I have been a Buster's customers for years. They have the most extensive inventory and the best prices. When my wife, who does not drink and has only a limited knowledge of alcoholic beverages, asked me what I wanted for Christmas I told her I wanted a bottle of Chartreuse. I had tried to add Chartreuse to my last Buster's delivery, but they were out. Now my wife lives for Christmas and works very hard to be sure everyone has the perfect gift. It was very frustrating for her not to be able secure that elusive green stuff. Trusting Buster's, she asked them if there was a reasonable substitute for Chartreuse and they recommended Dolin Genepy le Chamois. The staff member helping my wife asked her to wait one moment while he checked the stock. He returned with a bottle of Chartreuse from the manager on duty, Lauren, (I suspect from her own stock). As thrilled as I am to get the bottle for my bar, I am so happy to see my wife have her Christmas made more memorable. Buster's staff is the reason I keep coming back. This is one of the better liquor stores in the Memphis metro area. They have a wide and varied selection of spirits, wines , beers, and accoutrements. Whenever I'm in the neighborhood, I try to stop by, as I'll usually find something that my household hasn't yet tasted. I'm especially glad that they have a respectable selection of nonalcoholic beers to choose from. Hands down best liquor store in Memphis in my humble opinion! They have the best of your average liquor selections in the city. I love coming in and just browsing for things I have never seen before. I prefer Bourbon/Whiskey and Beer and they have plenty of both to choose from. They don't have anything like Blanton's or Pappy Van Winkle that I have seen but almost all other "regular domestic" selections are available. They also have a fantastic wine selection! I think they will even order you something they don't have if you are looking for it. I don't do many other spirits besides the above mentioned but there sure are a lot of bottles on the shelves. Im sure they have something that will tickle your fancy. They even have a "tasting center" over by the beer coolers. They say they have every bottle available for sample. Although I haven't personally challenged them and tried each and every spirit they have, I have considered it. I may just make a day out of it someday and get wasted a half ounce at a time on samples. Anyone else wanna waste a Saturday?? Ha!! That Kendrick Lamar song "Swimming Pools (Drank)" comes to mind. Rude and unprofessional staff. I have been in everytime I travel to Memphis but the staff has declined greatly. Mainly check out was rude and without knowledge. I asked about a couple Bourbon choices but they weren't knowledgeable and asked for help but the manager was insulting and condescending. I ordered wine and rum to make a drink for the Inauguration. I ordered online, so I don't have any comments about the in-person shopping experience. I ordered online too late to pick up for the day but received confirmation the next morning that my order was ready for pick up. When I arrived, I was a little confused about where I was supposed to start the line, but not to worry. I pulled into a numbered spot on the north side of the building. I called the store to let them know that I was waiting. A staff member came out, verified my ID, and gave me my order. I went here looking for a particular wine I wanted to try, but they didn't have it ugh. I asked the gentleman about the wine and he said that he had been trying to get it but haven't been able too. This place is huge and has a very wide selection of wine and hard liquor for all your needs. I ended up trying a different wine, I was curious bc it's a sweet wine but the percentage of alcohol was 10% compared to most sweet when I'm in the mood usually has 5-7%. This pandemic has been difficult for all, so I decided to host a virtual happy hour with my staff. I went to Buster's about 45 minutes before my "meeting" (I live 2 minutes away) to get some wine, and found out quickly I needed to order online. So I ordered online from my car and called them to let them know I was outside for pickup. At first they told me it would take up to 45 minutes to be ready, but I told them about my happy hour happening in 40 minutes, and they ensured me they'd be out in 15 minutes. They lived up to that promise and probably showed up 5 minutes early! Literally ruined my best friends wedding. Do not purchase large online orders from here for events. If you're buying from in store - that's fine - but DO NOT purchase large online orders. You will be very upset. - You will also be getting another review from the Groom - That extra hour taken from his VERY VERY much complicated matters for his wedding. Since you want to act like you know how everything came out. I don't understand how you can call to try and verify if someone can pick it up- BUT can't do it when the best man shows up for the order. The manager was extremely sensitive and passive aggressive- she literally said "I'm not talking to you if you're going to curse at me- when NO ONE CURSED - I've never had this happen to me- I truly felt like all she saw was an upset black person and chose to just "swipe" me. I came back here again! They still have same sale beers that they were sale last month. Actually they are pumpkin beers. The selection is not that big. Their mix-match is a little bit pricier. Most 6packs are about $10 but individuals bottles start at $2. They have tons of wine bottles. I picked up one bottle of organic white wine today. About $10. I checked in on yelp, so I got 20%off for this lovely wine. The staffs are friendly and nice. I went into Buster's today looking for a high end Bourbon for a gift. When I inquired about the inventory of a rare bourbon, I was told point blank by (what I assume was) a manager that "I do not have time right now to look for that type of thing for you, but I'll give you my card if you want to email me a list of what you are looking for." Though I was somewhat taken aback by this, the store was not that busy, I pressed a bit, saying that I was willing to spend up to several thousand dollars for the right bottle, but was not a bourbon expert and was hoping for some advice. At this the manager just smirked and said "There is a pecking order for these kind of things and you are not part of that." Apparently new customers, even those willing to spend a considerable amount of money, are simply not welcome at Buster's. I left and went to several other stores, where I was treated like I was a valuable customer, even if they did not have the bottle I was looking for. On the plus side, the store was large and appeared to be well stocked and clean, but if you are looking for a welcoming atmosphere and just the basics of good customer service I highly encourage you to give another establishment your business. Impressed with the selection and prices here. Had some good beer choices and a nice whiskey selection. The mixers and charcuterie options were very cool and somewhat unexpected on my behalf which I thought was neat. We even bought a package of bresaola, which we later found out came from a local butcher - very cool! My wife went there a few weeks back looking for my birthday gift, Bardstown Discovery #5, she spent a few minutes looking for it and found a box of it on the floor in the bourbon aisle, she asked one of the employees if they could open it and give her a bottle, in the process, they basically told her someone brought the box out by mistake, And told her the Dreaded, "We are saving those for our GOOD Customers" my wife was totally embarrassed and publicly humiliated by refusing to take her money in front of the whole store and other customers. She went down the Street to Joe's and they hooked her up! FYI I have spent over 3k at Busters since pandemic started, been going there regularly since 95, won't ever spend a dime in there again!!! Also my wife sent the store an email explaining her experience and embarrassment, never heard back, been roughly 3 weeks! I am adding this in case management or owner wants to address why we didn't bring this issue to their attention, she tried, no one seems to care. I hate writing bad reviews especially during COVID, however I felt forced to, due to the lack of empathy on their part. The Good News is we rediscovered a Memphis Jewel (Joe's liquor on poplar ave),that still has excellent customer service. After my wife left Buster's she immediately went to Joe's walked in the store and saw "Allocated Bottle" on the shelf, due to the prior experience and embarrassment 10 minutes earlier, she asked the employee, "Can I buy that" the man just nicely chuckled and said," Mam you can buy anything on my shelves or floor". After work on Friday, I stopped at Buster's to pick up a bottle of wine and Tequila. After getting the Tequila from the front of the store,I walked to the back for the bottle of wine. I immediately noticed the security guard began following me. I PURCHASED both items. The security guard followed me because I am black and assumed I was attempting to steal. An efficient checkout system and attentive cashiers to provide direction (a.k.a. shout over the noise of people excitedly shopping for booze) to the correct till to keep it all moving like one big happy machine. Buster's is always crowded, but have no fear. You'll be in and out in a second, that is, if you aren't busy mulling over the huge selection they offer. I've never had a bad experience in Buster's- in fact, I've had the opposite. There are always at least two staffers that offer to help me when I peruse the wine aisles, and the check out stand, as Jolynna said, is so adequately staffed so that it is never more than two customers deep. I usually opt for wine, and Buster's is one of the few places I can find one of my faves, Rodney Strong Knotty Pines red zin. I always check out the variety though to see if there are any new flavors that I'd like to try. There are plenty of notecards attached to the counters to describe the selections, as well staff picks. I don't buy a lot of liquor, but I have shopped for gifts, and their liquor selection seems to be quite satisfactory as well. Although I've never walked there, they have the best selection of wine and one of the largest selections of "anything alcohol" (Tons of local brew too) in TN... cool owner (down to earth and on the sale room floor sometimes) and staff is always friendly and knowledgeable. Back in town and need of a bottle of bourbon, I knew just where to go. The angle parking out front is still a mess, so I proactively parked on the side and walked a few extra feet. Once inside, it was easy to find an employee to point me to the bourbon, I grabbed the first Four Roses I saw, and headed to the checkout. Now, they've remodeled the register area, so it is much bigger, but it was a little confusing about where the line started. But no worries, I stood there for just a moment, was joined by someone behind me (who had the case he was carrying taken and held at the counter so he didn't have to hang onto it), and then rapidly checked out.
