The owner does a great job making sure the measurements are accurate and it takes maybe 20-30 minutes to get measured and choose an option. They have so so so many options available to choose from and any color you need. I was given the option to pay upfront or upon pick up which I appreciated. They make sure everything fits properly when you pick up and it took maybe 15 minutes to try everything on & get it adjusted just right. Drop off takes less than 2 minutes to verify all items are accounted for.

As it happened, we did not end up conserving the textile piece because it was so badly damaged, but the experience was so positive I brought them an Ambrotype I'd received. The image quality had suffered a great deal in the 160-plus years it had been kicking around my family. Our goal was to stop any more damage occurring to image on the glass and, if possible, clean and/or brighten the picture. Well. The Conservation Center did a MAGNIFICENT job! It's stunning! A beautiful portrait of a woman circa 1860. The care, the craftsmanship... it's clear my little treasure was just as much a treasure to them as well. And with their help, the image of a that long-gone matriarch will preside over the family for at least a hundred more years. I cannot recommend The Conservation Center enough. And, I shall be bringing them another piece to look at.

They have good quality fabrics and especially good quality thread. They repair sewing machines, so when the old 1960s Kenmore machine I bought needed a cleaning and adjustment I brought it in. It was returned cleaned, oiled and with a new correct needle. I also purchased a set of needles for different things. I mostly just mend clothing, but I have a periodic older visitor who uses the machine for her quilting projects, so I wanted it to be in top shape. In addition they sell very high quality machines that are borderline commercial systems you can program to do all kinds of fancy projects. Service here is very friendly. They also have classes!

But today I took an actual class on machine embroidery and had a blast. I learned so much and learned how to do things correctly. Being self taught isn't always the best. My intention was to save up more money for a sewing only Babylock machine. But they had a trade in embroidery and sewing machine for the exact same price as the new machine. After some testing of the machine and negotiations with the husband the Adventura II came home with me. For the class I used a Babylock Aria that had ALL the bells and whistles. The first time was great with no issues, the second time was not…read more There were a lot of small things that really added up to a mediocre (borderline bad) experience. I added on packing paper to the order 3 days after placing it. 1) When the order arrived I found a bug in the bubble wrap. 2) I was asked to delay my pickup date, which I did even though tiny apartments in Chicago don't leave much room for storing large plastic tubs and it really messed with my ability to properly move in and decorate. 3) On pickup day the driver didn't want to take the elevator upstairs to pickup the boxes so I had to bring them down to the ground floor myself. On their website picking up boxes is included in the price. There were no stairs for him to navigate at all so there really wasn't an excuse for this. 4) A month after placing (and being charged for) my order I received a receipt for an additional charge. I called multiple times to figure out what the charge was for but no one ever answered the phone. I even responded to the text they sent but received no response. I did some math to figure out it was for the packing paper that I guess they forgot to charge for. This last issue is what really made me write this review. To go around charging people's card and not telling them what for is crazy. Not a horrible experience but I'll probably try another company next time.
