The moment you walk in you are greeted with the most mouthwatering smell ever! The yummy sugary aroma of freshly baked goods puts Krispy Kreme to shame. There are glass cases filled with colorful cookies and various pastries (I swear one of them was cut out in the shape of a pig). At the front counter they have slices of tres leche cake. We got the mocha flavored one...OMG. The pastries are self-serve. Pick up a silver tray, grab a pair of tongs, and get to filling up on treats! They are affordable. If you want a cake, they can make all sorts of sizes. Bring cash...your plastic is no good here.

Cannot believe we pre-ordered a cake and this is what was given to me! How embarrassing to present this at a party

    Self-serve center.

Once you peep their prices on some imported items - such as roasted red peppers, kalamata olives, feta cheese, and olive oil - you'll laugh at the fools paying the regular grocery store prices. The BEST dates!! I grew up on pretty delicious dates my dad used to bulk order from a food cooperative, and I've had a hard time in the past several years finding decent dates - the standard U.S. pitted type are always horribly dry, and most others are too (and, yech, I can't stand those dry poopy pellet looking rolls covered in flour). I've looked all over town - including several other groceries of this genre - and been disappointed, until El Baraka! They don't always have a shipment in, but check in the glass case at the counter for the black box - those are the dates imported from Lebanon, I believe the proprietor said. For the juiciest dates I've ever had (they were literally oozing, and still on the stems!), $4/lb was an ultimate bargain. Lastly, this pesky pescatarian can't tell you much about the fresh meat counter, but the smells are good and it's all halal (that is, in accordance with Muslim law). Additionally, one side of the store has other retail items, like soaps and knick knacks and clothing.

Their prices are not as competitive as they were last year; however, there are NO other places you can go to purchase the quality of meat, olives, sauces, soap, beef bacon, beef pepperoni and Moroccan bread in the Triad area. I will give you an example. I bought an organic chicken and organic chicken wings from Earth Fare. My husband and I were excited. We fried the chicken wings, in Avocado oil, and sat down to eat. We took about (2) bites and spit it out. It tasted horrible. So disappointed, we ran over to El Baraka and bought (3) lbs. of chicken wings. They were stellar!!! We ended up giving away the whole chicken and chicken wings from Earth Fare. I have not bought ANY meat ANYWHERE else since. They also have an abundance of herbs and spices such as, Turmeric, Garlic Powder, Onion Powder, Cumin etc. By the way...we have never been disappointed with any purchase.

Of course it's no Patel Brothers but in terms of proximity to the university, it'll have to do. Lots of fresh veggies that never seem to run out. But in terms of stocking that's about the limit. There seem to be plenty of large bags of rice and dry spices too. However most aisles are lightly stocked and running out of packaged and frozen items. My friend introduced me to paneer patka (sp?), a frozen pancake-like item that is perfect for college students to heat up and eat in a jiffy. There were other things he just couldn't find though and even packages that had been opened and left on the shelf. There also wasn't much milk or yogurt to choose from in a single small refrigerator. At he register there were even fresh/homemade samosas. Took a few home and heated them up - they weren't bad! The guy running the register was pretty quiet and just getting the job done. Not sure if this is the owner I've read about in other reviews. He never offered much help with anything though. The store seems too big for what they stock. A few aisles were crammed and piled with fixture shelves and empty carts. They were impassible and messy but didn't have any food on them either so not a huge deal. The prices did seem steep but I don't have experience shopping at Indian stores so I can't really comment on whether or not they were normal. I would come back again with my friend if I'm in the area but there's a Patel Brothers much closer to where I live.

This place has everything you need in terms of spices, Indian food items and decoration…read more I have always wanted to visit this place, but it is not in my neighborhood therefore I do not get out there often. However, the person and (maybe) the owner are very friendly and helpful. I shop at international and Indian places at least once a month and I am still trying to find something that is closer to my house. I purchased my ghee, tahini, spices, flour, rice (big bag) and fresh paneer cheese here. Fresh paneer cheese is hard to find in Charlotte and this place has it. It is small, but so are most Indian shops. It was clean and very nicely laid out. I will be coming back if I am in the neighborhood.
