Not only is their sandwich shop adorable and full of delicious things. But they also catered my wedding. First and foremost, the food was delicious. Everything was fresh and served at good temperature. Dozens of our guests raved, and everything I got a chance to taste was exactly what we wanted. We did a wine/beer cocktail hour with passed and stationed hors d'oeurves, and a buffet dinner. Hors d'oeurves included two kinds of crostini (goat cheese/fig/pistachios/honey, and fava bean/prosciutto/pecorino), an artichoke dip, mini lobster rolls, and okra corn fritters with garlic buttermilk dip (which we barely got, as everyone ate them all). So delicious. For the buffet we did a salad, four veggies, and two entrees. Salad was a spinach salad with strawberries, feta, and pecans. Vegetables included cabbage and beet buttermilk slaw, sweet corn pudding, pimento cheese potato gratin, and skillet green beans with shallots. Mains were skirt steak with parsley sauce and pork tenderloin with Madeira and fig gravy. The skirt steak was by far the best, that and the corn pudding. So, so, so delicious. And beyond that, for the business end of the catering Molly and Josh are a great team and extremely easy to work with. We had been nervous about finding a caterer to handle food, rentals, setup, changeover from chapel seating to tables in the courtyard where we had the ceremony/reception, etc. etc. But Molly and Josh covered everything and put us at ease. Molly handles the business end, selecting the menu, negotiating prices, contracting rentals, and Josh works with the staff for day-of setup and service. We had a set price per head that we wanted to stay within, and Molly helped us find ways to adjust the menu, rentals, bar and staffing to help us stay as close to budget as we could. They don't upsell, and respected what we were looking for in terms of menu, budget, and look and feel. We had an outdoor wedding at Akwaaba Mansion in Bed-Stuy, and Molly and Josh came for site visits, drew out a map of how the tables and seating would work, and worked with my day-of coordinator (a friend) to revise the plan the day before the wedding, when we had to tent the courtyard at the last minute. The service staff on the day of were so sweet -- young, funky, relaxed and playful, and helped without being weirdly invisible, overly stiff, or invasive. I might understand its because we are in a fan zone and the number of people is overwhelming but I believe an extra person or 2 should have been added to avoid such issue. Food: I got the Cheeseburger sliders that comes with fries. Although the portion was small, The fries were delicious and crispy. The burger were alright and definitely would need improvement in term of the beef patty size and have the bread toasted or add some sauce to it.

The operation is clean and well-run, and their stand at the festival turns out amazing, wholesome, richly spiced and always delicious food for thousands of festivalgoers. Needless to say, if they can handle the hustle and bustle of a huge music festival, they definitely have the expertise to cater your event. My favorite thing is the vegetarian curry goat. It is the stuff of dreams. I'm not sure what vegetarian protein they use--probably seitan?--but it is toothsome and hearty. The spices are intoxicating. You can get the curry goat and any of their other entree items either as a platter or a salad in a deep-fried tortilla bowl (which is delicious and perfect if you are spending a long day at a festival). If you see their stand at an event, definitely check it out, and if you are looking to feed a bunch of vegetarians at a party or other event, give them a call. The other stands were all local companies, which I figured I could get anytime, right? Let's try something different and exotic! So, before I order my food, I ask the lady if they accept credit cards (since I had a whopping $1 with me). She said yes, I proceeded to order. She then hands me my food, I give her my credit card, and am then told that the machine can't send the signal, so my card won't work. Great! She then held my food hostage while another friend came to my rescue with some cash. Get your act together, Nyota, this is the 21st century and you're using some old-school credit card machine? Then I finally get to taste my food. If you like overly-processed, extremely high sodium food, then this might be your thing. If you also like food that's drowning in long, slimy onion strands (aka worms), then this is DEFINITELY your thing. Quantity-wise, it was well worth my $9 but quality-wise, I feel like I need to detox until the winter solstice. My advice? If you want delicious vegan food that will also make you feel good, Nyota's Ting is not it.
