It turned out that my ID was expired, which was fine, but when we asked him a question about it (if I left, could my partner still shop) he just stared at us with his arms crossed and said "I answered all your questions." When pressed that it's okay if we can't buy anything, we'd just like to know for the future, he became aggravated and raised his voice before getting his manager. The manager seemed afraid of this man. If I could give zero stars I would, we will not be coming back and we plan on contacting the GM.

Kalamazoo's may have a broken window out front that won't get repaired for days and days. Battle Creek repairs it. Kalamazoo's just feels dingy and dirty. Battle Creek's is brightly lit and clean. For example: We bought some Helados frozen fruit bars once in Kalamazoo. We got them home - and we travel with an insulated cooler in our cars to keep the cold things we buy cold - and when we opened the package up we discovered they were no longer in the traditional fruit bar shapes. We figured the packages had sat in the store's aisle awaiting to be shelved in the freezers, had started to melt, and then was shelved and the contents refroze. We took the bars back to the Kalamazoo store and the staff was cool about the return. And then two months later it happened AGAIN. So now we buy the Helados bars in Battle Creek and carry them home in our iced cooler.

It is an extremely environmentally-friendly way for WMU to reduce reuse recycle furniture, electronics, new lightbulbs, textbooks, a piano, chairs, file cabinets...just about anything you can imagine being used at a University, they have it. Follow their facebook page (WMU surplus sales) for up-to-date inventory (new things posted weekly!), but definitely stop by to see what they have. I was pleasantly surprised. Office chairs are $3! What was particularly funny to me were the industrial-type desk staplers...they would make a GREAT gift for someone that loves stapling. This has been the biggest shopping surprise in my entire time living in Kalamazoo. You'll never know what you will find! The staff are SO kind and friendly. Parking: there is a lot across the street; do not park on the street. EVEN better, the entrance is at the back by the loading dock, so park back there.
