My name is Tom King, 69 years old, from Lawrence, KS. I have purchased all my electronics from Best…read moreBuy since the mid-1980s. On Friday, April 25, I went to the store at 2020 W. 31st Street in Lawrence to buy a new phone. Johnathan was my salesperson. I needed an unlocked phone, Verizon-compatible. I'm a senior on a tight budget and he recommended a BLU G54 128GB for $119.99. I also purchased a one-year warranty for $29.99, and paid $39.99 for the data transfer from my 11-year old Motorola phone, also purchased at Best Buy. The total sale was $207.73. Johnathan transferred the SIM card to the new phone. The data transfer took 3.5 hours but I was still unable to connect to Verizon for service. I went to the BLU website that evening to verify that the G54 is compatible with Verizon, ATT, T-Mobile, Cricket and others. The BLU website confirmed that. The carrier specs on the G54 page on your website omit Verizon but include ATT. I was very clear with Johnathan that I was a Verizon customer and he assured me that the BLU G54 was Verizon-compatible. I returned the next day and talked with Zac. Very helpful and knowledgeable. He contacted a Verizon technician who verified that my account was in good standing, and that he recognized the device but couldn't connect me to service. Zac tried several possible solutions without result, eventually concluding the phone might be a dud. He replaced the phone, transferred the SIM and the data, but the result was the same. Zac advised me to go to the Verizon store. At the Verizon store, they told me the phone was an unsupported device. They tried two different SIM cards without resolution. The next morning I went to ATT, my Internet carrier. After another hour of trouble-shooting, they too found that the G54 was an unsupported device. As I had been without a phone for four days, I purchased an ATT phone and am now able to call and text. This morning, April 28, I went back to Best Buy to return the BLU G54. I dealt with Jared, the manager. He insisted the phone was compatible with Verizon and ATT when it clearly wasn't. His talk was accusing. He first tried to refund me $163.99 against the original sale of $207.73. When I disputed the restocking fee, he said, "My salespeople spent a lot of time on you and those guys don't work for free." This statement was witnessed by an employee in training. He also told me not to "try to avoid the restocking fee" in the future. After more grumbling, he refunded the full amount. The refund has yet to be deposited in my account. I've been a loyal Best Buy customer for over 40 years. I was planning to replace my MacBook Pro with a new Air this month, but after my encounter with Jared, I'll buy direct from Apple for the first time. I'm glad to see that Best Buy is doing so well that it can afford to discard lifelong customers. You sold me a phone based on compatibility with major carriers, particularly Verizon. Both Verizon and ATT declared the phone incompatible. Isn't that fraud?

I stood in front of a sales person for about 5 minutes who was at a computer. No, "I'll be right with you." No eye contact. No nothing. Completely ignored. Other sales people were chatting with each other but offering no assistance. I sat in the parking lot and ordered all the things I needed off Amazon. And while I'm not happy with Amazon these days and would rather avoid using the service, It was so much easier to purchase through them to avoid the frustration of poor customer service.

When the macbook, which is nearly 9 years old started lagging and needed new ram, I bought it and install it myself. Now I wanted to up date the PC. While the MacBook was easy, the PC immediately crashed. It took 10 minutes to get to the operating system and then it couldn't find Windows 10. Had I screwed up my computer? I immediately thought of Geek Squad at Best buy. There was a store down the street and they were reputable right? A minimum of $85 + parts. So I found these guys on Yelp, free estimate yaay! I took it to their shop and the repair guy quietly listened to my story and then told me he would not repair my PC. I asked why. He said: "You obviously know how to install RAM. You bought some bad RAM, remove it and return it. Once you remove it, it should go back to it's old self." I went home and did it and lo and behold it started working fine again, new ram on order from Amazon. Direct Computer outlet could have charged me, but they were honest and upfront. This is service you don't get anymore, as everyone has to hit quota numbers now. If you have a PC and want an honest assessment, I suggest these guys.

They did GREAT work for me a year or so ago, but this time, they completely failed to do what they had agreed to, and left me without a working laptop computer when I very much needed it for my job. After agreeing to make a simple but profitable repair on my laptop for $129 on the Friday before a three-day weekend, Amin (the manager) called me on Tuesday of the next week to say they had not done the work because they found an almost invisible crack in the bottom cover of the laptop. He said they would not do the work unless they were allowed to replace the bottom cover. He said he had tried to call me on Friday, but my phone logs showed no call from Uni. I use this computer for my job. As per our agreement, I had bought the replacement parts and taken Friday off so they could do this work, and had pressing work to do the next week, so their failure to do as they had promised and their after-the-fact notification that they had not done it was a huge problem for me. The work in question required zero technical skills - replacing a keyboard with a broken spacebar, and a damaged but working power port - so I watched a Youtube video of the job, bought compressed air and heat sink compound at Radio Shack, and did it myself. The crack in the bottom cover was not a problem, and the computer works perfectly - I am writing this review using it. I knew Uni would make a good profit off this job - it would have taken a half hour for someone who knew what they were doing- but I figured taking it to them would save me time. I was wrong.

There was a missing slot in the back where it looked liked they put in a card slot of some sort but removed it. For some reason, I never really thought to question it. If you get a computer from these guys and see something like it-question it. Question it seriously. With my recent system, I have been experiencing some problems with it when trying to edit video. I took it into another local computer repair shop to look at it for me. I upgraded the RAM but he said I needed a video card. He tried to install a couple video cards but neither worked. He realized there was a "dead spot" on the motherboard. Same reason my USB drives on the front of my computer weren't working properly. So it's logical to conclude that empty slot in the back was where they tried to install a video card, but instead of replacing the motherboard with one that properly works, they decided to sell me the computer without a proper video card. And also knowing full well there were "dead spots" in the motherboard. Who does this? What kind of computer store worth any kind of reputation would treat a customer like this? Another thing I found out was the heat sink they put in my unit was for AMD, but I am running on Intel. This is just sloppy work, and leaves a very bad impression. Come to think of it, I recall after I got the computer, the CD/DVD drive wasn't working properly either. When I took it in, the guy working there got angry about it and broke the door off the drive. He installed another CD/DVD drive in a different slot. Hmmm... probably was an issue with that faulty mother board you put in there, I would imagine? If you don't want a reliable system, want a computer place that cuts corners, out right ignores faulty equipment they put in their custom built systems, and charge you a premium price, this place is for you. But I suggest if you want great service and a computer shop that actually takes pride in putting the best custom systems that will run for years and years to come, shop elsewhere. I am giving two stars- one star for the horrible custom built they sold me a few years back that I now realize was faulty out their door, and one extra star for the custom build they sold me before that that actually ran like a champ. The lack of consistency and lack of taking pride in their work and fixing issues that customers may not realize are a problem until years down the road is a reason to avoid these clowns. They don't value their customers at all. They treat them like putzes.

While there are places on the internet one can get quality systems from, I'm a hands on person so I like to go in, check out computers and talk to people while customizing. Moreover, I like to walk around and Micro Center appeals to my inner nerd. So, what does Microcenter offer, well lots of computers, accessories and everything an aspiring nerd needs to enter the digital world in style. If you're a graphical artist, they have drawing tables and stylist, musically inclined they have adapters to cover that too along with software but I encourage research or talking to a sales rep before buying. How about that keyboard that fits those tired hands? I see a dozen options before we even get into the backlit keyboards. Mice with over 20 buttons for those hardcore gamers will also tempt you. How about a laptop for computing on the go? Well that "buying best" place can only dream of as many options. As for me, while I've built my computer before I decided to let MicroCenter take care of it. The installation cost was low and I was able to build my "super computer" for cheap, a warranty and it was done within three days. What was a lot of fun is the saleman and I talked for about 45 minutes about World of Warcraft b/c he's a player as well. Although he did try and sell me a monitor however I have that covered. I did browse the TV section out of curiosity and noticed their prices and inventory are competitive with other stores as well. I'll admit, I love this place and it's my first option when I need a computer. I like talking to people and discussing options rather than grabbing it off a website. Micro Center has an informed sales staff, a lot of inventory and competitive prices for everything you may need, including phones! My suggestion is stop on by, you won't regret it but be guarded you might buy more than you thought! Be strong Daniel-son!
