Disappointed by Front Office Experience…read more The orthodontist and back staff at MBO Orthodontics in Salinas are truly great -- kind, professional, and attentive. Unfortunately, the front office experience, specifically with Alma (the receptionist), has been consistently unpleasant. On multiple occasions, she has been dismissive and rude when I've asked legitimate questions about costs and the "retainers for life" program. After paying over $2,000 for my son's treatment, I was told I needed to pay an additional $800, so naturally, I wanted clarification. Instead of a helpful explanation, I received an attitude as if I was bothering her or asking something unreasonable. Her tone, body language, and lack of patience made me feel disrespected and uncomfortable -- This is also not the first time. In the past she had been calling me "hun" or "honey" in a condescending way, which was inappropriate given her attitude when I simply had questions. Because of this, I ultimately chose not to move forward with any upgrade services this time. It's unfortunate because the clinical team is excellent, but experiences like this make a lasting impression. People remember how they're treated, especially at the start and end of care, and this interaction really overshadowed an otherwise great experience. I also get it, it's hard working in customer service but it's not right to treat anyone this way or even just a few people (like me and others once in a while). I really hope MBO Salinas calls me to validate my concerns and maybe answer questions I was left unanswered because I still don't understand the service I am still interested in and need.

At the time, he told me that eventually they would even out...humm....yah...right. He is a wonderful orthodontist but this was a quick procedure that I think was not considered thoroughly by him. I came originally to get braces for a more even mouth after all. He could have been more exact but instead brushed over my concern and now my two front teeth are uneven. I see this every time I look in the mirror and will continue to for the rest of my life....sigh. My family did pay in advance for the braces so it would have been appreciated if he would have been more thorough at the end.

I initially went in for a second opinion because my former dentist told me a root canal needed to be redone. However, this dentist told me it wasn't necessary, so I stayed with him. Shortly after, he even cleared me to get braces. Four years ago, another dentist at the same office saw me and confirmed that the same root canal did need to be done. Because he was my primary dentist, I had to wait to see him for the final word. When I finally did, he said I was fine. I saw him again this past January, and he told me everything looked good. However, the hygienist I saw in March pointed out that the tooth needed to be fixed, noting it had already been flagged by the other doctor four years prior.They finally scheduled an appointment for him to do the root canal, but when I arrived, he told me I now need an implant. For years he told me I was fine, and then suddenly I need an implant. He completely failed to keep me informed about what was actually happening with my teeth. I am incredibly disappointed in him, and I feel deeply saddened by how this was handled. I trusted him completely, and it hurts to know that my tooth could have been saved if he had just listened to his colleagues and properly monitored my care. The office manager told me that writing a bad review wouldn't make me feel any better. However, I am writing this so that others don't have to go through the same painful experience.

They have an in-house ceramic tooth builder and it is great when you are trying to do a one-visit replacement. They give honest recommendations on the health of my teeth. I think the best recommendation was going back to a really good electric toothbrush. They sell one through their office for a nominal fee, but it is really worth and there is a $20 rebate. I would highly recommend my hygienist, Elizabeth A., as she is great doing her job and getting all that plaque off of my teeth.
