But where to buy that alcohol can be an important question. I find that the Forked Vine is one of the better liquor stores in town. For one, I don't feel that I am going to get mugged outside (which you can't say for some of the other places in town) and it also has the best selection in town. I tend to be a beer drinker and they do have a pretty good selection of big beers (over 6% alcohol) and are pretty knowledgeable about the selection they have in stock. They also have decent prices on all of their selections. They probably aren't the cheapest on everything but I can say that if you are buying whiskey or vodka and aren't buying handles, they either match or beat everyone else in town on price. The staff is helpful in finding what you want, but aren't pushy or overly helpful so if you want to spend time just browsing, you can be comfortable doing that. Also, they put extra boxes out in front in a small fenced off area and this can come in handy if you need moving boxes. If you ask, they sometimes will even give you a few more. All in all, this is a good place to pick up party supplies or just some wine or spirits to have around the house.

They have a glassed in refrigerated cellar in one corner. The visit before last found this room about 25% stocked and it was difficult to find something drinkable in terms of quality and maturity. The most recent visit in early September 2023 found the room about 10% stocked and the cooling unit not working, so the room temp was about 80 degrees instead of the 55 it should be. I wound up buying a few warm wines from the room just because I knew they would likely be better than any of the wine outside the room. I spoke to the staff and told them about my past good experiences and my recent unpleasant ones. I also told them how important it was to maintain quality wines at a decent temperature. I have been to every liquor store in Jackson, TN, and they all have only lower end wines that are very young. From now on I will ship wines to Jackson ahead of my visit. But I don't understand why the owner of this once good shop let this happen.

I found ice for $1.99 for a 7 lb bag which was much more reasonable than Kroger. There were 2 employees in the store and both were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. I was the only customer in the store so one even went into the cooler, grabbed the case I needed and carried it to the cash register for me. The cashier was extremely nice, and we carried on a great conversation for a few minutes. I did not find the price of the beer to be that much over the cost that I would have paid at Kroger and I got to support a local business. I am not in the habit of buying liquor, but I would not hesitate to go to this business again if needed.

Using the same approach, I promised that I wouldn't destroy or leave it dirty, and he was nice about the small talk and followed me in. I was almost at the bathroom and he stopped me and said I really cant go in there. He told me it's against the law for me to use his bathroom!! Such BS!! So I told him in that case I'll just get some beer instead of the whiskey I'd come for. He told me that they have beer if I want it. No dude you don't get it. If i cant relieve myself in your toilet, then you don't get my business. When I said ill get beer instead I meant I would buy it somewhere else because I can't get whiskey anywhere else in town. If you don't need your customers, then I don't need you and your liquor!! I will say that he was nice and there was no confrontation or argument. I'm sure its not his rules and he can't make decisions. As it happened I was about a 3 or 4 on my need to go. If I'd been 9 or 10 in emergency mode, I'd have locked myself in and waited on the cops. I could have desecrated the back of the building or behind the dumpster but luckily I was ok at the moment and handled it like a grownup. You may be able to have control over your bathroom but I have control of my money, and you don't deserve it. I also have control over your public image by posting this review. that means I have a lot more power than you!! I don't appreciate the way I was treated. If only you'd let me do what I had to do.
