It was our first time visiting Tofino and we're glad we stayed at Ocean Village Resort! We were able to get that beach vacation but also cabin vibe at the same time. Aside from the unique structure, we really liked this hotel because it was a beach front property close to restaurants/grocery store and had a fully equipped kitchen. The view from our balcony was beautiful - whether it be in the morning or evening. The hotel may look a bit rustic outside but we liked how modern and clean the washroom was. The kitchen also had complete and proper kitchen items we could borrow throughout our stay. Parking is next to the studio which made it very easy for us to load and unload our things. Guests observed silence in the evening which helped make it a pleasant experience for everyone. Customer service was mostly done by text. Check in and check out were easy and the procedures were sent by email. We also received reminders by text. When we had questions, the staff was a text away. This was very convenient for us and the staff responded quickly. This said, wifi and cell reception worked well during our stay as well. We would definitely stay here again! read more

Great location!!! We booked a waterfront cabin to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary. Was surprised with a complementary bottle of wine, bonus! With Covid protocols pool / hot tub area was closed, boo would have been nice on cold rainy days. No daily housekeeping. All communications were through text messages, which was fine. We stayed during Thanksgiving long weekend for 4 nights. Our cabin was clean. Comfy bed. We brought our pup with us, extra charge. We loved Mackenzie beach, its calm and not as busy as others in the area. If you are lucky enough you'll be rewarded with beautiful sunsets. Overall, it was a great experience. read more

i am giving it five starts which is unusual for me but we have been totally happy with our three night stay. In other Tofino visits, we have stayed at much pricier places (which are lovely) but this was for a family gathering. This place worked out perfectly. We booked one of the garden suites as we wanted to be away from all the hustle and bustle and weren't concerned about the beach - it was less than a minute walk. Our suite was huge. Much bigger than the cabins right on the water. Everything in the room was totally adequate. The rest of our group were in the cabins on the beach and they were smaller but you were right there. All four families were happy with the accommodation. The kids and dogs were happy with the beach right there and all the lawn space as well as the pool and hot tub. The bbqs were new and nice. Nothing cheap about them. We were really happy with our stay here and would highly recommend it for groups, families or couples. We will stay again for sure. read more

Happy with my stay. It was $300 (including tax) a night during the May Long weekend. It's a minimum 3 night stay during long weekend or summer. We booked a top floor suite for 3 people. There's a sofa bed so you can have up to 4 people in a suite. The kitchen has a small fridge, oven, stove, microwave, dishes and utencils. There isn't much counter space so we didn't use the drying rack, but you can use the picnic/dining table. The sponge for washing dishes was dirty so I had to soak and wash that for a while before using. The bed was comfortable and like any hotel or cabin, the pillows were flat. That's expected so no surprises there. The top suite has curved walls/roof and had a wood cabin feel to it. So cute and cozy feeling. The view is beautiful because Tofino is. Listening to the waves crash or looking at the stars at night is magic. read more

Husband and I try to come to Tofino or Ucluelet annually, and came across this spot when searching for lodging. We are glad we did! The cabin was perfectly cute and cozy, with an amazing view and beach access. It was well stocked and appliances updated, etc - not used to seeing that - yet still had the rustic vibe you eant when you come out here. Love the fireplace too. Perfect for stormy weather watching. It was great coming back to a warm lodge after a day hiking/surfing in the wind and rain. One evening, we decided to pick up some fresh crab for dinner. Stopped in the front office on our way out and asked for a crab pot w/ crackers and they happily supplied everything. Everyone at the office was super friendly and happy to help. Their apparel is adorable too, so I had to grab a sweatshirt on my way out. Awesome spot - we can't wait to stay here again! read more

We just got back from a fantastic long weekend at Ocean Village. We were on the upper floor of one of the little chalet cabins, with a balcony overlooking Mackenzie Beach. The suite was clean, well cared for, surprisingly spacious, and efficiently designed, with absolutely everything we needed. The bed was really comfortable, the water pressure and temperature in the bathroom were excellent, and the little kitchen area was well equipped. The lights were a bit dim, but I respect the need to use low-energy bulbs. (Bring a book light!) The staff members who checked us in and out were friendly and helpful, and the amenities were exactly as promised, though we didn't get a chance to check out the pool and hot tub. The bathroom was stocked with local "Sea Wench" shampoo, conditioner, and body wash (great stuff--I bought some at the pharmacy in Tofino before we left town!), and the bathtub had a neat little handmade wooden tray table with a space cut out to hold a wine glass stem securely. There was good coffee in the room, and creamer waiting for us in the fridge. If we'd had time for a beach fire, firewood and S'mores kits were available at the office! This is a lovely place, and everything we hoped for. We were planning our next visit before we hit the road home! read more

First Things First 1: If the 'special rate' says 'Storm Watching Special' then you should expect a storm... First Things First 2: This review would have been 5* except for the quake thingy... There are a few things you need to know before you go. The Ocean Village Resort is about a 4.5 hour drive from Victoria, BC or 3 hours from Nanaimo, BC. If you are driving from Seattle, including ferry times, plan on an 8-hour drive. But there is a bit a good news for the long trip - the drive isn't just awesome, it is, doubly awesome. There are winding roads, waterfalls, creeks, rivers, lakes, and lots of trees. Tofino is located at the end of a peninsula so there is just one way in and one way out. See http://www.bit.ly/TofinoPictures That location is both good and bad. The good is that it is quiet, laid back (imagine Berkeley in the late 60's before it really was Berkeley having a love child with the 'island time' of Hawaii before Elvis invaded it). It is mostly a young town, with people in hiking boots, down vests and wool hats who all love the outdoors. So, What's So Bad About Tofino? There is the little, itty-bitty nuisance called the Cascadia Fault. Cascadia makes the San Andreas fault look like a high school football player trying to play in the NFL. The Cascadia earthquake will be almost 30 times more energetic than the San Andreas fault. And, as a bonus, it generates a very large tsunami - about the same size as the 2004 9.1+ Indian Ocean earthquake or the 2011 9.0 Japan earthquake. Oh yeah... did I mention that if it is a 9.0+ quake that the ground will shake for three to six minutes. That is how you know it is the big one. Wait, There Is More - Pay Attention: You know the airplane drill, "There are 5 exits aboard this plane: 2 at the front, 2 over the wings, and one at the rear of the plane." You no longer pay attention. Well, here is something where you should pay attention. In Tofino, there is only one emergency exits near you. The Cascadia fault plane is so close to land that you have 14 minutes to get to higher ground before up to an estimated 60-foot wave hits. You won't have time to drive out of town so your strategy is go 'up,' at least as high as 60 feet. In case you aren't good with numbers, that means forget repacking your suitcase - just grab heavy shoes, warm clothing and your cell phone and drive to safe spot... assuming the roads haven't been decimated. The Cascadia subduction zone erupts every 300 years or so and the last eruption was in 1700. You do the math. A bonus article... I found a blog posting bit.ly/TofinoEarthquake by a person with a PhD in Structural Geology (ie earthquakes), who happened to live in Tofino at the time. She ultimately left so she could be 'safer.' The article is entitled You're all gonna die. (Whatever). I read it a couple of times, including the comments. My wife 'pooh-poohed' it. You can make your own call. Now back to our regularly scheduled program... I really liked Tofino. Wow, Way To 'Reframe': When you go on vacation you typically nice weather, blue skies and stress-free days. Look at a map and see Tofino 'sticks out' into the Pacific Ocean as makes it very susceptible to all storms from the north, south or west. So how do you market that susceptibility? They offer 'Storm Watching Special' rates during the 'Storm Watching Season' which is five months long (Oct 10 - Mar 9). Smart of them to reframe the weather. Having said that, we went in October to see a storm (see, reframing works). Well, we got one. Amenities include indoor swimming pool, hot tub & laundry Two Paws Up: Ocean Village Resort has dog-friendly rooms. Your dog(s) will love the beach as there is just the right amount of two-paw hopping, tail-in-the-air wagging, ball chasing and butt-sniffing going on. If You Enjoy Carpal Tunnel You Will Enjoy Endlessly Hitting Reconnect To Attempt To Reive Your Internet Connection: Reconnect... reconnect... reconnect. I say to front desk, "I am going to be the first one ever to say this, your internet is crap." "I've heard that before," she says. But, "Fiber is coming to town." Pause. Then she says, on a somewhat brighter note (?), "It used to be worse." It's Canadian, Eh? The Currency: There is an exchange rate, meaning that sometimes the US dollar is worth a lot more than a Canadian dollar and vice-versa. In October of 2016, $100 (CDN) per night, costs in US dollars is $76.22. Your Phone Won't Work. Your Pandora Won't Work. Your Netflix Won't Work: Hey, it is Canada. Once you cross the border your phone won't work, plus there are no TV's. It's Canadian, Eh? I *heart* Tofino. The first time we visited, we stayed near its harbour. This time, we opted for one of the resorts along Mackenzie Beach. The Ocean Village Beach Resort is located right on Mackenzie Beach. We went to sleep listening to the ocean and woke up listening to the ocean - sharp contrast to the sounds we endure living in Yaletown off the Cambie Bridge. The cabin was comfortable and boasted a beautiful view of Mackenzie Beach. I was a little disappointed that our porch light had burnt out prior to our check-in time and no one came to fix it... we were offered another cottage, but it was late and we didn't want to pack up everything and everyone and move to another cottage. The second star is for the ocean view which we got by virtue of paying for an ocean front single. Also a plus was the cleanliness and a wooden picnic table in the room - fun!. But the room designer did not have human beings living in the room in mind. Some examples: 1. It is very hard for the second person to get to/from the bed, as the space between the bed and wall is about one foot and there are curved over-hanging projections at neck height. See photo. 2. The only lights in the bedroom are on two small night tables, and they are controlled by a single switch which is not reachable by anyone in the bed. 3. The entrance flooded in a moderate rain. 4. The microwave was placed on top of the full-size refrigerator and was thus too high for my average-sized wife to reach. 5. The assigned parking spaces are small and you may have fun parallel parking and turning around in a narrow driveway. There were also some maintenance issues, such as the broken handle on the screen door which made it an adventure to open the screen from the inside. The individual hot water heater tends to run out of hot water, and one of our space heaters (in the bedroom) stank when we first turned it on. The front desk explained everything. They said the property was 40 years old. The room was number 49. read more

The magnificent sea and sounds of the crashing waves are only steps away. Being from Vancouver, Tofino is a regular weekend getaway for me. I think this rustic resort is a great deal. People are friendly, cabin is comfortable, and the view speaks for itself. I came with a few friends to surf and hang out in town for dinner and drinks. The cabin has a small kitchen to arrange snacks and light meals (bigger cabins are available). It has a microwave, toaster, fridge and stove. It was furnished many years ago, and the decor is plain tho maintained very well and very clean. I'm so picky about that stuff. It does the trick! I'm very happy here. The view is spectacular as you can see in my pictures I uploaded, it rained this weekend tho still wonderful. They have a saying here in Tofino... " If you don't like the weather, wait twenty minutes!" How true :) It a six minute walk to a place where they have a coffee shop, surf rentals, small grocery store, and amazing taco truck and the best fish and chips and fish tacos I've ever had in B.C. There is also laundry, pay phones, and board games to borrow at the resort. There's lots of grass and picnic tables around as well. You can't find cheaper on the beach unless your camping or seriously downgrading in quality of cabin. I'd say this place is good for couples, surfers and family.. I'm in my late twenties here with a few friends and it's perfect for what we want. read more

This is such a nice place!!! You really are just steps from the beach. When booking this place I wasn't too sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised!! Started with check in. We were a tad early but no problems, our cabin was ready. The checking building is really nice. They have books you can borrow (adults and kids too!) as well as lots of fun board games to keep the kids happy at night. The cabins are great! We had a lower studio and it was perfect. I'm glad we had the lower one cause the upper studio only has a small deck. It's nice having the picnic table right outside. I don't know when they updated the inside but they are in perfect condition and amazingly clean!!! Each kitchen has everything, and I mean everything, you need to make your meals. The coffee they bring in the room is wicked!! Wish I could get this in Vancouver! But it's really about the beach. All cabins are right on the water. Ours was about 20 steps. The beaches are all sand - just beautiful. I like how they have a wash off station when you come back from the beach - nice touch! We really loved it here. Wasn't that expensive and was better than we imagined. We will come back here without giving it a second thought! read more

I will be honest. I was not expecting much from this place. Was figuring it may be run down. I could not have been more wrong. It was very clean and modern in a rustic sorta way. We stayed in a upstairs unit along the beach in one of the four "huts" to the right side of the property. Great view and having once lived on the beach I loved leaving the deck door open during the evening sleeping to the sound of the surf. Kim at the front desk was super friendly and helpful as was the rest of the staff. Awesome indoor pool and jacuzzi. My only complaint would be lack of usable Wifi but I was not very concerned with the outside world while I was here. I know there are some other great hotels in the area but I've found my home when in Tofino. read more

For the picture online you will like everything but actually they will give you a dumb little hole to live in that includes a kitchen with no supplies, no kitchen appliance-kleenex- paper towels stay in-NO physical distancing-people are sitting in big groups without any distancing and precautions. Especially in this COVID-19 pandemic if you need a safe place, not this one for sure they will take your money and spoil your precious time for relaxation. No garbage bags, smoky atmosphere every night because of the bonfire on the beachside that will make the air worst and you won't be able to breathe properly at all. which is not at all healthy for you and your family (bonfire should be prohibited keeping in mind other guests as well). WE DID THE MISTAKE TO SPEND COUPLE OUR NIGHTS THEIR AND HAD The WORST EXPERIENCE, I WANT TO HELP YOU NOT TO WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY, THEY WILL JUST SPOIL YOUR MOOD, NOT AT ALL A PEACEFUL PLACE. Excellent experience at the OVBR. VERY pet friendly; as a matter of fact we had two dog bowls, dog towels and some doggie treats waiting in our cabin and based on the number of dogs we saw around the property I would be surprised if any of the guests at the time didn't have one with them. Each cabin has it's own parking spot and there is an indoor pool and hottub for use when it's raining. The service upfront was really good as well. Cabins have nice clean bathrooms, separate bedrooms, and teeny but fully equipped kitchens as well. I would definitely recommend OVBR. I enjoyed the stay at Ocean Village in March 2011. The location is fantastic because you are steps away from the beach. We were staying in the lower studio. If you plan on using the kitchen, you might want to bring your own dish washing sponge. The dish washing sponge that was available in our unit was a bit too dirty. The dish rack was also not very clean so we opted to dry our dishes on the towels provided to us. This resort is very pet friendly. My dog had a lovely time running on the beach and meeting other dogs. The resort also gives you a dog bowl to use, some milk bones and a doggy bag. The kitchen could use a fan above the stove and the washroom could use a fan as well. The WiFi is mostly slow during the evening, probably due to high number of users. In the morning or during the day, the speed was acceptable. The swimming pool and hot tubs were good. The staff was friendly. I would come back to this resort if I decide to visit Tofino again. read more

You get to fall asleep in a beautiful little cabin, in one of the most beautiful places on this planet, listening to the waves crashing against the shoreline. GREAT spot. You can't get accomodation this close to the beach any cheaper. Cabins are kinda rustic but really clean, staff are helpful, and they allow dogs. I'm docking one star only because when staying in a studio cabin, I thought that meant we'd get our OWN cabin, not have somebody above us (this is not especially clear on the website). And by somebody, I mean elephants. The sound really travels in there. Next time I'll definitely bite the bullet and pay a little extra for a one-bedroom cabin. read more

Great place to stay, nothing fancy, but when in Tofino there is too much outside to worry about the inside of your accommodations. The loft we had was clean and small, but perfect for us. Kitchen unit and patio with ocean view, cant be beat. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The price cant be beat. The only reason I wouldn't give 5 stars is that is isnt walking distance to any pubs, surfing beaches or hiking trails. However, it is a 5 minute drive to downtown Tofino, so its in a great spot. Had an amazing time. Everything was clean, the natural shampoo/conditioner/body wash was great, staff were friendly. Even the pullout couch was comfortable. Organic coffee was restocked everyday. Although I didn't use it, the pool area looked great. Location is close to Tofino but far enough out that it's quiet. The beach is gorgeous, and for ocean view with a balcony the price was a steal. Very poor, unprofessional management and costumer service. Beginning that I should not have to do my own dishes (both for the money we pay and for the safety of the next guest). But we did it anyway. I booked it a year in advance and when I checked out they wanted to charge more then it was booked for. Very greedy people. Have their rates up "a lot" every year. Check your receipts at check out prior to paying for it! Considering the money we pay and how they continue to go up in prices, they should do a better daily cleaning, which is almost non existed. Hope the owners will wake up and change their management before they sink that place. It would be a shame. The place is very rustic for the price they want to charge, but I wouldn't mind it that much if it wasn't for the bad management. Very rude and unprofessional people! read more

I've only ever stayed at Ocean Village Beach Resort and after visiting other accommodations in Tofino, for the value, I will ALWAYS stay at Ocean Village Beach Resort. Our upper floor suite was perfected outfitted and lovely. The people staying below us were quite rowdy and drowned out the ocean sounds but we put on the bathroom fan and could no longer hear them! We stayed here for 3 nights and enjoyed them. There are a few quirky things about the place such as the lighting inside is horrible so if you want to read you can only really do so in the daytime as it is so dark even with the lights on. We stayed in number 11 which is a top suite so after going up the stairs in the pouring rain, the door opens outwards, which is strange and then you step onto the smallest rubber mat right inside trying your best not to get the floor soaking wet. My suggestion would be to maybe provide a bit bigger mat so that more than one person at a time can stand on it to get out of the rain. On the positive side it is right on the ocean so you can hear and see it from the bed in the morning. There is a pool and hot tub which we didn't get to but looked nice. The kitchen although small had all that we required for our visit. The price was good as Tofino can be a pretty expensive place. The staff were very nice and helpful. There is a BBQ area as well lots of grass area for kids to run around. read more

We've been going to Ocean Village for, well, centuries. That said, a few quibbles coming. And I really hope the folks that run the place will read this: 1. WIFI. Yeah right... They really shouldn't list this among the amenities: it's hopeless. The girl at the office described it as flakey when asked. That's being kind. We actually got further with their neighbor's WIFI: Crystal Cove. 2. Housekeeping kitchen. Not bad, except the fridge, at least in the upper duplex units. It's barely a bar fridge, very tiny. Also, some sort of carving knife would be a nice addition to the utensils: it get's tiresome trying to cut veggies or what have you with a Swiss army knife. 3. Our son came along, and we were expecting the built-in couch living room with the couches converting to cots on the fly. They've updated (at least the upper duplexes) to a fold-out couch bed. It's great, except: there goes the living room, it's kind of totalled for the duration of the visit, unless you're inclined to fold the whole contraption up every morning. That's about it, a short list, to be fair. And as I said at the outset we've been coming back for donkey years. But the wifi in particular might be the deal breaker, next time. read more

Ocean Village is a wonderful place to stay in Tofino! The cabins are basically right on the beach and the back of the property is a beautiful forest. The cabins are decorated in a beautiful rustic style and all face the ocean. The beds and couches are comfortable and the kitchenettes have everything one needs to make meals. The coffee they supply is great and the toiletries are fabulous (and locally made) - they also sell the products (Sea Wench Naturals) in the front office. The cabins and grounds are very clean and well taken care of. The pool and hot tub are nice as well. The front desk staff are always very nice and helpful (especially Kim!) and we always receive excellent service and have a wonderful time when we stay here. We recommend Ocean Village to all our friends when they are going to Tofino :) read more

This place is like a fancy summer camp for families. They have boogie boards, sand toys, board games etc. The cabins are nice, right on the beach. From the kids running around to the families cooking on the big communal grills to the camp fires on the beach, the atmosphere of this place is amazing. My son didn't even realize there wasn't a tv until day 2 of our stay. I will definitely come back. My only complaint would be that the internet is extremely slow and the rooms are not serviced except for trash and towels. We really needed a vacuum cleaner. After four days there was fine sand everywhere - beds, bathroom floor, etc. I don't mind not having the cabin serviced, especially if it saves money, but I do need some cleaning tools to do it myself. I am having a hard time communicating to friends just how much we loved this place!! Our cabin was right on the beach - 40 feet with an obstructed view of the shore. We had front row seats for every sunset. We got our fair share of the BBQs, the pool, the hot tub and the surf shack. The A-frame style cabins make the perfect homely little vacation cottage getaway. Just got back from a 3 night stay at the Ocean Village Resort. We'd booked as a group back in April, 4 lower studios, on arrival we were told that we were split and not able to keep all four families together. Very disappointed. Each of us complained at the front desk only to be told that it was tough luck. No apologies, no admitting they'd made an enormous cock-up and no help fixing the problem. To cut to the chase if you're wishing to travel here with other families/friends and want cabins next to one another, don't bother even requesting it because it won't happen and management don't care.
