Well, there were six other people dinning in this establishment tonight so I figured the wait time for our food would be minimal. Our waitress was attentive, but not great. The food took a little longer than expected, but not a terribly long wait. I ordered the Brooke burger and was excited about it, as I love unique burgers...well, like all the other reviews, patty was a little over cooked and burger was Luke-warm. The egg on it was over cooked. Contrary to other reviews though, the party was not small. All-in-all, a mediocre restaurant with plenty of room to improve. If you like poor service, undercooked fries, and having to talk to a rude manager then you should definitely go here.

The food was good however their business model not so much. We ended up there at happy hour so we ordered three 1/2 price apps and a dinner, we got full, only to read (after the fact) a small card that says do not order more than you can eat for the 1/2 price apps we can not give boxes for those. Really?????? I am paying for them but you will take them and throw them away if I am full? If this company is concerned about people stock piling their half price apps then set a limit but to not give a box for leftovers is ridiculous. They should re-think this- as soon as I read that I was turned off by this place. Food was very good though but I would not return due to their no box rule and happy hour cheapness! read more

Needs more handicapped parking spaces. Not very handicapped friendly. Ordered appetizer of crab dip, not much crab in dip. Soups were decent, meals were disappointing. Oak barrel sirloin (med well) came out almost burned, asked for potato with just butter came out with both butter and sour cream. My husband ordered blackened snapper with the shrimp upgrade; came out with no shrimp and the snapper could have been better. Plain cheesecake was pitifully small; was going to take it home for a door wedge. All around not what we were hoping for our 40th anniversary dinner - especially for 80+ bucks. read more

Okay, here goes. Just got back from the Rak and man o' man was i disappointed. It seems like every time my girlfriend and I go there we always get something different from the kitchen, and today was no exception. I ordered my steak medium, which means pink through out, and what i received was medium well, pink only in the center and the rest well done. My girlfriend ordered her's medium well, and she received her's rare, red and bloody through out. We asked the waitress to please take it back and have it cooked correctly to medium well. She was very nice and apologized, took the steak back to the kitchen and we waited for our correct order. One of the managers, I believe, brought the steak back out and said that he would be back to check on us, which he did, and what he saw was 3/4 of an extremely well done steak still on the plate. My girl tried to eat it but it was hard to cut through, dry and had no flavor. The manager was very nice and polite and apologized. He asked if we would like to have another one cooked. We politely refused and asked for the check. When we received the check the manager had removed my girlfriends meal from it and for that sir, i thank you. You did the right thing. This is unfortunate because I still really do like this place and it's 1 of maybe 3 restaurants in the area that can generally serve a decent meal (usually). The staff are very friendly and courteous and always treat you well. However, if you can't serve the people what they ordered, i don't care how nice you are, you will not have a business for long. Nice staff is great, but great food is better. The problems start in the kitchen because there is no consistency. Owner and managers, it's time to crack the whip in that kitchen and get someone who can cook. More suggestions: For the owner and staff When you serve salad, please make sure that it is on a cold plate, not one that just came out of the washer and is still super hot. The onion soup is good but extremely salty. I have had it twice there and still way too salty. It's like eating a spoonful of salt with each bite. I have also had it at other places and those places had much better. Good food and consistency are key in the restaurant business. There should never be a case where you go in there one day and order something and its cooked to perfection and the next week you come in and order the same thing but it looks and tastes like you have an amateur cook running the kitchen. Considering that the area does not have a lot in terms of "good restaurant hang-outs", you could not ask for a better place than here. The food is always good, and the service is great. They prepare some of the best steaks around, and I love their garlic smashed potatoes. There is a reason that I keep going back ! The only tricky part is getting in on busy nights... there is plenty of parking but there can be a bit of a wait on weekend nights. read more

Stopped in for lunch on my way thru Ebensburg. I have been wanting to stop in, one of the few restaurant choices. I won't be back. Got there almost at 3pm. 3 tables of 2 in the bar. I sat at the bar. Waited at least 5 minutes for a bartender or waitress to acknowledge me. Well, except for the waitress that was working the dining room that I could see at the waitress station staring at me while she ate something in plane view of everyone then didn't wash her hands. Finally when the waitress/bartender acknowledged me I got my menu without being told soup of the day or any specials. Way to upsell. They do have a very nice draft beer selection with the ice bar for your glass to sit on. In my professional opinion the menu is scary large. A lot of things cannot be fresh. Prices are a little high for the area to. Nothing really caught my eye so I got the old stand by, fish sandwich with fries. Small portion size on the fish. It might have been 4 ounces. Nice onion roll but could have been toasted. I ordered my fries well done but they came out soggy. The fish was greasy, fries were soggy and flavorless. Almost finished with my tasty beer and would have liked another but the 2 waitresses/bartender were to busy texting vigorously away in the waitress station where once again they were visual to customers and again did not wash hands. Phones are gross, I mean come on. Think of the places it goes! Finally when empty I was asked if I wanted another but I just got the check. Left cash on the bar and got outta dodge. I have had better at eat n park. Shame its a nice looking restaurant with a cool bar. Crappy service kills me. It's basic stuff. The menu, that needs major help. read more

I'm a frequent customer. My last 2 experiences have been the worst. Do we not have any good servers anymore? When having a male server it always seems to be a great visit. Let me tell you about the last experience. Took my family out to dinner, Crystal was our server. Very unfriendly and very unattendive! There was 8 of us. Morgan was our hostess and very nice and always has a smile on her face. I'm thinking maybe she should be bumped up to server! We told her our checks would be split in 2... couldn't get that right. Took her 3 times and still couldn't get that right. Our food came out. Didnt get our salads before the meal. Had to beg for rolls multiple times. After bringing the salads they didn't have the lettuce we requested. After telling her she got an attitude with my mother. Crystal told my mother "well thats the way it is". She brought out a new salad with raspberry vinaigrette on it instead of French like my Mom asked for. Then the meals came out. The steak is raw, asked for well done. The grilled chicken was also raw. The crispy chicken wrap had buffalo sauce on it and when ordered specifically said no sauce.. Ordered a ham and cheese on a pretzel bun, was definitely not that. Still not sure what she gave me. Didn't say anything about all that bc she had a nasty attitude. I should of asked for a manager, but the way she talked to my mom.. I was way to upset and I know I needed to cool down.. Unfortunately, we had our worst dining experience this evening. There was only one waitress on the floor trying to serve 4-6 tables. She took her time walking from table to table and approached with a miserable look on her face. I ordered a burger with fries and my wife ordered a wrap with fries and took almost an hour for our food to come out. Our waitress only checked on our table once during that time. When our food finally came out (brought by someone other than our waitress) we asked for to-go containers and our check so we could head out. Was the first time in my life not leaving a tip. A large group of us went here for Valentine's Dinner, and one couple was super picky and with anywhere they go nothing was good enough so we shall ignore their thoughts. The rest of our 9 person group including a 3 year old enjoyed our food and service. The waitress we had was super friendly, anything extra that was needed she brought promptly and with a smile. She even attempted a conversation with my daughter about her fuzzy boots who is super shy. Even through the other couples complaints she stayed completely friendly. I've been here multiple times and have only had great experiences at this place. The staff is super friendly and you are always greeted by someone, whether it's the owner or a server. The bar/deck area is so calm and comfy. You are served instantly and the deals during happy hour are so worth it. The bar is nice with a huge selection of alcohol and the bartender usually have great recommendations on what to drink. The dining area is beautiful. Very elegant and the service is perfectly fitting for the area. There is also a new side/deck area looks very nice but I have yet to sit there and see how it's like. Let's move on to the food. The food is so good for a local restaurant and is a place to hit if you're no from the area. Way better than Applebee's and other chains that are common for this area. I highly suggest trying the buffalo chicken wrap if you're a chicken lover. If you like burgers, try the nacho burger. Their appetizers are also worth the while. Overall, such a great place to bring your family, friends, have a first date, or just go when you have a hankering for a good burger. read more

The remodel after a fire a few years ago was a pretty significant upgrade. The menu is comparable to Applebee's, Friday's, etc. but they do play John Williams movie scores in the restroom -- it gets another star just for that. Tried this place again and still a no...love the interior but the food doesn't match...had a chicken sandwich named after the owners kid so you thought it'd be great...left a LOT to be desired...chicken barely sauced and dried out bread...more lettuce/onion than anything! She had a jumbo shrimp meal and it was overly breaded and fried way too hard...no shrimp taste whatsoever, just fried breading flavor! Also, we stood & waited at the greeter station for a good 5 minutes before seated...had to go look for an employee to seat us... Love the stone/wood interior but Sheetz food is better...and for those reasons, I'm out!! read more

I was passing through the area and found that this was one of the only sit down restaurants open on a Sunday. We were sat in the bar. No initial contact in the first few minutes and waiting became the norm for the service. My wife got the wings and a salad and I got a buffalo chicken sandwich. After a considerable wait the food came out. My chicken sandwich looked like a turkey sandwich but not knowing how they served the chicken I asked the server if this was chicken. She looked at the slip and said the slip says chicken. I took a bite...it was turkey. My wife finished her wings in the wait I had for my second sandwich. She said the wings were average and that the "hot" was nowhere near hot not even a medium heat. So order the very hot if you want any heat on your wings. Oh and when my buffalo chicken sandwich came out again it was a chicken and cheese sandwich she asked if I wanted a third sandwich and I refrain and just ate what they gave me. Average bar food at best. We waited 25 minutes just for the bill. Tire and uninspired. Will not be back. read more

I'm afraid I have to revise my prior rating, based on my most recent unsatisfactory visit. I came to Off the Rak for lunch on 8-07-12 with my aunt and uncle. After waiting for what seemed an eternity for our meals, our waitress informed my uncle that the restaurant was out of cole slaw. When asked whether he still wanted his rachel, my uncle, not wanting the kitchen to take longer than they already had, said he would take the sandwich anyway. When our orders did come, my aunt's pasta purses with shrimp were devoid of shrimp and soaked in butter. I ordered the lunch-sized steak salad, which came piled onto a too-small plate. When I tried to cut into my steak with the only knife I was given (a butter knife), my two sides of dressing ended up flying off the plate and into my lap! I had to flag the waitress down for more napkins, a larger plate, and a steak knife to cut the overcooked steak (ordered medium). The waitress then informed me that other customers have had problems with salads served on too small plates and told me, "Next time, order your lunch salad on a regular-sized plate." My question is, if this is an ongoing problem, why not just serve the lunch portion on a larger plate for everyone??? read more

While my husband & I go here quite a bit, I wouldn't say this place has the best food. It's kind of "hit & miss." Some things are really good: Sweet Bourbon Trio. Some things are not so good: Chicken Salad (cold fries on a ridiculous pile of limp lettuce with some "meh" chicken. Some things are awful: Purses Primavera (I tried twice, the pasta was extremely overcooked, but the veggies inside were raw both times.) It is a nice restaurant for the area & the service has always been good, but the food can be a gamble. read more

My husband and I went there for dinner at 4:30 P.M. He ordered the seafood medley which was tasteless and for the money was expecting something yummy. I ordered the fried fish which was nothing more than a Gordon's frozen fish from any grocery store. It too was tasteless, thank God for tartar sauce. I was told they were out of baked potatoes at 4:30 P.M.? Come on!!!!!!! Seriously, you have to ask for dinner rolls? When I did get one (1) it was as hard as a rock and very hot inside because it was heated in a microwave. Take my advice and eat at Kosta's. It's a small diner on the end of the mini mart on the way to Off the Rak. It is excellent and far less expensive with great service. read more

My family took me the Off the Rak for my 60th birthday. The waiters were attentive, coming to the table about 10 or more times. But, the coffee was not hot, the potatoes/fries were not hot, the steak was barely warm, the crab cakes were pretty much cold. The fajitas were hot! My son asked the waiter if they did anything special for birthdays. I guess I was to get a cake with candle. After 2 hours, we went home, and whatever special they had planned, did not come. I did not need the cake and candle, but don't promise something and then not do it. My family traveled far to get here. We will not be celebrating another birthday here. Is the problem in the kitchen, or is the staff overextended. If our food had comeo out 10 minutes sooner, it would have been at least warm. read more

We are a local couple who enjoy dining out occasionally. This restaurant is OK but not inspiring. The menu is probably the best you are going to get for this area where fast foods and deep fried bar foods definitely dominate the local eating scene. The service is the same. It is OK. The wait for the first contact with the wait staff was too long. We had four members of the staff including what I think was the owner stop by our table. Everyone was hurried and not particularly friendly or concerned about our experience. The wait between courses was long, which I did not mind because we were not in a hurry. But, there was no attention to detail and making sure our experience was a pleasurable on the part of the staff. Our appetizer arrived and sat until it was almost cold because we were not given plates and eating utensils. We waiting an agonizingly long time for our check then another long wait for the payment to be picked up. The waitress for our table was very attentive to another group at an adjoining table which appeared to be friends/family. The prices are indicative of top quality restaurants in the Pittsburgh where the food and service is much better. Too bad. This area needs and deserves better. read more
