Great little zoo, many animals. Check out the schedule to see a list of programs. I enjoyed the bear.

We were exploring Baraboo and ran into this little gem! It took less than an hour to go through, but my little one could have spent half the day feeding the goats!

Thank you for all those sponsee who help fund this free zoo. I'm glad we stopped to see all the beautiful flowers and many animals all for FREE. It was an experience to see the bear enjoy eating from the tree and the wolves being protective of their dens. And they had a BALD EAGLE! How cool.

Not a particularly glamorous or large zoo, but free is nice. It's awkwardly placed in a pretty residential area and almost has a park feel to it. The prairie dog exhibit is pretty cute.

I'm always torn on zoos, as they are essentially jails for animals convicted of no crimes. But I love seeing animals and if I don't pay for it than I feel somewhat absolved of any moral culpability. The animals seemed to be in good shape. The zoo is tiny, and thus the cages could be bigger, but you can see they are working on that. The animals seem adapted to these conditions, like how the deer and wolves come right up and follow you around. Course maybe I was visiting around feeding time. The only animals that aren't adapted to Wisconsin winters are the monkeys, but they were either inside or offsite when I visited. They have a machine that will sell you some food for the goats and such, so you can get some farm animal petting action too. There is a parking lot and street parking available. I think I'll return on my next Dells trip, and visit my homies on the inside.

    Big bad prairie dog, 7/21/08

This is a tiny, free zoo that sometimes has more animals on display than others. The animals include a goat, timber wolves, capuchin monkeys, a couple of llamas, a black bear, some birds, and a bunch of deer. The prairie dogs, of which there are many, are a highlight - check out the bad boy in the picture. As you might guess from that image, there are grain dispensers throughout the zoo that accept quarters. The bear seems like a nice guy, but the goat wasn't accepting visitors when I tried to stop by. There's a little snack bar on one side of the zoo. The habitats are OK - unlike many, these don't make me overly sad. It's a nice place to visit, but you don't need to spend more than 15-20 minutes here because there's really not all that much to see.

I love this little zoo. The animals seem content. Very walkable zoo. Friendly people. I've been here twice when visiting Wisconsin.

The guy driving the train was great. He was funny, and clearly enjoyed his job. One of the girls in the gift shop was wonderfully engaging with our granddaughter - One of the most pleasant people we encountered during out visit. I wish I'd gotten her name. Everyone we encountered was great, except for two... Despite two out of the three attendants being sullen and seemingly not enjoying their jobs, the granddaughter loved the rides she took on the camel and the pony.

The general admission is different from the train ride it's an additional fee but the train ride is worth it because you go to an enclosure and the llamas would just go near you so you can feed them so make sure you have carrots or feeds when you go into the train ride. Also after the train ride you can go into the parakeet section and you will pass by the nursery where the animal encounters are at and there are also a bunch of goats that you can feed so if you want to make sure that you still have some carrots for them. You can easily spend all your day here but I have to use probably enough depending on how crowded the place is. There were also some camels and giraffes to feed although I wasn't lucky to catch the giraffe outside. Also saw some Camel rides and some pony rides. I will definitely be coming back in for sure next time I will try the animal encounters specifically the sloth encounter in the red panda encounter seems interesting. Happy exploring!

My mother had never rode a horse and she wanted to check it off her bucket list. Canyon Creek…read moreRiding Stable was the closest horseback riding activity near our hotel. Initially you pay and sign waivers at a small building and the actual stable where you ride the horses is right across the street. I paid a little over $50 for the both of us, at the stable you walk onto a tall platform where the employees walk a horse up to you and you get on. My mother got a horse named Pepper and I got a horse named Scrappy (his name is quite suiting). This experience reminded me of why I don't like riding horses and why I hope to never ride one again. Although, they are beautiful and majestic Mr. Scrappy made it very clear that he was the one in charge lol. Despite my efforts to steer him with the reins, Scrappy was in his own little world. He would sometimes stop in the middle of the trail and when I gently kicked his side he just looked at me like I was stupid from his peripheral, he would turn completely around and just stand still facing away from the rest of the group, he would leave the single file line to grab a little snack (the surrounding plants), and he kept invading Pepper's personal space by walking too closely behind him/her. Scrappy was beautiful but he terrified me lol. (Obviously, the staff can't control the horse's behavior, this portion of the review is not reflected in the rating). The trail was beautiful and we even got the opportunity to see some deer. I agree with previous reviews about the animatronics being too much or a little tacky. I just think they're unnecessary, the trail is beautiful in itself, no need for the extra props. I definitely feel like you get your money's worth, the ride last about an hour, no exaggeration. Unfortunately for me I was ready to get off Scrappy 15 mins into the walk lol. I've seen some reviews complaining about the staff not being friendly, I have to disagree. I never felt like the staff was being rude. However, some Horses did have a bad cough including Scrappy (for the first portion of the trail), additionally the staff is really strict about taking pictures, I'm not sure why. It's unfortunate I couldn't take pictures of Scrappy or the trail. After Horseback riding you have the opportunity to checkout the petting zoo. They recommend you go to the petting zoo after riding with the horses because apparently the horses don't like the smell of the other animals (which mostly consist of goats and I saw 1 donkey). All in all Canyon Creek is really good for beginner riders and first timers. Staff is friendly, and the trail is pretty. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

Then a man yelled at me for having my phone out and said no pictures or videos with the horses and was so mean about it. Our guide didn't talk at all with us, my horse that I was riding with my 4 year old was trouble, nearly took us over the side of the trail and into the trees, my sunglasses and Lululemon hat fell off near the beginning of the trail and the staff refused to allow me to go back for it. I left my phone number with them saying I really would like my belongings returned and they told me it's gone you won't get it back. The petting farm was a joke with only 3 goats and a donkey and 3 bunnies. I was so disappointed that I wasn't allowed to capture my girls riding their first horse and was told I needed to pay $35 dollars for 3 5x7 pictures that looked like they were printed on paper from a computer printer. This business had such poor costumer service and I felt really taken advantage of.

It's not exactly like a zoo either but it does have all the crane species here and the experiences feel up close and personal. Me and my wife came here to experience this place since this is kind of part of our Wisconsin Dells visit. The admission fee is fair for what you purchase. What I like about this place compared to your typical Zoo is that it's not full of people at all. There's limited parking and a money goes towards helping the cranes and helping their population grow. There's a lot to learn about the rich history of this species also there are plenty of short Trails too there's not any concession stands for food here at all which isn't a big deal at all either it's not a place that you need to check on every exhibit it's probably a hour hour to a hour and a half visit typically.
