Paul showed up right on time with samples and guided us through the various applications. We selected the VueSafe product. Paul indicated a 2-week lead time... but as Hurricane Sandy approached Paul contacted us on Saturday morning to let us know they had accelerated production and an installer would be on-site that day. The installer, Ed, was prompt, courteous and diligent throughout the installation process. We couldn't be happier. The product is up and already we feel more secure. Many thanks to the entire Shade & Shutter System's team for exceptional customer service and rapid response during an emergency situation.

We selected the electric controlled roll shutter product. From our initial contact with Steve through frequent contact with the project foreman and wonderful installers, the project couldn't have gone better. The local showroom displays all the products to view, and the custom installation looks great. The shutters also seem to be excellent quality. Before the order was sent to the factory, the installers came out to review it to make sure of any special challenges or material that would be required. After installation, which they worked around our schedules, they were careful to explain proper use and maintenance as well. It is obvious that this company takes great pride in their business, and realize that customer service and recommendations mean everything. We are very pleased, and look forward to the shutter protection during storm season.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel obligated to warn others about my experience,…read moreespecially my experience with the owner Chris. From start to finish, the customer service was incredibly disappointing. After spending close to $10,000 on a new awning, I expected professional workmanship and accountability. Instead, the fabric was installed with visible bunching above valence. I had to fight tooth and nail to get this rectified - had to contact the corporate Sunesta office because Chris was pushing back about rectifying this. Than replacement fabric was ordered and was installed with stains, including blood, as well as dirt marks. When I pointed this out before the installers left, my concerns were brushed off. Rather than taking responsibility or offering to inspect or clean it, the owner Chris said it was probably from a berry or flower and essentially dismissed. Throughout the process, I felt like my concerns were minimized instead of taken seriously. Every issue I raised was met with excuses rather than solutions. There was never any ownership of mistakes or genuine effort to make things right. I left multiple conversations feeling like I was being told my concerns weren't valid instead of having them addressed professionally. In addition to the stains, the replacement fabric bunches and folds when closing, unlike the original awning, which operated smoothly. I was told the wrinkles would work themselves out, but the rippling and folding are noticeably different from how the original fabric functioned. Instead of acknowledging the possibility of an installation issue, my concerns were repeatedly dismissed. For the amount of money this project cost, I expected professionalism, quality control, and customer service. Instead, I experienced poor communication, dismissive treatment, and a complete lack of accountability. A reputable company should stand behind its work, not make customers feel like they're inconveniencing them for asking legitimate questions. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this company. If something goes wrong, don't expect accountability or a willingness to make it right.

After multiple discussions and an email agreement on March 7, 2014, I sent Mr. Robert Glidden,…read morePresident/Owner of Awning Systems, Inc., Hyannis, Massachusetts, a check in the amount of $2,562, as a deposit on a project to replace our present awning (originally installed by Awning Systems in approximately 1994) with a Sunesta Retractable Awning w/ Motor for our home at 3 Weetamo Road in Nantucket, MA. Our bank records show that Awning Systems cashed that check. At the time, Mr. Glidden and I discussed our mutual desire for him to provide the materials and labor for said project during the spring of 2014, in order to beat the seasonal rush of jobs that takes place on island during the summer. Since that time, I have made multiple efforts via phone and email to reach Mr. Glidden in order to determine the status of the job. I dropped by his office in Hyannis on May 14, 2014, but he was not there, so I left a message with his assistant, Nicki. On August 6, 2014, I sent Mr. Glidden a certified letter, return receipt requested, to register my desire, not having heard from him in five months, to end our transaction and to have him return my deposit. I also indicated in that letter that, should I not receive a check in the full amount of my deposit within ten (10) days from the date of the letter, I would take steps to file a complaint with the Massachusetts Attorney General's Office of Consumer Protection, file a complaint with the Massachusetts Better Business Bureau and list a negative review of his business on media websites. The return receipt for said letter is dated August 7. On August 11, my wife made a subsequent visit to the Hyannis office, where she found Mr. Glidden, who said he was just about to call us; he claimed the original awning had arrived at his office damaged, and that he had ordered a new one which he indicated would be ready to be installed within the next week. He gave my wife his cell phone number. I have called that number many times, and the mailbox has been full. I have called the office several times, and, since no one answered, I have left messages there. I finally was able to leave a voicemail message on Mr. Glidden's cell phone on September 6, in which message I indicated that, if I had not heard back from him over the weekend, I would, on Monday, September 8, begin to take the actions outlined in my letter. Hence, the filing of this review in the form of a complaint.
