I went to both locations and had a couple of different PAs before I met Brooke Lee. Since then she has been my go to medical professional. She is so caring and compassionate, and very thorough. She is always upbeat and doesn't rush through appointments. This is the most despicable practice I have ever been to. I used to see Dr. Hackenyos who passed away unfortunately a couple of years back. I loved him. So I went for my first annual physical since he passed. Saw a Physician's Assistant. She was nice but did nothing special other than review my bloodwork, which I had already reviewed as well. Everything was normal outside of my cholesterol, which was 103 versus a normal range of 65-100...so slightly above normal, but by the PA's words, nothing to be concerned with. Got the bill and Medicare covered the annual physical. however there was an additional $176 cost that Medicare did NOT cover. It was coded as an "extended visit". I was there 20 minutes and we discussed my bloodwork. That was it. I called the office and told them I would not pay for a service that was not provided. The office (Debbie Carlon) said they would send me to collections and charge me $40. I said "Go for it". Shortly thereafter I noticed four (4) additional charges of $50, once per month, coded as "Chronic Care" that had also been submitted to Medicare. I emailed Debbie and she responded with a copy of this financial agreement (attached) that I had to sign in order to be seen by the PA for my annual physical. Like most people, I didn't read it thoroughly as I believed it was typical language about my financial responsibilities to pay on time. However, you will notice the last paragraph (highlighted) which indicates that I agree to be charged every month (no pricing provided) for Chronic care. Turns out they charge medicare $50 every month even though they don't see nor speak to me. This is an immoral practice that accepts medicare but because medicare doesn't pay as much as most insurance providers, looks for ways to scam the system. I should have switched providers last year when they made me return for a second pap due to using an expired lab container--without so much as an apology or acknowledgment of their mistake. This year, I returned for my annual visit, now as a self-pay patient. When I called ahead, I was told the visit would cost $65 at check-in but could be more depending on the level of detail. My appointment lasted under 30 minutes, during which the PA spent most of the time typing on the computer with minimal engagement. Basic health questions--such as diet, exercise, or lifestyle habits--were never asked, and no physical exam (beyond checking my lungs and ears) was conducted, which is highly unusual compared to past annuals. Then came the billing nightmare. I was charged another $30 at checkout, which I paid. Later that same day, they called demanding another $65, without explanation--just "you owe it, pay on our website." No bill was ever sent, and their website does not even show a balance. This office has shown a complete lack of accountability, professionalism, and transparency--from careless lab mistakes to questionable billing practices and subpar care. Ive been going here 5 plus years. Sadly, Dr Vlahos left for family reasons. As far as patient service, getting in touch with office/staff and friendliness, it needs improvement. I stayed because I was established. I live next to Gilbert office but they are rude so I go to Chandler office. My new female Dr A. is very nice and she took her time during my physical. Unfortunately, she wasn't available and I saw PA-Meghan, last Monday for pre op appt. She was nice and we spoke about my needed procedure for extreme pain. All pre op was completed same day. EKG was good and labs came back next day on Tue. in my email. Here were it all goes horribly wrong: Office claimed labs came in Thr and PA did not review them. Then I was told she was out on Fridays and will see them Monday. Monday comes and she still had not signed off. Why? This is extremely concerning because all the information is there, my surgery Dr had the results too - except PA signature clearing me fir surgery. This office was called multiple times by myself and the surgical Office. What reasons could they possibly have... Lazy...Careless? The "office manager" was not empathetic when I explained how this delay was hindering my health. I call again on Tuesday morning and assured at 10am by the " office manager " again the documents were in her hand and they'd be sent end of day. No Information was not sent! Wednesday, the release was sent, and my procedure was scheduled instantly. Why the delay? I'm not saying this was vindictive but my health, and the competency of this office is/was negligent. I have only been a patient for a couple of years and don't have any major health issues, but I very much appreciate the care team here, including the administrative staff. Everyone has been friendly and accommodating. I've never felt rushed when being seen and all questions are answered thoroughly. If you receive a bill in the mail that surprises you from this office, I suggest paying it immediately in person with a witness. Even if $1.00 goes to collections (which happens quicker than a patient might think), they WILL kick you out of their practice. It does not matter how LONG you've been a patient or how MUCH they say you owe. What a terrible business. They left me high and dry on my psychiatric maintenance medication. Terrible business practice. In addition, one doctor in particular here seems to think that just eating fruit for breakfast will cure all your ills. After more than 10 years as a good, insured, paying patient of this practice, I received a certified letter in the mail notifying me that I was no longer a patient. No detail, no explanation. Upon calling the office, I was informed that I was "in collections" over a past due co-pay. Why was this co-pay not collected at the time of the appt. like every other time? Are your long time patients so worthless to you that you would cancel them over a past due bill when my long history with the practice would show that I always pay my co-pays? So I have paid the last due bill (of course because I have never been a delinquent!) and am still told I can no longer remain a patient. Truly an unreal, disappointing experience with a practice I have been with for a very, very long time. I am writing this review as the daughter/caretaker of a (former) patient of OIMA. My parent had been a patient for many years and had seen Megan Guse. My parent spent the last two months dealing with a serious health crisis, was in the hospital (three times) and in skilled nursing -- and all of these places were informed of my parent's provider at OIMA. Did the provider or OIMA ever reach out to check on my parent? No. Not even once. Not a letter, call or text. Last week, my parent did receive one letter stating $45 was owed in past co-pays. Yes, $45. Ok. I wondered myself (as others have) WHY this wasn't collected at the time of service. Seriously. Why not? I was trying to figure out how to pay (I am not the one who usually handles my parent's bills) and the doorbell rang. It was -- as others have recounted -- a *certified letter* that I had to sign for, stating that "This letter is to inform you that we will no longer provide medical care for you. If you require emergency care only within the next 30 days we will be available to provide it, but during that time you should find a new primary care physician. Please contact your insurance company for assistance in finding a new doctor." Huh? Seriously? After many years of being a patient? Over $45. Not exactly a caring practice from what I have experienced or seen -- not a care at all that my parent was gravely ill, not a bit of concern about hospitalizations -- GOT my parent's first name WRONG on the letter -- and sent this certified mail to an elderly, ill person. I have been a patient of this practice for a couple of years now. PA Nelson and I had established a great relationship. I got a notice of a certified letter recently and called the office immediately, to no avail, but left a message. Never receiving the official letter, still. I expected the post office would make a second attempt. My husband in the interim, made a payment of $70 within this timeframe (mid July - current) from an outstanding balance, as he was going through mail to make payments. I had a few messages prior that an upcoming appt in September made 6 months ago, needed to be rescheduled, and this is what I assumed the calls and notices were pertaining to. I reached out today to update the upcoming appt when I was advised that I was no longer a patient, as I have been dismissed. I didn't engage much with the receptionist, because she was simply delivering a message. I asked who I needed to speak with about this decision. She advised the office manager "Emily" could return my call, and a few hours later, she contacted me. I went back and forth with her about this, and advised her it was unintentional, but why do they never collect a payment at time of service of before I leave? Yes it is my responsibility to pay my bills, but this was a bill from JUNE 2024. She was unwavering, and said that I'm not sure what staff was here that day and why they didn't take your payment, but it is per their policy that if it happens twice, you are dismissed. How TERRIBLE IS THAT?? I don't go where I'm not wanted, but the relationship I had established with my PA with a prior lengthy poor health in the past, this was unbelievable. I asked for her superior. She said this is policy and there was no undoing the decision. I asked for specific dates of payments going to collections, which were Jan 24, paid in March and then again in June, paid in August 24. How appalling? Emily had no compassion for the matter and seemed to take satisfaction, weirdly, for dismissing patients. I even called back and asked for access to my health records, where I was then told she could send me a form to fill out but advised me I'd have to pay $25 for my records. You're ridding me, but I need to pay you for my health records?? I am convinced whoever this Emily is, could be borderline miserable, but I'm curious to know after reading other reviews here identical to my situation, do the owners of this practice even know what is happening? And whose hands is happening in. I shed tears and lost my cool, but it felt like an attack and was unacceptable!!!! read more

You can find a better provider elsewhere. My primary complaint is their business office who thinks it's ok to harass my cell phone with robot-spam calls over a few dollars of outstanding deductible. I received daily calls from their robot. The business manager had a nasty attitude about it, saying that's just the way it is now. I was a bit casual about paying the last few dollars, because I wasn't impressed by the last few visits. They were virtual and it seemed to me they required a formal appointment for even a small follow up question. That had not been the case before. So, it seemed they were "all about the money". In my approximate 10 years, I never saw a doctor, always PA's. That alone always bugged a bit, because that also gave me the impression that they were rubbing the nickels together. The original founder of Ocotillo Internal Medicine, Dr. Hakenyos was not only my doctor he was someone I considered a friend. He passed away from a tough battle with cancer. Since his departure from the practice it's been ran into the ground. High clinician turnover, difficulty getting g scripts filled, no communication, etc. I also got sent to collections over a bill I didn't even know I owed. Never got anything in the mail nor a phone call. Yet the collection agency called me and easily paid them over the phone. ****FRAUDULENT BILLING PRACTICES *** OIMA scams insurance companies & messes with patients medical records by fraudulent claims billing practices as many reviews explain. They have billed my BCBS Anthem 9 times from Aug-Nov for my daughter and she had 2 visits & they billed BCBS multiple times for me from 6/2022-10/2022 and I didn't even go to that practice any longer. They did this to my older daughter two yrs ago until I confronted them and advised my then BCBS of MI to investigate as they were all fraudulent claims. The billing person lists a practitioner name of Cheryl Maurice, which im fairly certain is the owners name and definitely nobody we have ever seen. They also listed made up diagnoses such as major depressive disorder, insomnia, cystocele...all of which are false and lies as I didn't even go to them let alone have any of the issues now listed in my BCBS medical records. They have fraudulently added these to my medical history on fictitious dated claims in order to bill my insurance company when I wasn't even a patient there any longer & also did this to my daughter. I will be filing complaint with AZ Medical Board, BCBS and all other medical and business organizations that should be aware of this. I've been a patient here for over 10 years. I'm on Medicare and I was seen in September 2022. In December 2022 I received a certified letter stating they would no longer treat me with no explanation. A few days letter I get a collection notice for $75. I've never received a bill from the practice. I called my Medicare supplement and they told me I should not have been billed for this service. Is this practice in financial trouble? They don't send a bill but send you to collections? What despicable business practices. I was really looking forward to becoming a life-long patient, but that was cut very short. I had been going to see Dr. Drew Hall for about a year and actually saw him 3 times. Long story short, I can concur the other low ratings for this practice. 1. Really difficult to get same day appointments if you are feeling sick/under the weather. 2. Appointments are typically a month out, as in 30+ days. 3. Front office NEEDS customer service training. They are the "welcoming" party to all patients that walk in to the practice. 4. Office invoices are "collected" by several PHONE calls, instead of a paper one. 5. I have personally witnessed front staff berate a patient that was a few minutes late, when the office was already 30+ minutes behind in seeing other patients. I am appalled at how this medical practice can maintain their patient base. With the way things are run at this medical practice, it's a "THANKS, BUT NO THANKS!". Now, I have some blood work that is not coming back normal and symptoms that I would like addressed and the answer is meds and referrals. I needed to change primary care physicians and called the office in mid January. I was informed that they were not taking new patient appointments until February. I called February 1 and could only leave a message as the recording said they would get back either that day or the following day depending upon what time the message was left (I was well before the cutoff for the next day callback). I left detailed information about the reason I was calling and my contact number. Two days later I called again after not hearing anything and again had to leave a message. I still have not received any return call. I had heard positive things about Drew Hall, M.D., but if this is how his office operates, why would anyone choose him as a provider? I moved to Arizona 3 years ago started looking for a new MD. This place was highly recommended by several family members ! When I started going here there was some confusion with my old insurance vs my new insurance as far as who to bill. Emily called me and told me I needed to straighten it out give her a call back when I get it together! It took a while but between the time I was waiting for confirmation my mother passed away. On the day of her passing Emily called stating that I will be billed for the entire amount and it could go into collections, I explained to her I'm still working on it but my mother passed away earlier that day ! She didn't care at all she kept talking as if I never said anything. I found that to be very RUDE !! Fast forward I had a MD appt in May of this year before I leave the office I always as the front desk if I have a balance this particular day I was told "no" ! Early this month "Aug" I called to make an appointment only to be told that I'm no longer with the practice because I owed $25 and never paid it from May ! From what I'm seeing on this thread I'm not the only person this happened to ! My whole family goes here minus 2 of us now because another family member just received the same notice ! So disappointed with repeatedly terrible service and experiences with both the Gilbert and Chandler offices. It doesn't matter what doctor you pick here. You'll never see them. Only Physician Assistants are available, and there's a long rotation of them, and they're way overbooked. Don't bother leaving a message, they don't call you back. I had an emergency one day, left a message and waited until the next day with no call back. I again call and tell the front office girls I didn't receive a call back and left another message to get a call back. And guess what? No one ever called me!! Save yourself the trouble and avoid at all costs! Here's why: 1. Neither office saves appointments for when you're sick or need to be seen. You'll wait a couple days to be seen and sometimes that just isn't an option when there's something really wrong! 2. The office staff is rude, and acts like you're a burden as soon as you walk through the door. Instead of being greeted by a friendly face with customer service skills - you're just asked point blank why your there, with a blank stare, acting like you just interrupted them by simply being there. 3. I was misdiagnosed in a big way. I had to go to the ER and was admitted to the hospital for 3 days after seeing a PA at the Chandler office. I could've had a stroke had I not gone with my gut feeling of something bigger being wrong. Listen to your bodies! 4. I was told today there are no appointments for the next 2 days, but there are "walk in" appointments at the Chandler office. I drive 40 minutes to and from the office, for nothing, as I'm told they stopped accepting walk ins upon arrival. I had to go to the urgent care and spend $100 co-pay when my normal office co-pay is $40. They cost me $60 and 40 minutes of my time for nothing. 5. I'm finally fed up at this point and ask to speak to a manager. She's on maternity leave! Unfortunately it is very apparent no manager is overseeing this disgrace of an operation, because if they were it would and should run like a well oiled machine. I told the assistant manager all the issues I've had and her lack of response made me realize I unfortunately need to find a new doctors office - her response, "Okay." Another blank stare response. I wish I could give 0 stars. My mother has been sick with abdominal pain for 3 days. She went to her PCP, Ocotillo Internal Medicine and was diagnosed with a UTI, which she did test positive for due to the real issue. She presented no UTI symptoms but she did present incredible abdominal pain and was hardly able to sit up. The provider treated her for a UTI and sent her home. Fast forward 3 days later and she can hardly move, get out of bed, eat or do anything. She called Ocotillo Internal Medicine back and asked to get in same day, it was urgent now. They said "we can't today, we can see you in a few days", if she had listened she probably would no longer be with us. She luckily was able to see another doctor who rushed her to the ER due to a nearly ruptured appendix. She has now been in the hospital 2 days and the ER doctors were absolutely stunned to learn about why she waited so long to come in. Ocotillo Internal didn't even have the decency to care. If you're looking for a logical provider, who can get you in SAME day and actually care about your health and not the time in the room I HIGHLY recommend Paper Cranes. read more

This has nothing to do with covid. I've been a patient for 3 years and I've always had to call for my lab results. I was told I should be the one receiving the calls and I should be getting my pretty standard labs within 3 days following. I've waited 2 weeks at one point before calling. And now there is a new process where I have to wait for an open appt for lab results. I asked is this for all labs moving forward and was told yes. So now it will be a full 5 weeks before I now the results of my labs. Now the PAs and Drs are nice but the whole process of dealing with this practice takes too much effort. read more

So disappointed in this practice. I started going 15 years ago and saw Dr. H. The last few years have really gone down hill. I've referred so many friends and family members and sady i am now embarrassed i have because the way its gone down hill. My husband has been calling for A MONTH to get his daily maintenance medication refilled (insulin) and always gets a voice mail and NEVER gets a call back. Diabetes is no joke but this practice and the medical support staff never call, answer the phone or call back. Our pharmacy faxed 5 different times and no response. Now they are doing tele health calls. We received a call regarding prework for a telehealth call and asking us to call back, which we did, got a voice-mail and still no call back. I am done. I wish Dr. H the best, but a disaster office, can make or break a practice. His staff are in dire need of patient experience and empathy training along with BASIC front desk skills. What a difference an office and a Dr. make! I'm not sure why there are negative comments. Maybe that was when this office was just getting started. This office answers the phone after 8am. Sometimes it may take more than one phone call to get through. But if you leave a message they call back pretty quick, The reception area has smiling people working behind the counter.. They are all friendly. And very helpful. Once I arrived a few minutes late and they said no problem, The doctor is fantastic. He helped the office manager download my records from a flash drive and my records are now in their system, The doctor and PA rock the planet and care and answer questions. I used to recommend this office to friends in need of a PCP but will no longer be doing so. Avoid Dr. H at all costs. On Thursday 3/19, I wasn't feeling well and contacted the on call doctor as every single thing I read said to contact my PCP if I thought I had COVID-19 symptoms. It was after hours (4:45pm) so I requested a call back from the on-call doctor (last name started with an H. I think it's the owner listed on their site but am not completely positive). He was a bit rude but wasn't very concerned and told me to tell them if things get worse. I have asthma so am not taking anything lightly with this virus. My husband also still had to go to work daily at this point, and he works in an office with 400+ people, multiple who had flu like symptoms in the past week. Late Friday night (3/20), I experienced shortness of breath and a 100° temperature, along with intermittent coughing, irregular fatigue, and a headache. By Saturday morning my temp was down but I did not feel well at all - still had a headache, trouble breathing, fatigue, and was starting to have body aches. I called the office again and requested contact by the on call doctor. It was Dr. H again - and he immediately started yelling at me for calling back. He said "WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO?!" "DO YOU THINK YOU HAVE IT? THEN GO TO THE ER!" He then got mad at me because he had told me to call if my temp was 100.3° or higher. I told him I had forgotten that part and was concerned as my temp it 100° the night prior, and the shortness of breath I experienced has NEVER happened to me in my life even with asthma. He barely even let me explain myself before continuing to yell at me. I couldn't even get the words out to tell him (he just kept yelling) the remaining symptoms I experienced, and couldn't explain to him this was NOT a normal asthma symptom of mine. I am 28 years old and have had asthma my entire life - I know what's normal for my body. Honestly, I didn't think I had COVID-19 and was seeking help for what I was experiencing. Also, I told him his tone made me uncomfortable and he continued, so I hung up on him. My husband heard this entire interaction as I had the doc on speaker and needless to say - my husband was appalled. I was shaken but my husband suggested letting my actual PCP (Dr. Delatte) know. So, I then called back and left a voicemail for Dr. Delatte's assistant. I tried to explain what happened but then started crying in the voicemail (super embarrassing) but I was at a loss. I asked them to contact me when they were back in the office that following Monday (3/23) as I no longer wanted to talk to Dr. H but am still concerned with how I was feeling, whether or not it's COVID-19. It's now April 1st and I have not heard back from Dr. Delatte or her assistant. Over 5 business days is plenty of time to call me back. I don't want a pity call after this review. I get that we are all stressed during this pandemic, but doctors are the ones we have to rely on if we don't feel well. Rather than yell at patients, calmly explain why it's not of concern and offer legitimate support. I've read so many things about this virus and many said people start with the symptoms I had, so god-forbid I was concerned. Any doctor that won't allow a patient to even explain their symptoms needs to rethink their profession. I really hope I don't catch this thing because if I do, I can't even rely on my PCP office to help me. How sad. I'll be finding a new one to go to when this is all over. *I would like to note that Dr. Delatte has been very nice when I see her or talk to her, and the reason I didn't leave only 1 Star. I am just not confident enough in the rest of the staff as this has not been my only negative experience, just the worst. read more

I absolutely loved this office. I referred way too patients. After cancelling an appointment via voice mail (because they never answer the phone anymore or keep you on hold for a stupid amount of time and then still have to leave a message) they charged me a no show fee and LOCKED my account so no appointments could be made unless I pay the ransom fee. I have been sent to collection for a $45 fee (which I won't be paying regardless). They lost 5 members of my family. read more

This used to be a great practice, unfortunately the level of service and knowledge has gone down hill as providers have left. Getting accurate information through the staff is difficult. Getting someone on the phone will have you on hold for a lengthy amount of time. Very sad to say we will be leaving this practice as we have been there 7 years. read more

Long story. 1 Needed a medication insurance would not pay for. Left 4 messages for my PA no answer. 2 Never received a bill in the mail for a copay which at time of check in said I didn't have one. 3 Received a letter that I would be going to collections. 4 Billing my insurance for visits I never made there. 5. I decided yo change Doctors instead of putting up with this crap. read more
