I was a regular at The Odyssey when they were at the Aberdeen Plaza (near Ollie's), and one of their first customers when they moved downtown. I only left because I moved to NC. Since I was in Harford County and in need of a haircut, I knew exactly where to go! The location is still perfect--next to the park and across from the fire station, with easy access and parking. They've expanded since I was last there, and they now have a spa area. Mags, who told me she's been there for four years, cut and styled my frizzy, wavy hair, and it looks great! The price was reasonable, though not cheap, and worth it. Beware though--there was a sign on the counter that said the prices are rising "slightly" on 11-15. read more

I went here for a manicure the other day, since I come here for my hair anyway, and I can't say I was impressed with it, and I probably won't go back for another... ever. While the tech was very friendly and personable, she cut my nails crooked, didn't file them adequately, and the paint job was amateurish at best. Based on what else I saw while I was there, that's about their normal. While I'm sure I could have talked to management and gotten it taken care of, I didn't have the time for that, nor the patience to do it politely. I've also used this place for a massage in the past, and while I found it fine, they seem to be going through massage staff rapidly. The whole thing strikes of mis-management to my sense, but that's just a guess. I use Garrett for my hair, and he is both very easy/companionable to work with, as well as being a very good stylist, at least for me, I'll continue to come to Odyssey as long as he's available as a stylist. I've also had good experiences with another one of their stylists, who has since moved on to another profession. But, if Garrett leaves... I'm not sure I'd bother to find a 3rd stylist at this place. read more

This was my first time at the salon. The nails came out okay, but it took entirely too long to take my gel nails off. My normal nail technician uses a thick gel nail remover and it comes off in minutes. Since I'm used to that, taking an hour to get my nails off was frustrating. The technician I had was a lovely lady, but unfortunately a few times didn't realize she filled my nails crooked, messed up both of my thumb nails at the last minute then had to redo them. This made me late for another appointment I had. I won't be returning. read more

Magdala is the best stylist I have ever had. I drive all the way from Philadelphia every other month to see her. She is attentive, does a great job coloring my hair, and does not ever make me feel rushed. She is always being honest with me about what products I need for my hair (if a little more dry than usual) and even will show me how to style my hair so that I can get the volume I want (when I do it at home, it never looks as amazing as when she does it, but I digress). I am never worried about how my hair will look when leaving the salon because I know I am in good hands with her. read more

The Odyssey Salon & Day Spa in Aberdeen is probably the nicest hair salon in Aberdeen. They have been around since I was a kid and have gone through a renovation within the last couple of years which has really updated the decor including a designated waiting area. I primarily go to Odyssey to have my hair cut and styled and for manicures and pedicures. The pricing for their services are pretty average for a mid-range salon/day spa. As with most salons your experience will vary based on who you book with, though I have found all of the current stylists/techs to be competent. I highly recommend (little) Michelle for both hair and nails. They also offer a range of spa treatments but I have never purchased them so I can't speak for their quality or value. Not all stylists/techs are available every day and they tend to only have people on shift who have currently booked appointments so I sadly can't recommend them if you are trying to get a walk-in appointment. They have very little extra staff on hand on any given day. If you have the ability to schedule ahead of time I'm confident you will be happy with your results. read more

There are strands everywhere. It is nothing near what she asked for. We will NOT be patronizing this establishment again. read more

I am new to the area and was really nervous about finding a new salon and stylist. They fit me in for a cut the very next day. Heather was amazing, she ended up doing a color and cut and it was exactly what I wanted. She listened to me and what was going to fit my lifestyle. Definitely will be going back to see her. This place is great! The reception, the ambience, and the operations under COVID. Let me say upfront I will visit again! But, things have evolved as all things do... and shame on me for not recognizing this before my facial appt. I made an appt for a facial having gone there in the mid 2000's for one. At that time the focus was the face. Bright lights with music but aesthetically pleasing. The person performing the facial was in a white jacket and her tools to zoom in and light your face were at the ready. After I was settled on to the table a very deliberate conversation about my face skin took place and after being inform she went to work. Focusing and chooses ingredients to tackle the skin ailments she saw. She cleansed deliberately, then exfoliated deliberately squeezing gently as necessary and treating and cooling. The focus was on my face. When it ended I was educated on how to treat my skin. I was given opportunity to look in the mirror and opine. I left feeling like I got exactly what I went there for. Fast forward to 2021 to getting a facial. Very shaded room. No real conversation about my face. Just me saying it's dry and I've been in COVID For the last year and I need gave waxing. The young lady got me settled cleaned the face, massaged it so very tenderly and wrapped in warm clothes before moving to neck and upper chest and arms. I almost fell a sleep she was so good. In between these thing she applies wax and tweezed my face before it was over. It was wonderful just not what I expected. Things evolve folks. I wanted a real facial because my skin needed it. I got a full relaxing facial massage to include top body. I need to get with the times and speak up. For you late Boomers out there, you need to as well. Again, this place and people there are great. I received a package- 30 minute massage, facial and mani/pedi. I was pleasantly surprised. Every person I talked to was uplifting and helpful. My massage was fantastic. The facial I received was informative and relaxing as well. Also the younger girl who did my mani/pedi was awesome. I honestly had THE BEST experience here. I WILL return for everything above. I was so relaxed and felt so happy after I left here. I'll be recommending this place for here on. They also had great specials on products I could take home to keep up with. read more

I moved from New York to Aberdeen, and to say it was a cultural shock is an understatement :) However, when I discovered the Odyssey, I was in love...it's like the one place in town I actually enjoy going to! My boyfriend recommended it, and when I finally got sick of driving 3 hours to get my hair done, I made an appointment. I will say, when I walked in, the place looked nice, however I did notice very quickly that many of the stylists had what I consider to be "crazy" hair styles - asymmetrical cuts, different colors (pink, green, purple, etc) and it did honestly make me nervous at first - in the sense that they very well may be talented, however it just may not be my style. But, as I noticed the rest of the clientele that was there (and this place is ALWAYS busy,) I realized they didn't look like there were there for fire engine red hair so I went ahead and gave it a try, and it was well worth it - they're all very good! In particular, I happen to love Abbi. Coming from the land of nail salons in New York, I was very discouraged about finding a local place in Aberdeen to get my nails done - most didn't speak any English, were doubtful licensed, and I felt like I got a free infection with my manicure. The Odyssey is the place to get your nails and toes done - all fully English speaking girls, very clean, and they use hospital grade antiseptic/sterilization, and they don't reuse files. Pretty disappointed. A friend and I went in to set up an appointment, and it was as if they didn't want to provide services. They said their workers were busy and that they could not accommodate us, but they didn't take the opportunity to book is for another time earlier. We ended up at another place, and had a wonderful experience. We just won't ever return to this place. read more

Hands down the worst highlights I have ever gotten! It was a few months ago and if I remember the "stylist" name I will post it. The highlights started 1 to over 2 inches from my scalp! Also stylist told the person responsible for hair washing to give me a costly "treatment" without asking me. I've visited the salon on a few occasions and I'm surprised by the reviews. I love the atmosphere and it is definitely a hidden gem in Aberdeen. The services I've tried to date include: massages, a facial, reflexology, and a pedicure. My massages are wonderful. I've finally found my quarterly or bi-monthly location in the area. The facial surprisingly went well. I did not have any irritation afterwards. The pedi was OK, the paint job could have been better, but I've had worse. Overall, Odyssey is now my go-to location for massages. read more

I'm the girl who grew up going to the cheapest most convenient salons, just to get a trim. My natural hair color is blonde, and a few months ago I died my hair brown. I liked it, but it didn't feel like me, so I decided to go back blonde. About a year ago I started going to Odyssey to get trims, eye brow waxes, bangs cut, and I always ask for Heather! She is amazing, she always adds some advice, and gives her opinion about a great hair style that will fit my face/look. Not to long ago, I went to Heather to transfer back to blonde, and she did an amazing job! My hair was not falling out, and it did not dry out.
