I had more time to kill in Casa Grande while my son learns to drive. Ochoa's is down the street and around the corner so I stopped in for dinner. I used the restroom when I arrived and noticed that the edging was falling off the bottom of the wall. It was very quiet , no music over the speakers. The location is very dated and there is a notice on the dining room door that they are temporarily unable to serve alcohol. Once inside there was a sign to seat myself, I chose a booth towards the back. A menu, small bowl of chips, and a chilled bottle of salsa were brought out to me pretty quickly. Eventually music started playing as the dinner crowd steadily streamed in. Service was very quick and the staff are all very friendly. I ordered the number 4 combo that consisted of two cheese and onion enchiladas, rice and beans. The meal was served hot and the food stayed warm as I ate. Every bite was delicious! For desert I tried the deep fried Ice Cream, served in a fried shell, it had powdered sugar, whipped cream, chocolate drizzle and cherries on top. It was scrumptious as expected. This restaurant is tucked away off of Cottonwood and Trekkel, if you don't know it is here, you can easily miss it. This is an older building with a family restaurant vibe. The menu is extensive but I opted for their lunch special where you choose 3 items. I got 2 crispy beef tacos and a cheese and onion enchilada. I also got a side of their green chili which was fabulous! The tacos were great. I could have used a bit more zip in the enchilada sauce but it was good. The onions could also have been chopped smaller. The chips were good but they only have one type of salsa in a squeeze bottle which was just okay. Overall good food, good service and a nice lunch. read more

Not bad, but not great. Took an "old" buddy that lived in Casa Grande years ago, and he always ate at Ochoas and he wanted to go back. We stopped in for lunch and say down right away. We ordered a couple of Ice Teas and when we got our drinks we also got a small bowl of chips and some chips. Salsa was delicious, but the chips tasted "oily" and burnt. My ground beef taco was full of ground beef and wasn't bad, just nothing special. My ground beef Enchilada was also good, but not great. My family was first introduced to Ochoa's AND Mexican food in the early 60's by Calvin Ethington and family. It became our favorite destination after Sunday evening church services some 64 years ago. While we received a friendly greeting and were attended to quickly, the food was just underwhelming. I ordered the Shredded Beef Chimichanga and my wife ordered the Taco, Tostada and Flauta Combo. The shredded beef was pretty much flavorless and mostly dry on both the taco and the chimichanga. We were both wondering where seasoning was for our meals. We went here for a late lunch. It was very disappointing. I ordered the #2 combo. The taco had a lot of meat but it was plain hamburger, no seasonings. The tamale was OK, it had a lot I f beef but the masa was very thick. I couldn't see the cheese enchilada since there were so many beans, sauce and cheese covering it. I don't like when I get a plate that looks so messy you can't tell what's there. The enchilada was ok. I was very disappointed. From the outside this place looks like a dinner house. We were happy to see it open so we could try it out. We had a guest in town and that's where we decided to take him. We were a little disappointed on the inside appearance. It was nothing like we expected it to be. We had definitely been to many with better decor but it was what it was. The server was fine. My husband and I dined here for lunch on Monday 2/20/23. The building and sign are very modest and it's easy to miss it. Walking in, we notice the smell of yummy Mexican food we are about to enjoy. The dinning room is clean and decorated with minimal pizazz but lower overhead allows for their super low price. I had a shredded beef chimichanga w green enchilada sauce. I was excellent! Seeing as how I've been here multiple times, the only rating that seems fitting is the four star 'yay! I'm a fan' rating. In their adherence to regional style (sonoran style cuisine), Ochoa's par for the course. Decent-to-good red chile, good enchilada sauce, super-econo lunch special (not plural). Their lunch special consists of a choice of three items from the usual list of suspects: cheese enchilada, tostada, taco (soft or crispy), tamale, rice or beans. I think there are a few other choices. What's nice is you can simply get three tacos and no rice or beans, if you're not one to eat rice and beans. Or you can get two cheese enchiladas and rice. Whatever. The lunch special will run you about $6 plus a drink. In terms of location, good luck finding this place if you're not from the area. Atmosphere? It's a dive, no bells or whistles. Both of these aspects are major pluses in my book. Also, anytime I've been here the service is fast. I've had my meal within ten minutes (or less) from the time I've ordered it. And it's been served with the cliche' adage, "These plates are hot so be careful." On the down side, the salsa is hit or miss. There have been a couple times when I've been there when the salsa tasted like it could have been expired. Then again, I went the other day and it was fresh. You'll be able to tell. It hasn't stopped me from returning. Now then, if it's just you and an acquaintance and you want to try a spot that is 'authentic' and low key, this is the place. Now, one would think that since I'm from Tucson, there should be good mexican food right? There are, but not as good as Ochoa's! For me, It's all about the Tacos. Ground beef tacos (crunchy shell) with a side of rice, and cherry RC to drink. It's bliss. The ground beef is well seasoned and I have yet to come across a place that offers well seasoned meat that can be found at Ochoa's. The rice is perfectly cooked and has the right amount of salt. I called and asked for a reservation because we were coming on Valentine's Day- not needed normally, but I'm glad I did. It was very busy when we got there 10 minutes early and they had a table ready with a reservation sign on it. Our service was amazing and our food came very quickly for such a busy time. We LOVE the Ethington Special here, and when I asked them to make sure there was cheese on top - well, look at the photo. Probably the best sit down Mexican food spot in town. Service can be spotty, but the food is very good. Their enchilada sauce and salsa is delicious and I've never really had anything I don't like. It's not fancy by any means and could use a face lift, but it's classic southwest Mexican food.
