Update: I visited the ER this week with a pretty serious problem. I got there around 11:00 pm and did not get in a room to see a doctor until 4:00 am. The only phrase I could use to describe that night is shit show. There was a lot that happened but the most appalling is the fact that they were seeing flu symptom patients before severe bleeding and head lacerations/head trauma. The head laceration/ head trauma was there before me and 2 1/2 hours later (so longer for him) he began acting crazy and couldn't even speak. He did not recognize his own name. It was only then that he got seen by a doctor. I had severe bleeding (as result of a surgery complication) and sat there 5 hours. I thought that one of the points of triage was to determine who needed to be seen right away. Idk what was going on!

Kenner Regional is now Ochsner Medical Center-Kenner, part of the Ochsner Health System

Since the hospital was purchased by Ochsner, conditions have improved. There's still quite a ways to go, but believe me it's much better, along with its safety record. I should know, I work in the Adminstration department. This hospital has always been a small, community place that serves the Kenner area. You can get seen quickly in the ER , which has saved me twice in the last 2 years. I've usually gone in the past to EJGH, but since I started working at Ochsner-Kenner I've started going there. Deep down inside, I miss Charity believe it or not.

From my initial check-in with Ms. Mickey to the pre-operative care provided by Ms. Regina and the recovery nurse, Ms. Breann, the experience was exceptionally pleasant. The staff made the entire process significantly easier to manage. While I was aware of what to expect during recovery, their efforts to ensure my comfort were truly commendable. Dr. Gurtner is an excellent physician, and I appreciate her straightforward approach to my condition. She ensured I was well-informed about the procedure, although, of course, no preparation can fully account for the postoperative period. The staff at SMH East consistently provides healthcare services of the highest quality. I have been a patient at these two hospitals since the 1970s, and the standard of care has remained consistently excellent, regardless of the name change.

If I could give negative stars I would!…read more I went to the Ochsner Metairie Emergency Room because I had a seizure, and I would rather die on the street or at my desk than ever go back to that location. As soon as they wheeled me in, I couldn't believe what I was seeing. You couldn't even walk through the hallways because they were completely full of stretchers and beds with patients lying in them. Not the waiting room. The hallways. People were bleeding, passed out, sleeping, and waiting for care. It looked like something straight out of The Walking Dead. I've never seen anything like it. I understand emergency rooms get busy. One of the staff members told me they had just received a large influx of patients within the last 30 minutes. I can understand that. What I can't understand is the quality of care. One staff member came to talk to me, and I asked for a cup of ice. She said, "Okay, I'll be right back." I never saw her again. I sat in that exact same spot for over 30 minutes. It's not like I had been moved and she couldn't find me. She simply never came back. Then it was time to draw my blood and start an IV. Before he even touched me, I told him I have rolling veins and that I'm a difficult stick. I specifically asked him not to fish with the needle. I told him that if he had to fish, I'd rather someone else try. He joked, "I ain't got no bait," trying to be funny. Then he proceeded to do exactly what I asked him not to do. He kept fishing around in my vein with the needle. Usually, if my vein rolls, people stop, remove the needle, and try again or get someone else. He didn't. He just kept digging around. After several minutes, I told him to stop because I didn't want him doing it anymore. He kept saying, "If you don't want me to do something, I won't do it," but by that point, the damage was already done. I grabbed my things, called an Uber, and left. I'm not saying every Ochsner facility is like this because I honestly don't know. I'm talking about the Metairie Emergency Room. Between the overcrowded hallways, the lack of communication, and the way I was treated, this was one of the worst healthcare experiences I've ever had. No one seeking emergency care should have to go through what I experienced.

Staff was very nice. Only 3 people should be in the lobby at a time. We were there a little longer than anticipated but they were trying to be efficient with getting everything they needed. Towards the end, I asked if I could clean without having to wait for the response in person since I am signed up for their MyChart account and they said yes. My toddler was getting reallllllly antsy! They said there were 7 people ahead of me and it would be about an hour and a half wait. I was wheezing, lethargic, running fever and felt like I could not stand up. This must have put the receptionist off because she was very cold and rude, though I witnessed her being sweet as can be to the woman in front of me. I called the call center after a few hours and they said there were six people in front of me. I started to wonder if the receptionist was dropping my name on the list, for what reason, I'll never know. After 3 hours I called and explained that I thought my name was being dropped down the list (there were 5 people in-front of me at this point). The call center connected me with my receptionist friend and she said there was only 1 person in-front of me now. Wow, how did that happen? I arrived at 2pm and did not make it to the back until 5pm and I was done around 7. It was a long day that I wished I was in bed, but I'm glad I went. Once I left the reception area, each person was nicer than the next. They gave me a breathing treatment, antibiotics for bronchitis that lasted 3 weeks, and an inhaler to get me through the wheezing. It was a pain getting there, dealing with a rude receptionist and waiting when I felt so awful, but in the end the doctor and staff in the back were wonderful.
