An appointment with Dr. Berenson was made for 9:00 AM and he was right on time. He spent approximately 45 minutes speaking with my wife and getting to the root of the problem. Dr. Berenson was calming and at no point did my wife feel rushed. He provided much useful information and he patiently answered every question. He provided two prescriptions for pickup at a nearby pharmacy and even offered to speak to our primary care physician back home if required. Dr. Berenson was comforting and effective during a frightening time far from home. I highly recommend him.

The staff made the entire process significantly easier to manage. While I was aware of what to expect during recovery, their efforts to ensure my comfort were truly commendable. Dr. Gurtner is an excellent physician, and I appreciate her straightforward approach to my condition. She ensured I was well-informed about the procedure, although, of course, no preparation can fully account for the postoperative period. The staff at SMH East consistently provides healthcare services of the highest quality. I have been a patient at these two hospitals since the 1970s, and the standard of care has remained consistently excellent, regardless of the name change.

As soon as they wheeled me in, I couldn't believe what I was seeing. You couldn't even walk through the hallways because they were completely full of stretchers and beds with patients lying in them. Not the waiting room. The hallways. People were bleeding, passed out, sleeping, and waiting for care. It looked like something straight out of The Walking Dead. I've never seen anything like it. I understand emergency rooms get busy. One of the staff members told me they had just received a large influx of patients within the last 30 minutes. I can understand that. What I can't understand is the quality of care. One staff member came to talk to me, and I asked for a cup of ice. She said, "Okay, I'll be right back." I never saw her again. I sat in that exact same spot for over 30 minutes. It's not like I had been moved and she couldn't find me. She simply never came back. Then it was time to draw my blood and start an IV. Before he even touched me, I told him I have rolling veins and that I'm a difficult stick. I specifically asked him not to fish with the needle. I told him that if he had to fish, I'd rather someone else try. He joked, "I ain't got no bait," trying to be funny. Then he proceeded to do exactly what I asked him not to do. He kept fishing around in my vein with the needle. Usually, if my vein rolls, people stop, remove the needle, and try again or get someone else. He didn't. He just kept digging around. After several minutes, I told him to stop because I didn't want him doing it anymore. He kept saying, "If you don't want me to do something, I won't do it," but by that point, the damage was already done. I grabbed my things, called an Uber, and left. I'm not saying every Ochsner facility is like this because I honestly don't know. I'm talking about the Metairie Emergency Room. Between the overcrowded hallways, the lack of communication, and the way I was treated, this was one of the worst healthcare experiences I've ever had. No one seeking emergency care should have to go through what I experienced.

So with that being the case, your choices are Ochsner or Ochsner or Ochsner, yeah. Post-Katrina, I have visited this facility more times than I care to mention, either with a relative or a friend. And this time is no different, I'm here with a relative. Review time: Entering the ER triage, we were immediately told to take the elevator to the 8th floor... No reference to which set of elevators... Guess me, my in active labor, aminotic sac ruptured preggo sis & her bestie have to figure it out... Ummm ok. Next we get to the area where she's "to be admitted" & no1 is there to greet us. Sooooo I pushed the "no admittance doors" and admitted, ha... Lol (classic me). So we fiiiind the nurse station... because there was no welcoming committee & then we're wheeled to yet another area. Upon arrival in the L&D triage area, "the correct place" (ER personnel sent us to the post delivery area, we needed pre delivery) we finally get some treatment & attention. She's admitted & we meet a myriad of people, some with great bedside manners & some not so great. Namely, Drs Moore, Pullman, Jordan & Super Nurses Brooke & Emma, ALL members of #teamoutstanding... and then the members of #teamNOTsogreat, well they shall remain nameless. Of course other sick children join us, one of which was covered in a rash. I was worried about him catching something else. We waited in there for so long. It was his snack time and I had brought and fed him his snack. Finally we get called to a room. The nurse takes his vitals and says someone will be in soon. An hour later we are still waiting. My 1 year old is getting restless so I start walking the halls with him. This went on for another 30 min. We'd walk the halls and go back to his room and repeat. On one of out walks I witness the NP go into a room with a family who had come long after us. I question one of the medical assistants and find out the NP has been seeing patients in the wrong order. She profusely apologizes and goes get the NP and tells her to come see us. The NP was extremely unprofessional. She came in and sat on the counter propping her feet up. She never apologized for seeing us so late. My 1 year old who is now tired and hungry starts playing with her shows because she has her feet propped up. I keep telling him to stop and she is laughing thinking it is cute. Her of all people should know he shouldn't be touching dirty shoes, especially not in a doctor office. Then on top of all that, she keeps asking questions I answered already like she just didnt remember. She also told me keep giving him his Zeytec that she saw in the computer he was on. So I inform her that it's Zantac for his acid reflux. She said oh it's okay, they all do the same thing. Wait, what?! Anyways, I'm done with that place.
