Nothing is overly sweet and they definitely do Japanese ice cream correctly. The inside is adorable and clean. One big down side of this place is the parking. It's located in Plaza Midwood so I usually have to walk a few blocks after searching for parking for at least 30 minutes. I guess it's a good way to burn off the calories you will be consuming. There is also a Vietnamese restaurant next door that this place share a wall (more like a window) with and we always creep on what the patrons at the restaurant are ordering. This spot is so much more than bubble tea and I was drawn in by some of their unique offerings. My husband and I shared: - Berry Crunch Bubble Waffle with Ube Soft Serve and Mochi, substitute Oreo for Fruity Pebbles - Dark Brown Sugar Milk Tea I loved the bubble waffle. Ok so taste was good on everything that's the 2 stars, teas were great, it's a small place but it's connected to a restaurant so plenty of space. The reason for only two stars and I hate having to leave these reviews. Service wasn't pleasant, maybe they don't get paid enough to smile but the guy acted like we were a bother. Besides this, when making the ice cream he wore gloves but constantly touched his face, his nose, his hair and grabbed the ice cream with his hands, it was disgusting. I went here looking for something unique and this place was great! I've never heard of Taiyaki fish ice cream before but I'm so glad I tried it! I wanted to try the matcha soft serve but unfortunately they were out. I got the mango instead and it was great! The service was pretty slow, luckily I wasn't in a big rush. My ice cream cone was delicious! Soft serve is my favorite, but increasingly hard to find these days. I drove down to Plaza-Midwood on purpose, just to try the ice cream here, & so glad I did. I had not heard of ube ice cream previously, but the staff kindly gave me a (generous) free sample to try. (Ube is apparently best described as a Japanese sweet potato, but the flavor is more like custard, versus a traditional "American" sweet potato.) The purple ube ice cream was delicious on its own. It didn't taste like sweet potato at all, more just like a delicious, creamy, unique soft serve. I wouldn't hesitate to order a cone of just that next time. In the end yesterday though, I settled on ordering a cone of the ube-vanilla swirl, because I had been craving vanilla ice cream all day. It was wonderful. The cone was just as exciting as the filling. Not a traditional cone at all, the texture was more like a pancake, with a crispy exterior. Delicious! What made it even more unique & delectable was the cone was warm, as it was freshly made to order, just for me. The batter was poured into a special machine, & then slowly baked to perfection. (I'll admit, the wait time was definitely longer than expected, but after realizing what a special treat had, I didn't mind a bit.) The combination of warm cone with cold ice cream, & chewy/crunchy "pancake" texture juxtaposed with creamy soft serve, made this one of the most unique & mouthwatering desserts I've ever tried! The atmosphere isn't fancy, but it doesn't need to be. The location in Plaza-Midwood is great for grabbing a treat to enjoy while walking about town. I chose a fairly simple option, as I'm not really a "topping" kind of girl, but apparently there were all sorts of add-ins & sauces I could've chosen. Maybe next time will try some. One thing to note, eating it was a bit messy, so I recommend grabbing plenty of napkins! Finally, can I just add: a fish-shaped ice cream cone. How fun?!! read more

A delicious and convenient dessert choice right next to Cilantro Noodle. My wife had the soft serve UBE+Thai Tea and I had the Mini Thaiyaki with nutella. I enjoyed that dessert while playing some Pac-Man (refer to the photos attached to this review and you will understand :-p ). The only area this place can improve is the wait time. It took literally 10 minutes (I timed it) for our order to be prepared. Parking can get a bit tight but not too terrible. Staff was super friendly with an awesome attitude. So happy we were finally able to make it into Ocha Time! It's a cute little spot attached to Cilantro Noodle (which we also love). The soft serve was sooo creamy and delicious, and they had lots of fun toppings to choose from. I'd love to try one of the fish-shaped or bubble waffle cones soon! The only complaint I have is that we arrived at 8:40pm and they said they weren't serving rolled ice cream after 8:30 (they close at 9). We saw them serving one to someone right in front of us as we were walking in, so it was just a bit disappointing - but again, the soft serve was so good that we'll just need to come back soon! read more

Great boba!!! I really wanted to try their soft serve green tea but they were out of it. So I plan to go back and try it one day! The boba was really good I got the passion fruit and dragon fruit. Both were great but the dragon fruit was my fav. The front door of the shop is lock and you have to go to the next door Vietnamese restaurant to get to the shop. They have a sign in front of the cash register that says you will receive a free topping with a Yelp checkin. However, when I showed them my phone with the checkin, I was told that I don't have enough points. Yelp checkin has nothing to do with points. There is clearly some confusion with the staff between the other Five Star rewards system and Yelp checkin. I recommend better training or removing the sign. Deducted one star for this. We've been here a few times and it always satisfied the tea/boba craving when in the area. There are multiple toppings options, regular teas, milk teas, and slushes. I also like that they have the option of sweetness levels because a lot of their drinks are too sweet if you go 100% (at least for me it's too sweet). They also have taiyaki desserts and ice cream. It always smells so good when they're making them. If you want to hang out, there is some high top seating and board games. This was my 2nd visit to Ocha Time for ice cream. I won a gift card back in May and decided to use it again. I brought a few friends with me this time to enjoy a cool refreshing dessert after dinner. We arrived shortly after 8pm and the store was not busy. The cashier had difficulty trying to enter the gift card and had to have four employees assist. After going back and forth with the staff and manager they finally allowed us to order $11 worth of ice cream. The original gift card was $25. It was rather frustrating because the manager couldn't figure out how to input the code. Because I knew it wasn't the cashiers fault we left her $5.00 tip. We ordered the Oreo taiyaki fish style ice cream cone with chocolate drizzle. I shared my dessert with my friends and they raved about the smooth texture of the ice cream. After finishing a great dinner, I opted to get dessert next door at Ocha Time due to convenience. Looking at the menu, I saw that they had taiyaki cones and decided to get one on top of some thai tea soft serve. I was pleasantly surprised by the ice cream and how accurately it tasted like thai tea. The fish-shaped pastry was made fresh and was a nice warm compliment to the cold ice cream. The team at Ocha Time were very sweet and accommodating even though I walked in roughly 45 minutes till closing. The wait for my ice cream was quick. Though, there was no one else in the store before me which probably played a factor. However, while you are waiting there are cute and small retro games on the bar that you can play. I've been waiting for this place to open ever since Cilantro Noodle opened next door! I think the concept of both of these places are great and having them linked right next to each other may be a good tactic to bring about more customers, but I think that execution could be worked on. I went to Ocha Time during their soft opening so everything was 50% off which was great! I got the taiyaki ice cream with matcha. It comes with two toppings. I asked for mochi and was told that they ran out, but that they also could not put it on the taiyaki ice cream because it would fall off. I know the taiyaki place in New York offers mochi as a topping and so do other places so I was confused why this wasn't an option as well. I settled for the basic sprinkles and two pocky sticks. My friend ordered their house milk tea with boba. As I was waiting for the taiyaki ice cream, I noticed that other customers had gotten the vanilla flavor instead of the matcha. They had pretty swirls and their taiyaki was filled with vanilla ice cream. When I got my matcha one, the swirl wasn't as big as theirs. Mine looked kind of sad in comparison to the vanilla ones I had seen. I'm not sure if it's because their matcha just can't hold the shape of the swirl well. The matcha ice cream itself was okay. It was creamy which I liked, but I wished it had more of a matcha flavor. The taiyaki part - the fish, was disappointing. I bit into it expecting for it to be soft, but it was cold and stale like it had been sitting out. My friend got her milk tea and didn't receive the boba that she had ordered so we had to wait for them to remake her drink. When she finally got it, the boba was hard and way too sweet. I'm not sure if it's because the boba was super old or if it had been refrigerated or if it just wasn't cooked properly, but either way, it was hard to consume the drink because of the hard boba. I do like that they use paper boba straws though - yay for the sea turtles! I get it - they're in the soft opening so I may give them another chance in the future, but I really can't see myself paying $6 and up for taiyaki ice cream and also having to deal with parking in this area. read more

This is the most convenient boba tea place to my house, so I checked it out for the second time ever today. First impression is that it's a good place to go if you're craving boba tea or rolled ice cream. It's attached to Cilantro Noodle, so you can make a two-for-one trip for Asian cuisine and boba tea! The parking lot is very small and it's surrounded by bars and restaurants, however they have reserved parking spots for them so that's convenient. I ordered the Dark Brown Sugar Milk Swirl with oat milk. The order came up as fast as lightening, granted there was no one there. I would definitely order it again, to prevent myself from ordering delivery at my favorite place across town, because that gets expensive. I don't think they are as generous with their boba pearls as some other places are. I usually run out of tea before pearls, and that was not the case at Ocha Time. The texture and flavor was on point though. read more
