I've passed by this place many-a-time and finally made it in for happy hour. They have $2 tapas which is a great price but you'll need a lot of them (unless you're like me and can sustain off of small portions of food) and probably will order off the $2 menu. With that said, it's a great price. The three of us had: -Vegetarian chorizo with chocolate sauce and couscous -Deviled egg with roe -3 Vegetable and goat cheese skewers -Egg, potato, onion, brava sauce, artichoke and aioli tortilla -Spanish white anchovies and mussels Everything tasted great but I would award the standouts to the vegetarian chorizo, the white anchovies and the mussels. Two of us also got sangrias and our other friend got a spicy cocktail. The bartender suggested the sangrias and frankly, my girlfriend and I were completely overwhelmed by the cocktail menu so we just went with that, but in reality, it was boring and uninspired compared to the other creative drinks. A good tapas place should know what they're doing with Tortilla Espanola... it's the equivalent of measuring a Thai restaurant by their phad thai. Anyway, the tapas I had were just so so (including the tortilla espanola), and same with the service. Meh. Kale Salad to die for... when it's there it's AMAZING so fresh that even the Kale haters of the world couldn't deny the magic of the kale Salad. Then the Mushrooms with toasts... YUMMERS... and the prawns are spicy an d to die for. Really I haven't had much in my 3 or 4 times here that wasn't less than amazing. My only compliant is it's such a small crowded space and some of the servers are not as nice as others...so depending on when I go it varies. The Happy Hour here is great as well! read more

I am so glad that this Spanish influenced tapas bar is right across the street from my home! They make unbelievable cocktails, the menu is delicious, whether you're hungry for a small bite or a meal, and the service is excellent! All of the wine is Spanish, which I LOVE! This tiny little hole-in-the-tapas-wall is really quite delectable. They have their menu scrawled up on a chalk board for all to see and pick a few dishes at a time. I love chorizo so I ordered their chorizo/egg crostini-kind of thing which was sooo good. I have had most of their menu and enjoyed them all. No bad memories of any plates. I do recall being a tad puzzled at their chocolate toast for dessert because it had fleur de sel maybe, or some kind of salt, along with chocolate and then some peppery spice in it. It was sweet & salty and then hot. I suggest giving that dish a go. They also have a $10 margarita which I believe has its share of tequila to make the price worth it. read more

Tried this place on Friday night after a super lengthy wait for a table, but it was worth it. Great tapas, delicious drinks and really sweet, funny wait staff. We pretty much tried everything; deviled eggs, roasted potatoes w/aioli, lamb meatballs, cod, chorizo w/egg, sherried mushrooms, sweet & smoky garbanzo beans plus lots & lots of Sangria Rioja, all very delicious. My only complaint was their "dessert", there was only one option I could see, a chocolate toast. It was VERY odd tasting, not sweet, just salty and spicy, not a good flavor combo on toast, but other than that, everything tasted great and the prices are good. I was surprised how small this place was but luckily I met my friend on a quiet thursday late night and parking was ample! Ocho was dimly lit and quite frankly, the signage of the restaurant was virtually hard to see! The bartender was friendly and explained the tapas menu well. There were a few misses; like the deviled egg which was boring. My friend and I enjoyed our cocktails but our favorite tapas dishes by far was the sherried mushrooms on toasted bread! Ocho has interesting tapa plates. I just don't think I have the palate for it. Our server was friendly and quick with service, but I wasn't feeling most of the plates we ordered. Oh my god. This little tapas place rocks! We tried all the veggie options and are totally in love with Ocho. Both of the mushroom dishes are to die for. We got the cheapest red wine bottle they had and it was OK. I wish more cheap wine options but the food is too good to care. It is a small place so not the best for a bigger crew. I try and be judicious about five stars I mean who ever really gets five stars but simply stated I just never leave Ocho without being supremely satisfied. The flank steak, the scallops, the broccoli are all outstanding...combine this with creative / classic cocktails and pretty darn good music on their shuffle and it's a package that's hard to beat. This place is intimate and the tables are close; but not in a crowded or annoying manner. The dishes are small and flavorful; but well portioned for sharing and never heavy with spice. The drinks are fresh and aplenty; but never too sweet or....well you can never have too many drinks can you? Welcome to Ocho where small dishes are ordered and checked off your list as you order them, almost as if you knew what you were going to order before you came through the door. You can't help but share your order with you dining mates as the dishes are almost perfectly proportioned for two and there are so many delicious items it is nearly impossible to choose what you want to try first. On a couple of occasions my dining mate and I found ourselves ordering another plate after seeing delicious plates delivered to our close table neighbors after we have decided we were done. busted my ass three times trying to find this hole in the wall place but finally did. it's next to the mexican resturant and its on the corner. about 15 feet wide and 25 feet long. visualize a small garage. if you want privacy forget this place as you are almost sharing your meal with the person in the next table or seat they said it would be great, but it was very good but not great. had 15 different tapa's and all were good tasting and delivered in a timely manner but nothing rocked the boat, but for such a small place i was surprised that there were no really bad choices. the bartender was the server and knew about each item on the list and was friendly with a good sense of humor. it's a bar that serves food, not a food place with drinks probably good for those who are living in the area, but not worth the hassle to go across town read more

Been to Ocho twice, sat at the bar both times. Great atmosphere, good food. The fried goat cheese was a favorite and the Donkey Tongue cocktail: tequila, jalepeno, pomegranate or grapefruit juice with cucumber? It's spicy and refreshing at the same time. Wife and I went to this place once, about a year and a half ago. We'll go back when we get a chance. It is a little place that was kind of cold and divey on a cool, cloudy afternoon (inside). At that time they had no decent ale, so I was stuck drinking a crappy Estrella, which is okay because that's what you're stuck drinking in Spain. This review is based solely on the service, date/blue cheese appetizer, deviled eggs, and el pisco cocktail. First of all, it took almost 10 minutes for the service to take our orders. Luckily, we were given waters promptly. Its such a small restaurant and it wasn't very busy at the time, so the service shouldn't have been that slow..but i guess things happen. But anyways, the service issue wasn't a big deal, its more so the appetizers that i got. Based off all the yelp pictures, the deviled eggs looks delish and it seems like one of the most popular items here. Meh..It wasn't anything special. The salmon roe on it was the small variety and it was a little dried out and the filling had more of a mayo like consistency/creaminess. A tad on the salty side...The flavor was just one dimensional and didn't spark my palette. NEXT. The dates stuffed with blue cheese and pancetta wrapped around it. Not what i expected. I bit into it and it reminded me of eating a big cockroach haha. It sounded like a great combo, but the dish was not very well executed.. It was too much mush ( cheese and date) and not enough crunch and saltiness (paper thin slice of pancetta). IT lacked flavor too..so i think one other element would have brightened up this dish a bit. This dish could have worked though. El pisco sour cocktail was a pretty cocktail, but tasted just okay. read more

I asked for a few recommendations for cocktails and I landed with a solid drink that fit my tastes. I ordered the Sagrada Familia and some neat mezcal. Their mezcal selection it quite good if your are into what tastes like smokey tequila. For food, I ordered the patatas bravas, spiced almonds, and croquetas borrachas. Everything tasted wonderful and was delivered in a timely fashion. If you like options and trying new things this place is the spot. This is a TINY place with lots of great small plates. Given the size of the place, I would imagine it's hell to get a seat on a weekend night but on a Tuesday night, my friend and I had no problem. The blue cheese stuffed dates are amazing! The prices seem reasonable, given the quality of the ingredients and the Happy Hour menu looked pretty appealing, though we were 5 minutes too late to take advantage. I took a friend there for her birthday and she told me that the place was very reminiscent of many a tapas bar in Spain so, they've obviously got it right. I would order the pork chop and the patatas bravas again. The half of deviled egg for three dollars although not expensive wasn't really that good. The fried cheese balls were inedible.
