I got something in my eye yesterday & couldn't get it out on my own. I've gone to OCLI's Pt Jeff location, but the soonest appt was in E. Setauket with Valentina Blaine OD. when I arrived, I did the self check in at the kiosk and waited in the lobby. I could hear the reception area and how much fun all the staff was having, they seem to be extremely friendly, which is a far cry from the Port Jeff staff. IJS. When I was called into the office, the nursing staff that I encountered was extremely friendly and very nice. The doctor came in, put drops in & examined both my eyes. She then asked me if I had allergies and I told her yes, I take Claritin daily. She asked me if I ever take eye drops I said no need to since Claritin works. She stood up as I was still leaning forward with my chin in the cup for the exam. Valentina said "I don't see anything, OK?" I reiterated that "Something is still in my eye, and it has nothing to do with allergies". I specifically remember when the object hit my eye. Valentina reiterated the same and then left the exam room. I walked out confused. Never in my life have I ever had a doctor not have a plan or remedy. Even if they had no clue of a diagnosis for a patient. Her behavior was atypical at best. I went to the receptionist & asked if she could find out if there was any type of tx plan for me. She returned & told me to get eye drops. When I asked for some, she said OCLI doesn't have ANY samples to give me. I left in the same condition that I arrived in. I called OCLI on the phone and told them about what happened and I don't think it's fair that I didn't even get my eye flushed. I was placed on hold and office mgr Jackie spoke to me on the phone and tried to encourage me to return to the office to get further assistance. I told her no thank you, and referenced how I wouldn't even return food in a restaurant; I'd rather leave due to poor service. I told her I will go to the urgent care and get the proper treatment, which I did and everything is great! I called my insurance company and told them that I don't think OCLI should be paid for this visit. I was told that I can appeal the decision of the visit when they see the claim, which I may do. I will make sure anyone that I know is aware of the treatment that I received from Valentina Blaine OD. I would never give her the satisfaction to be called a doctor. She should be embarrassed & ashamed of the way she treated me as a patient with such dismissiveness. Valentina Blaine was a disgraceful experience that I wouldn't wish on any patient. I will never return to OCLI because of Valentina Blaine & how disgustingly she treated me as a patient. I question if she even took an ethical oath when she got her license to practice. She needs retraining or needs to return for internship to see how it's properly done. Sad that she's part of Catholic Health Services. Her morals need to be reevaluated. read more

Pack a lunch snacks and water! You are going to be camped out there waiting for your appointment all day! Minimum 4 hours they say because p they are a specialist office that all specialist officers take at least 4 to 6 hours for appointments! And now my $40 co-pay has turned into $100 co-pay because they want you to make up for what insurance won't pay them! read more

This is the worst possible Ophthalmologist practice that you can choose for your eye care. OCLI Vision is all about profits over patient care. Their doctors are incompetent, waiting rooms overcrowded and patient care is sub-standard. I went to 7 separate appointments and they treated a symptom and not the actual problem with my eye. I made an appointment at a different eye doctor and they diagnosed my condition correctly and established an effective treatment plan on the first visit. OCLI Vision doctors will not provide the level of professional care that you expect and you will wind up wasting your time and money. I can't imagine what it would be like having them perform laser surgery if they can't even diagnose and treat dry eye correctly. Do yourself a favor and book any other Ophthalmologist than OCLI Vision. read more

Stay away from doctor El Baba. In early 2020 I went to CLI because I was having problems with blurry vision. I was 48 years old and I've never even worn a pair of glasses, yet I was having an issue reading things on my cell phone with a white background. I had a bunch of scans done and was scheduled to come back to have them interpreted and COVID hit. No one contacted me from O CLI for months, but when they did they made a follow up appointment and I attended. This was the beginning of a very bad experience for me. First and foremost For the first time in my life I had to have my eyes dilated. I asked the technician if it would be safe to drive home after having my eyes dilated and he said that it would not be a problem at all. Wrong, I suffer from car accident related PTSD and yet I had to drive home almost 50% blind and unable to read my GPS. When I got home I immediately had my wife sign on to Google and I wrote a review on the dangerous situation that O CLI technicians put me through and my whole ordeal. I received a phone call within minutes. This was great, they were accountable and professional and actually had the technician apologized to me in a sincere and genuine manner. I was impressed. So I decided to return. What a big mistake. The next time I returned I was informed that I had stargardt's disease or macular dystrophy. I was introduced to this energetic and very positive doctor by the name of fadi al Baba. Doctor El Baba was very open and honest with me he told me he was pretty much sure that I had star guards disease and when I asked him about stargardt's disease he pretty much told me that I was lucky, I was supposed to get star guards in my teens and I should have been pretty much blind from there on out. He was enamored by the fact that I got it at 48 years old and then handed me a genetic testing kit and informed me that star guards is from a small area in Italy and he would be very interested in knowing if my mutation came from that area in Italy. We continued our conversation and he told me that there were no treatments for stargardt's disease the only thing that I can do is go to a low vision specialist and the geneticist and that they can assist me in building skills to manage what little eyesight I had left in my left eye and to get better use out of my right eye. He was also very honest in stating that the only possible treatment for me would be research based and that he was not impressed with any of the data he has seen from any of the research studies being conducted. I went back to two more appointments within that year and I never completed the DNA test. Why? Because to be honest with you it really wasn't important to me for him to know what part of Italy my disease came from. When I told him my rationale behind not getting the test he told me that I was disabling myself from getting involved with any research studies. The light bulb went off. I never realized or was I told that the reason he wanted the DNA testing done was because knowing what mutation and variant I had would open me up to a plethora of research studies. Once I was told that they could not fix my eyes, but they could help me with stopping my right eye from degenerating and I could maintain a decent level of functioning I immediately had the DNA test done and had the results forwarded to doctor El Baba. I called the office three times after I forwarded the results and they never responded. So, I figured I would speak to him about it in my next session. In my next session he verified that yes I did have stargardt's disease and that he was sorry to inform me that there were no solid research studies on stargardt's disease because it's a rare eye condition and that the studies being done on macular dystrophy had not been promising. However, he asked me if I was motivated to engage in any research study that might help me. I immediately said of course. He told me he would research the different studies and get back to me within the next week. I never heard back from him. I called there twice and left messages, he never called back. At this point my twin sister was also diagnosed which star guards disease. Luckily, she went to a different doctor at O CLI because she lived in a different neighborhood. At the same time I had an appointment with doctor albawaba. I informed him about my twin sister and he was very intrigued to find out the difference between my genetic results and hers. He also scanned my eyes again and indicated that he would locate a research study for me. Meanwhile, my sister is on her third appointment with another ocli Dr. And she was already signed up for a research study that has been shown to be effective in three out of every five people for minimizing the degeneration that star guards causes. Can't stand all these groups buying up medical and dental practices and creating little chain businesses! When you go to OCLI, prepare for a cold experience marked by corporate efficiency that begins the moment you check in for your appt on their kiosk. (And let me note that kiosks are not the best ideas for the visually impaired.) I've been to this office three times after relocating to Long Island. First time I struggled to get the opthalmologist, Dr. Oats, to pay attention to the swelling of the eyelids I had - though it was my primary complaint - and I had to ask after the exam for him to look again after the lights were back on. Afterward a prescription for drops was supposed to be called in to my pharmacy. I called the office 3 days later because it hadn't been called in. They said they would do it. Two days later, it still wasn't done. Called again. Then they called in the wrong drug - an antibiotic ointment that I didn't need, instead of a steroid. OCLI also charged me for a refraction which my plan covers. I was told they would give me a credit if the insurance company paid. When the insurance company paid, they put a credit on my account instead of crediting the money back to my card. Had to chase them around to get the credit done properly. Separately, I also saw their retinal specialist - Dr. Laud - who barely acknowledged me as a person. If you go in, you have to ask questions or he will direct all conversation to his assistant as he reads out particulars of your exam for her to type in your file. Also, beware, he does not write prescriptions and will not help you with any other issue with your eyes besides doing a retinal exam. From what I can tell, it is some weird thing because he's the retinal specialist. He clearly is an opthalmologist and could write scripts for patients in need if he wanted to but it's his "policy" not to. After seeing Dr. Laud, OCLI sent me a bill for a few hundred dollars instead of submitting to my insurance company as they had just done two months early. Had to sort that out too. So not-so-caring doctors and cold bureaucracy is what I found here. I'm looking for another retinal specialist and ophthalmologist. read more

Incredible! Beyond incredible staff, state of the art doctors! I always feel like family when I am at OCLI East Setauket. I go every four weeks and am always personally greeted by all staff. My anxiety of going completely disappears with the care of the staff at OCLI East Setauket! My eye care has been amazing. My doctor has kept me on track to restore my diminished eye sight. Beware of this facility. Their standard wait time for patients is one and a half hours. You will be seen by a doctor for no more than 15 minutes. If you have more than 2 hours to spare out of your day, then go ahead. I have been here three times and most of the time I was confined to a small waiting room for over an hour.
