I have had a couple stays at Oceanview. Treatment was great! Dr G master G as like to call him is straight amazing in my eyes. In 20yrs of treatment no Dr accomplished with my mental health what Dr Master G has!! I'm indebted to Dr G for this life I am blessed to have "today", hands down he has played a major part of me today!! The nursing staff is great!! Patients are all treated with ultimate respect above and beyond!! The techs work hand on with nursing staff to make sure patients needs are met above and beyond! Shout out to tech man Will he is way rad!! I would have NEVER found OV if it weren't for one of the kindest, most warm heart person I ever met Carla DiCandia. All I have had to do is make contact with her and say I need help and she has been on top of getting me admitted!! I love everyone at OV they are an amazing group of people!!! read more

I went to Cedars Sinai Hospital where I was given a sleeping pill by a Asian Male nurse and woke up at ocean view hospital there I was held hostage for a WHOLE month the Dr at ocean view said I was BI POLAR which I'm definitely not the staff there put gum in my hair I had to cut off all my hair. I would not recommend this hospital a black male nurse told me to take off all my clothes in front of him. I took legal action. shame on this Hospital the Dr there shud be arrested for holding me HOSTAGE as well as the Asian male nurse from Cedars. a lot of women get drugged and raped at these Hospitals. I would not recommend these places especially to young girls. read more

This place has no protocol when dealing with patient who has absolute mental health crisis. They took an assessment and accepted the patient tranfer from another location , then let the very vulnerable patient walked out the door .. it took 3 days later for family to file missing person then some by standers in Beverly Hills called for help. thanks god that my son is alive and in a proper care now. read more

The PHP is so very special! I've had some of the best therapy here in group therapy. The staff is very caring and supportive and they take care of my medications. Shana the NP is SO GOOD at what she does and is very in touch with her knowledge and my symptoms. Richard the NP who is covering her while she is on maternity leave is very good too and also in touch with my symptoms and medications. Beryl the nurse is so good and supportive with all of us and Sam the therapist is SO patient and supportive of all of us and good at what she does and SO knowledgeable of all diagnosis and symptoms. This is a voluntary adult psychiatric hospital so it is not a lockdown facility. This means they will not use restraints or sedate you; they work with you to get you stabilized on the correct meds and outpatient treatment plan. They utilize different groups to help you form good social skills and coping skills while keeping you in a safe environment. I went here to get away from unhealthy thoughts and get help with panic attacks. They have an incredible staff, shout out to Patricia, Melba, Ian, Ivan, Allison, Celia, Ray, Jen, Lillian and all the other amazing staff you truly make a difference from the bottom of my heart!!! The facility is kept clean and they really help instill healthy routines for outside the facility. I would totally recommend this facility if you're not feeling safe outside and need to really recalibrate! read more

Ocean View Psychiatric Health Facility is a great place, It is kept clean and maintained. The staff really cares about the clients and the program is directed towards your interests of recovery. One of the staff downstairs named Mike is probably the best security guard I have ever known. I don't know who is writing these positive reviews, but they're not accurate at all. I lasted about two days in there before I had enough. The entire reason I went in there was to get stabilized on meds because I was suicidal, but they didn't even put me on anything until my second day there. I went by the positive reviews on Yelp and Google and asked so many questions to the intake coordinator before I went in there and they basically told me whatever I wanted to hear. I was told that there were plenty of groups all day long which I assumed meant CBT/DBT style groups, but I showed up to "group" and it was a children's coloring book page and some popcorn. If I needed anything, I had to ask multiple people multiple times and wait for over an hour because they were understaffed. Many of the employees do not have college degrees and I would overhear them talking negatively about the patients. If you have any other options, please do not go here. read more

OVPH was so great. The staff is super caring and supportive. My doctor was amazing and helped look at my symptoms instead of my diagnosis. The facilities are clean. T does a great job making sure everything is clean and safe around the floor. The groups are well designed and developed. Ivan and the whole recreational therapy team was great! Ray was amazing and lighthearted, offering so much light and laughter to a really hard time in my life. The nurses and med nurses were kind and helpful especially when I felt anxious or overwhelmed. My case manager and social worker worked so hard to get me into my next placement. This staff care about their patients and want to help if you want the help. read more

My brother was there for evaluation because he had dementia. He was totally jacked up on mind altering drugs and then was unable to even walk. He fell and was sent to a nearby hospital becaue he broke a pubic bone. They kept him much longer that necessary and then sent him to a locked facility. Awful experience. My brother no longer knew me after being there. read more

Ocean view is a psychiatric hospital that treats the psychiatric problems and disorders, while at the same time, the staff is so helpful and so friendly & smart- the staff makes the patients not feel like they r crazy. This is what is best and unique about Ocean View. As long as u have to be at something so scary as a psych ward, the attitude & caring & energy of the staff can either cause the patients to make the,selves literally go crazy or it can help the clients not feel crazy or different and this helps them feel better before going back out into the world. read more

I went to Ocean View because of the amazing reviews, but my actual experience turned out different. I admitted myself after experiencing suicidal ideations. I have moderate anxiety/depression with severe episodes. The medical care provided is abysmal. I waited 48 hours to be seen by a psychiatrist. The psychiatrist I was assigned never came in person. It was all over FaceTime (yes, FaceTime on an iPhone). They often had their psych NP cover for them. They also didn't do an assessment of medication I was on and whether or not I was making progress with it. The psychiatrist made the mistake of assuming the medication I was on was prescribed to me by their NP. However, I had been on it for 4 months. The psychiatrist said they would increase my SSRI by 25 mg. They agreed with my assigned social worker that I needed to be placed on medical leave once I was discharged. After three nights, I felt stable. For no reason other than low staffing, I was asked to stay two extra nights to discharge on Monday because they "don't do discharges over the weekend." There was no medical reason provided as to why I needed to continue to stay. I was stable, no longer having suicidal ideations, and didn't pose a threat to myself or those around me. I was very clear with everyone on the staff that I wanted to go home by Sunday, and they all reassured me that they would do everything they could to get me discharged over the weekend. I left on Sunday (as I planned) without any medication nor medical leave letter. I was discharged on AMA (against medical advice) because the doctor refused to discharge me for no other reason than "we don't do discharges on the weekends." If you've been to a psychiatric hospital before, you know that it can be a tough environment. There are people on all spectrums of mental illness, and there are a few patients with very severe diagnoses. For those with more moderate/less severe diagnoses, it can be a really hard environment. Often times making you feel worse, not better. I felt strongly staying in that environment for too long would send me backwards and because I wasn't getting any individualized treatment, I knew that I wasn't making progress. To be asked to stay there an extra two nights for no medical reason was infuriating and disempowering. The "average stay of 7-10 days" is questionable. I can tell you with certainty there are patients in there that DO NOT need to be in there for 7-10 days. It is a ploy to bill insurance as much as they can. It is also due to lack of continuum of care. I didn't see a psychiatrist for the first 48 hours. They failed to chart my increase in dosage for my SSRI, so they couldn't pass me the higher dose we discussed because while they said it verbally, it wasn't in the chart. The lack of thoroughness causes wasted time in your treatment plan. As the patient, you're forced to discharge on AMA or stay longer so you walk out with the medication you need. It's a catch 22. Damned if you, damned if you don't. I had to ironically put my own mental health first, and do what was best for me. I knew staying there was only going to make it worse, so I made the tough decision to leave without medication and without a medical leave letter so I wouldn't exacerbate my condition. I cannot say enough positive things about the mental health workers. Stephon and Rondell are absolutely amazing and do everything they can to keep people's spirits high. Jeannette and Lorraine are amazing psych nurses and also did everything they could to support me. I had Emma as my social worker and Crystal was her supervisor. Also both great and I felt genuinely supported by them. I will say that they need to hire more social workers. The social workers are overworked and overwhelmed. Their client loads are too high and they don't have adequate time to assess their clients thoroughly. But, they give it their best and you can tell. The real problem here isn't the mental health workers or the nurses. The psychiatrists and management makes all their hard work go in vein. However, I spoke with the Director of Nursing, Phillip, and I do feel he took my concerns seriously. I cannot tell you how hard it is to be stuck in a psychiatric facility longer than you need to be, and knowing that if you leave before the doctor signs off, you walk out without any of your medical needs being met. I did feel unaccounted for and unheard. I hate to say it, but especially for my fellow Black women struggling with their mental health, this is NOT the place for us. It will only exacerbate your experience with medical neglect and not being heard nor respected by your medical providers. The one lesson I did learn from Ocean View is to always advocate for yourself, be kind to yourself, and there's always a silver lining. I'm grateful to the staff and nurses I met that supported me and did everything they could to help me. Just think twice about going here! And if you do, prepare to have a long stay. read more

The staff at Ocean View were incredibly kind and supportive during my stay there. I was terrified to go in, but they answered all of my questions, provided me with resources, and helped stabilize my mental health with proper medication. My psychiatrist, Dr. Goenjian, listened to my concerns and what I hoped to get out of my treatment. The recreational therapists planned great activities and reaponded to patient requests. The only negatives I have were with the medical doctor and a different psychiatrist. The medical doctor, Dr. Adams, came in the first night and immediately took his mask off to talk to me, despite the fact that covid is still a concern. The other psychiatrist, Dr. Jenkins, did not meet with his clients properly - he popped his head into their shared rooms, said, "Do you need anything?" and then left right away. Another patient wanted to speak with him and he said he wasn't going to wait for them to come back - if they got there in time, fine, but if not, they'd have to wait for the next day. I'm thankful I didn't have him. read more

Oceanview is a pretty nice facility. The doctors are helpful and polite and the facility is very clean. Personally I think they really shine because of their nurses! Specially nurse kammie and maura (: They really made my visit comfortable and helped me through rough patches. Honestly, I dislike alot of facilities due to their poor bedside manners and just plain mean nurses but if this facility hires more lovely ladies like these 2 their patients would be much much happier. They didn't make me feel like it was insane and treated me like a normal person. I'm happy with the services provided and the care I received to help better my anxiety & depression. At first glance everything seemed good. We took my daughter in for PTSD, we thought maybe drugs. Long story short we were freaked out about leaving her with no phone and no way of contacting her. Received a call at 5am on a Monday morning that she left and they let her go. She ended up walking home. The physchiatrist was very helpful and made a difference but I would still be cautious about leaving your person here. read more

If you have a loved one at this place, make sure they have Dr. Wirga as his/her psychiatrist. She is the ONLY person who has any sort of idea what is the right direction for his/her meds. They will put a woman of child bearing age on depakote, and the techs/nurses have literally not one ounce of care or compassion for patients. It is not clean like these photos posted, and there is absolutely NO COMMUNICATION of the patients care, current health, or continuity of care. Misdiagnosis happened. People peeing themselves and them leaving the puddles for hours. Men clients walking in on women clients in the bathroom. Bed bugs. I feel like we could sue but this was already such a traumatic experience for us I just don't want to deepen/further the emotional scars.... In my opinion, if you care about your loved one do not, DO NOT, send him/her here. Don't even consider it. They will be traumatized. read more
