The excellent ingredients and creative combinations are marred by not attending to the simplest management practices. It starts with the menu that has too many heavy and too many sweets. There's no light breakfast choices. Assembling one yourself from the "sides" gives you a smaller meal at a greater price. Strangely there are no fresh-sheets with the specials on them nor did the waitstaff mention them. The "banana cream pie French Toast" special was only written on one small chalk board sitting behind the hostess. The presentations were the other problem. My lox and bagel sandwich were oddly drizzled with an oily substance that made it unpleasant to grab and eat. Cutting the bagel with a steak knife was unsuccessfully frustrating. Other presentations were of the stark mother's-cooking variety. The mix of making good food inedible and okay food unappealing would be easy to fix. I've renamed this place Overly Extravagant Bollocks. Also why is it "Over Easy Breakfast" Breakfast Company... like an ATM Machine. Small rant over silly names, I just don't get this place. I get that they are inspired by great chefs and great ingredients, I can just never get anything that resembles a classic breakfast or anything remotely appetizing. I thought doing classic ideas well and with great ingredients would be big on their agenda but everything is trying to reinvent breakfast with expensive and disappointing results. There are other places in the vicinity or Calgary that do breakfast far better: Reds, Blue Star Diner, Diner Deluxe, The Beltliner... the list goes on. Overall it's a nice atmosphere. Myself and my significant other had the lox and bagel, and unfortunately, we were both underwhelmed. There was simply far too much cream cheese and far too little smoked salmon. The side salad was made of only arugulaIt does come out with a nice presentation, but the balance of ingredients for $20 was simply not there. Hopefully if we go back, a different item will be better. I see that the owner has commented back. I'm only giving them 3 stars for 2 things . First of all the host was struggling to find my reservation , but she took care of it and she fixed later on it wasn't that much of a big deal.. Second of all I was sat at the bar and the bartender never asked me how the food was , and She didn't care about if I want any refills or not. We arrived at OEB when it had a zero wait time. When entering there was a couple that entered before us, the lady at the front said it would be about a 5 minute wait. Really good place. Their food is great, my only concern was that when i went there was a huge line of people, and it kinda took my vibe down. Its a really popular place i understand that but maybe bring more tables in or bring some more outside. Cause it was super busy we stood there a for a little while and i was starving. No that has nothing to do with the food, and nothing to do with the quality of the service, both were outstanding. Best breakfast place in Calgary and the manager was amazing! We had lobster and shrimp crepe and Ahi Tuna breakfast poutine! So so good! The decor was beautiful the ambience was lovely. Did I actually just get charged $20 for 1 pancake, 2 eggs(cooked wrong), and 3 pieces of bacon?! I thought it came with hash browns as well, but nope I had to order those separate. We reserved a spot in line (for a party of 2) using the Yelp app as we were getting ready in the morning. When we arrived to OEB we were promptly seated. Our server took our orders almost immediately upon which the food was swiftly delivered, with everything cooked perfectly! However, there were two minor problems (that resulted in the 4 star rating). The first being we requested almond milk for addition to our coffee, and it was forgotten by our server until we politely reminded them. Second, many of the staff appeared to be physically drained, they weren't particularly smiley which I can only imagine is due to the sheer number of patrons waiting to be served. Overall great experience, however I highly recommended using the yelp app to wait in line prior to arriving (and the "gold digga" bowl is amazing, do half spinach and half potato for your base)! read more

I suggest going to the Edmonton trail location. The 4th Street location is stressful. I went two Sundays back to back this past couple weeks. I had to go a second time to really see if it was me or the atmosphere. I understand there may be a clash with everyone showing up for a table vs everyone on the "no wait app". It is a zoo, it is uncoordinated, there is just a gangle of people in the foyer. There was a server who had to yell to the crowd to get in formation... Anyways food was cold, and I ordered the eggs benny. Cold hollandaise never did anyone any good. When I went to find the restroom...I had to walk in font of the front line where food comes out because of how crowded the tables are. EW! The flavor, the ingredients, the presentation, there is no comparison. It's not cheap, and the lineup to get in can be a hassle (less so now that there's more than one tiny location) but it is absolutely, without a doubt, completely worth it. Met up with a gang of girl pals and we had an awesome time! Food was terrific and we felt spoiled by the great service and tasty dishes we ordered! If you go on a weekend, use the No Wait App so we got our table at a specific time . I felt sorry for all the people lined up trying to snag a spot and watching all the delicious food being served. Only problem was circling around the block & area trying to find a parking spot! Stressful & not fun if you have a large car. But the delicious food made up for it. I've had the Soul in a Bowl ( goodness in a chinese takeout box), upstream Benny ( smoked salmon bennies... looked so awesome) and the Breakfast in Tuscany ( so yummy)! THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE ELBOW DRIVE LOCATION. This is a new location so they are probably working out the kinks, but I would have to say that the food and the way the food was served (not the service, the service was fine, but how the food was presented) could use a bit of work. The "Soul in a Bowl" that my friend had was served in a far too vertical box rather than in a Bowl (don't you think Soul in a Bowl should be served in a Bowl??) .....not nearly as easy to eat, and too hard to get at any yolk that gets down to the bottom. Overall I'd say it was awkward to eat that way at best. I ordered the Eggs Florentine, a personal favourite. I found the English muffin was either over-toasted or too old. Should have been lightly crispy on the outside while still soft on the inside. These had a bottom crust that was difficult to even get the knife through and no tender centre...aaargh! And the spinach was a less than generous portion. I know it steams down to nothing when it's cooked, but not an excuse in my book, especially when it's certainly being paid for. I will go back for sure in a month or so to see if things have improved, but in the meantime, there are a few things they need to work on. Another consideration: I do not know what the heck some restaurant designers have rattling around in their heads these days, but it certainly isn't any common sense or consideration for an aging population! Both myself and my sister are 60+ and petite. We simply could NOT get up onto the ridiculously high stools! Not only very high, but not at all sturdy. Framed in flimsy metal tubes. My sister especially found it challenging as she's had a hip replacement. If you are bring parents or grandparents, make sure to request a low table. read more
