Super chill and relaxed. I jumped on as a last-minute solo addition to a group 2-hour lesson. They run a tight ship and give you as many waves as you're able to paddle out for. I did not take surfing lessons, just my two sons aged 9 and 7. It is indirect review. My two sons must have had a blast during the past two days surfing with Ohana Surf Project. They begged me to extend our vacation for two more days to take additional surfing lessons. I had to extend everything from hotels airtickets and rental cars but, I did not hesitate since I have not seen them so excited about outdoor activities like this. Two instructors and all the staff were very friendly. I believe their names were Kevin and Matt.( Not too sure about the names). It was the best $ I spent for my two Ipad addicted sons. Surf Project during our son's spring break from college the first week of April. It was exhilarating! They showed us a series of slides with all sort of helpful tips and then a mini lesson on the boards beachside learning how to get up to standing. Then out to the waves! Matt was our teacher and was so patient and helpful getting us out on the waves. It felt challenging but the whole Ohana team was encouraging and we felt well supported-truly a family feel to their approach. They are located in a beautiful spot on the zoo side of Waikiki and near a lovely little beachside restaurant and restrooms. You can enjoy the views of Diamond head and Waikiki from the training area if you can take a moment-wonderful experience! What helped me to relax was Chelsea's thorough knowledge of how to be safe in the water, which is what I didn't learn that last time. Surfed for the first time in my life with these guys last week. They promptly picked me up from the hotel, gave me a video tutorial in a van, followed by a land tutorial, and before you can say "surfs up," we were waist deep in the water jumping onto the board. Tim, my instructor, was there the entire time next to me, keenly sensing my semi-concealed sense of doom. He instilled in me a good sense of security and we had a lot of fun catching waves. Our family of 4 had an amazing experience surfing with Ohana Surf Project. You get the opportunity to surf a perfect, gentle reef break off Waikiki with warm waters & beautiful scenery. Our instructors (Troy, Matt, Chelsea) were all super helpful knowing exactly how to put us on waves. My daughters (ages 10 & 12) were a little nervous about surfing in the ocean, but our instructors put them at ease right away with great attitudes & close attention. The girls were able to catch a bunch of waves & had so much fun that we rented a board from Ohana a couple days later for us all to do some more surfing. Ohana also does an awesome job getting photos/videos of the whole experience which you can purchase after viewing. Booked a family lesson for my 10-year old and myself, and a private lesson for my 13-year old. Chose Ohana because of Yelp 5-star rating and was very satisfied with the decision. Van pickup near our Waikiki hotel was convenient and took us to a stretch of Waikiki near San Souci park that was not crowded, so learning conditions were ideal. Check-in was organized, and we started with a quick orientation/instructional slideshow from 1 of the instructors. Then we practiced the motions of getting up on the board and did a stretch routine for safety and injury prevention. Then into the waves. Instructors Lani and Kevin were friendly and patient, and all of us got up on the boards repeatedly with their coaching. Truly ideal learning conditions here in Waikiki! We paid for the photos in advance and it was well worth the $50 extra. GM Chelsea was friendly and helpful throughout the process. These guys and gals are as good as they get! Super professional and experienced as well as patient, courteous and FUN!! They had everyone's safety in mind at all times and instilled an amazing amount of enthusiasm, confidence and support throughout the lesson. The group lesson my husband and I took was so fantastic, we ended up extending the session for an additional hour. In my opinion, don't even bother considering any of the other local surf schools/rentals. Since we were the last lesson of the day, they even dropped us off at the place we were staying at in Waikiki. Now that's service! Wow! I booked a fairly last minute lesson with this crew thanks to a recommendation from a former customer and was blown away! The instructors were all fantastic, from Matt's thorough safety debrief to Chelsea's encouragement in the water and Josh's patience in teaching...they were rock stars! We did a family 1-hour lesson for stand-up paddleboards. Two adults and two kids (aged 12 & 10). The Ohana pros were great! They gave us clear instructions and took care to explain everything the whole time. We were all standing up and paddling on our own within a few minutes (with some variation in skill...the kids and my wife were better than I was...but I got there) The water was calm and the wind was moderate, but Josh took the time nonetheless to give us some safety instructions, so that we could rent boards on our own later in the trip. I appreciated that extra concern! The photos and video the Ohana team took during our whole lesson were great! We opted to buy the whole package... Recommend them highly! read more

This was such a great lesson for my kids that they back a second day and rented the birds and they were so kind and told us that they could stay near the instructors so they can keep an eye out on them as well. Overall Awesome. No other way to say it. Great team approach - Chelsea and Danny and all the other team members were very gracious and coordinated both in and out of the water. Their clear coaching during the lesson showed how much experience they have working with first timers like me. Wonderful. Online waivers and online payments were very easy and worked well. Website was clear & FAQ was excellent. They secured and looked after all my personal items (phones, clothes, etc) the whole time. All the equipment was in very good shape. Communication was wonderful - multiple emails and texts confirming everything, before an after. Hotel pick up and drop off were very handy. Best outfit for surf lessons on Waikiki. A few steps away from the worst crowds, next to the groovy beach hut cafe. This crew will get you surfing or surfing again right away and make it all easy, safe and fun. You won't be running all over other people and they have better surfboards that won't give you a nasty leg rash like the usual blue rubber topped rental boards. It was a great experience! Never had surfed before but wanting to push ourselves on this trip so booked a private lesson. Just me and my sister along w instructor Chelsea. She was right on time picking us up and getting us in the water quick. Super nice and helpful, even helping you paddle out. It's worth the photo package!
