I freaking love this place. I have given blood 7 times in the last month, and I've made nearly $600 for my first few donations. It's awesome. I go to the one in Van Nuys but I think I officially signed up at the one in Santa Fe Springs, CA. I really appreciate how they gave me an 'express pass' the first time, and then they sent me one for my birthday! The Van Nuys location gets SUPER busy, and those express passes come in handy. Even without them though, the regular line isn't terrible - the workers here are LITERAL angels that are extremely efficient, kind, and good at their jobs. I'm grateful to have found this place. I recently lost my debit card, and they had to send me a new one. The ONE negative thing was the fact that it took them 30 minutes to answer the damn phone when In needed a replacement card, but they were able to successfully send me one in 7-10 business days. Wait Line is *insane*. This place is Horribly Managed... you would do well to find another. You will be here for 2 hours when they have 4 Pre-Screening Kiosks available (but only Staff 1 or 2 of them) and 3 Rows of Empty Seating once you are Screened. Makes Zero Sense. there is a process now that is working once you get a bed. now if they can synchronize that to the front when ur getting pre chechked in. You can tell alot of the employees dispize being in the front. Some just move slow and when first opportunity comes they help new donors first like get a physical. And once done they pretty much lolly gag it till they can help them again ....it's kinda irritating. Specially when they are no chairs and some people can't be on their feet too long due to feet issues like me...and then once you get sticked 2 hours has passed And I usually get there around 8 to 9am...times where I get frustrated and stop the donation cuz I am done and over it and take the deferment but always make sure I don't more than half what they are requesting . .. read more

Make sure you always have an extra 3 hours to spare. Lines are crazy I waited for 2+ hours while they had 1 person working in the front.. Coming here is only worth the new patient pay out otherwise Grifols is a lot better. No lines and a sitting area if you wait. read more

I feel bad for their overworked employees, who are polite, and they do try. I've been sitting in a chair I waited over 30 minutes to get into for another 20 and I'm still not hooked up to the machine yet! This place takes forever ALWAYS! There are also biohazard bloody cotton balls all over the floors, and trash. They don't even put biohazards in a special bin or thick red trash bag, which, medically, they're supposed to have better practices than they do. Update: by the time I finally got out of there last night, it was almost 4 hours later. not worth it and not ok! Save yourself the trouble and go anywhere else. read more

DO NOT waste your time and sanity on this facility. I had a terrible experience simply trying to donate plasma. Their claimed mission to "improve the quality of life" for donors is obviously a sham. Each visit, you have to wait in a lengthy line snaking almost out the door, watch videos, fill out forms (sometimes multiple times the SAME FORM), which takes 1 to 2 hours, only to then discover that you cannot donate, for whatever BS reason they give you. They lie about the procedure, you are not compensated for time already spent,and then expect you to do it all over again. Today, on my 3rd try, I went through over an hour of processing, when I was told I would need my physical Social Security card to continue (which wasnt mentioned when I gave them my ID and the SS# an hour earlier). Apparently, their "system couldnt match me" with my (legitimate) number. I explained that i could get the card, but wanted assurance that when I returned, I could continue the processing where I left off. "Clinician" Juan assured me that I could. Upon returning (30 mins. later), they told me that I was required to start over AGAIN because my visit was cancelled. I argued that I was assured by Juan that I would not have to, and eventually spoke to a "manager" Chris. He apologized and said, unfortunately, I would have to fill out the forms again, but that I could skip to the front of the line afterwards. Reluctantly, I did so, but then was told I would have to go to back of line again. I demanded to speak with "manager" "Chris", but instead a different "manager" "Marisa" (the "manager" is distinguished only by a clip-on card they attach to their scrubs, and apparently they switch at a whim) came and I finally got back to the exam room I had left 2 hours earlier. I was calm and polite with each lie they told me. However, they were obviously put off by my insistance on not being treated like a desperate bum and lied to, so they told me I could not donate that day because of "my attitude". I demanded a copy of their grievance procedure, which they refused, when security guard "Jonathon" tried to grab me and I left. Another 2+ hours wasted at this terrible facility (same as with my previous visits). I have never donated plasma before, so I'm not sure how other facilities compare, but at this one they will likely treat you with disrespect, lie to you and waste your day with no compensation. Then not allow you to file a formal grievance or speak to someone who is ACTUALLY in charge. My experience: hours wasted, a lot of personal information submitted, and treated with disrespect but no compensation. A little extra cash is nice, but not worth it to deal with incompetent staff with no supervisor or grievance process in place. I hear that Grifols is better, and will go there if I ever decide to donate again. read more

Had an appointment for 12:30. Showed up at 12:15. Nobody was at the front desk, no signs directing you where to go. There was only one line and no other staff to ask questions. Waited in the line for 30 minutes. By the time I got to the front of the line, someone finally showed up at the front desk. The people told me I had to go talk to the front desk lady instead, and now there's a line of people. It's 1 o clock already and I haven't started a thing. What's the point of making an appointment? Hopefully they can figure out a better system or ensure that the front desk is always staffed. read more

This place is pathetic. They are ALWAYS -- AND I DO MEAN ALWAYS -- RADICALLY understaffed. RADICALLY. ALWAYS. Forget the videos that tell you plasma donation take 45 minutes. There have been times at Octapharma when I've waited OVER TWO AND A HALF HOURS before I've been able to begin donating. Once, I had to wait OVER THREE HOURS. And that included standing in line for OVER TWO. And you WILL BE STANDING -- they have NO CHAIRS. This was an actual count one night in late 2025: There were 37 people in line, and ONLY ONE person doing the testing (they have four testing desks). And in the donor room, there were dozens of people on the beds waiting and ONLY THREE TECHNICIANS doing the work to setup the donations. Easy and quick process. The environment was clean. The staff there were kind and helpful.

Takes *entirely* too long. Nearly 2 hours just to get set up, never mind the donation itself. 25+ people in line waiting and often one or 2 people at the counter Very limited free parking, so you have to do a 2 hour meter. As donations always take more than 2 hours, you run the risk of a $70 ticket for a $35 donation. Very irritating and takes a large chunk of your day read more

I've donated a few times, definitely can say the lines can be a long wait at times can take up to 3/4 hours on a busy day. I've had good experiences but also bad. Some of the workers like to chit chat instead of doing their jobs. I've had to complain to the manager before. Some workers are helpful and do their job correctly. I think I came in on a bad day, especially with the LA fire crisis going on. I'm a returning plasma donor but previously I went to the West Covina location. So this was my first time being at the Van Nuys location (which would've my second donation). Everything was fine until I had an issue with the nurse lady who was helping me...Maybe she wasn't in a great mood. If I'm not mistaken, donors have to pass quick blood test to see if they have enough protein. And if the donor doesn't have enough protein, then they can't donate plasma for that day. I guess I failed the test (that's on me) but the nurse lacked bedside manners and didn't offer me any context as she said "bye" to me. It wasn't until I asked her on what happened was when I got some answers. If she had said "hey, sorry you failed the test" proactively, I would've been satisfied and less confused. Now, I'm not mad at her and I know it's a tough job, which is why I'm not writing a poor review. But if she was more communicative, it would be so much beneficial for all. Seriously. read more

I've donated here about 12-15 times in the last three months and with the exception of twice, I've had to stand in line waiting to be screened for over an hour. This is because they have four screening stations and no matter how backed up the line is, they NEVER have more than two people working. After finally getting through screening, I've had to wait for a bed for 45 minutes before. I've had to wait a half hour to get hooked up once I'm in a bed (yesterday, I was in line for over an hour and in the bed waiting for 45 minutes). It seems most of the people who work here hate it and you can tell. They're not rude, but they act like zombies...totally apathetic. Speak in monotones barely loud enough to hear. Also, one day I came in and it was 98 degrees outside and my a/c doesn't work in my car and I don't have tinted windows. It was sweltering so I was HOT and sweaty when I arrived. It happened to be one of the two times there was no line, so I didn't have time to cool down before screening. They took my temp and told me I couldn't donate for two weeks because I "had a fever." I explained the situation and if they gave me ten minutes in the air conditioning I'd cool down and we could try again. Oh, no. Can't do that! Rules, ya know! Shut out for two whole weeks, which messed up my new donor track (so I couldn't earn the maximum amount offered). Meanwhile, people with blood pressure that's too high get to wait it out and be screened again, bumping the line. How does THAT make any sense??? Also, I asked for a stool or something so I didn't have to stand so long in one place because I have sciatica, and they gave me some bulls**t that "if you're not healthy enough to stand in line, you're not healthy enough to donate." A bad back has nothing to do with my plasma. That's absolute rubbish, because other veteran donors have told me they USED to have seating but they took it all out to keep vagrants from trying to escape the heat or the cold. I don't like being lied to. By the way, the Americans with Disabilities Act REQUIRES accommodation for physical challenges if requested, so they're in violation of the law in that regard. (Update: I bought a portable camping chair and used it while waiting in line for the first time yesterday. No one bothered me about it. Hard recommend.) Also...the parking blows. There aren't anywhere near enough spaces and people tend to park in a space and then sit in their cars playing on their phones, therefore making the problem even worse. Once I had to use street parking (two hour limit). After waiting over an hour to finally get screened, before going to get a bed, I said, "I gotta go put money in the meter real quick." The employee/phlebotomist/nurse/whoever-just-screened me had the nerve to say, "Okay, well hurry up, because they'll be waiting on you." Wait...what? ARE. YOU. EFFING. SERIOUS??? THEY'RE waiting on ME??? Have a seat, lady. You've got some nerve telling ME to hurry up. Bottom line...expect to waste half your day here because they don't have enough staff OR locations to serve the population. Expect for them to give you every lame excuse possible NOT to allow you to donate. Expect very few smiles from the staff. Don't expect any gratitude for your donation. Okay, I'm sure most people who come here are doing so less out of the kindness of their hearts and because they desperately need the money. But the least they could do is make the process more efficient, not treat us like cattle and make us feel like the worthless dregs of society. We should be in and out in less than two hours (an hour and 15, really), feeling good that we may have saved a life and grateful for a little extra cash. Well, you're phlebotomist causes the bruises and then we're penalized if the other arm is not used to giving Plasma and they can't find the vein and that arm and they bruise that arm, so you're out a couple of weeks I know that I am because once they have the needle in, they dig and dig and dig very uncomfortable hurts very bad. They need to find a better way or get new people to stick you because we shouldn't be penalized because they can't do their job. And I'm here basically to help someone that's what Plasma is all about and I'm terrified of needles. Can you imagine the torture that I put myself through because they want to dig to make sure they're getting their job done which I tell them please don't do that because you're bruising me and then I won't be able to come back because they always go to the other arm and bruise it Now.
