Where do I begin. I've known Amy and Jessica for quite some time now, and even had the pleasure of working with them personally. They're a knockout team. As an event planner, I offered to take on the responsibility of planning my boss (and dear friend), Lauren's wedding; Lauren and her fiancee Andy had gone back and forth serval times about food options, and couldn't find a common ground. When I felt like all hope was lost in finding a compromise between both their palettes, I remembered Sweet Basil; how didn't I think of this before?! Their uniqueness and ability to create dishes to suit their guests needs and tastes is flawless. Their presentation and professionalism is above and beyond. When I approached Jessica with my dilemma, I knew that this would be exactly what Lauren and Andy were looking for. Jessica was extremely busy at the time, prepping by herself for a couple-hundred person catering (talk about Wonder Woman!). Even still, she immediately put her work aside and came to sit and talk with Lauren, Andy and I for a good half hour about our options and how we could make the dishes a bit more unique to their group. Within days we had a proposal and the deal was done. As someone who works with people on a daily basis for events, to be on the receiving end of a personal connection like that was truly amazing and so rare. That is how a business should be run. Fast forward to the wedding: Jessica arrived three hours early with her two servers Vlad and Dusan. Vlad and Dusan were immediately productive in helping the venue host clean the space and set up the chairs--again, above and beyond. They were fast, efficient, and even in between helping clean the place and set up the chairs, they still helped Jessica set up the food items, our own personal alcohol and water/sparkling water, an did so in such a professional, prompt manner. The team was tight-knit and on point the entire night. Dusan and Vlad were so attentive to all of the wedding guests, promptly picking up dishes and glasses as people discarded them at the nearest table, and kept the food stocked fully and fresh. Their dedication and service during this event could not have been any more excellent. Jessica had prepared two main dishes and four side dishes for the wedding. Starting with the main dishes, she prepared a three cheese Mac-N-Cheese with a Parmesan-panko topping and mini vegetable tacos with all the best fixings: lime roasted sweet potato, pinto beans and black beans, homemade pico de gallo, sour cream, lettuce, and cotija. For the sides, Jessica prepared sautéed skillet greens with truffle butter, grilled portobello with gorgonzola, spinach greens, stuffed red peppers with spinach, goat cheese, and romesco sauce, and a honey dijon vinaigrette, and a heirloom tomato salad with ricotta salt, basil, mint, and Yuzu vinaigrette. I really loved that they had a menu on the buffet table with descriptions of each of the items; it was clean, elegant, and professional. I can't even begin to tell you how many times people came up to Jessica thanking her for the amazing food, or commenting on the flavor and exquisiteness of the food. If I had to guess, maybe 20? Of a 60-invitee wedding, about 40 or so showed up...and just around HALF commented on how amazing the food tasted. That made even ME feel good...and I didn't even make a single thing! There was so much left over food, and Jessica packaged it all up for the guests to take home, and the smiles on their faces when they saw they could have "doggy-bags" to take home...priceless. As people started filing out to head home, Jessica, Vlad, and Dusan were discretely deep cleaning. There wasn't a drop of evidence they were even there. They had washed all of the wine glasses, bowls, plates and other serve ware we rented, packaged them neatly back in their boxes/crates. They gathered the chairs, swept, wiped down the counters...it was amazing to see all of this happen without any guidance necessary. They just knew, and did what was necessary to pull of this event and leave the space looking better than when they got there. I can't say it enough: above and beyond service, above and beyond professionalism. Sweet Basil was one the preferred wedding vendor list at the venue where my fiancee and got married. We called several of the caterers they recommended and Sweet Basil had the most interesting menu and was the most flexible caterer we spoke to. We were looking for much more than the typical catering you get at weddings. We're both foodies and trusted Sweet Basil to work with us on an exciting and different kind of menu that incorporated my laid back southern roots and my husband's Moroccan culture. The food was fantastic and earned rave reviews all night. One of my favorite hors d'oeuvres were chicpea, parsley & preserved lemon fritters. We also had a grilled nectarine bruschetta that was yummy. Our first course was a roasted carrot, pomegranate and mint salad that was delicious and beautiful. The entree was lamb tagine with dates and cous cous. It was so tender and even better than those I tried in Morocco. The service was just as impressive as the food. We were attending an event in New York city from out of town and planned an offsite event using Amy and Sweet Basil Catering. They were extremely professional, went beforehand to the venue to make sure it had all of the required needs to facilitate catering. We had some onsite issues with the Venue and Alek and his team didn't get flustered, went with the changed room location (one they didnt tour) and still stayed completely professional and no attendees were wise to last minute updates to the event. The food and service was fantastic! Our guests enjoyed the menu, especially the chicken and waffles, and the service was nonstop and seamless. We would 100% use Sweet Basil Catering again if we were to hold another event in New York City. I can't say enough good things about Sweet Basil. They catered my wedding at Home Studios and contributed so much more than just catering. For starters, Amy and Mike were a pleasure to work this right from the beginning. They really know their stuff and put together a creative and interesting menu that incorporated elements from both of our cultures. The bulgogi beef melted in your mouth. One of my faves. To say the food was great would be an understatement. It was superb. They are clearly on their cooking game and managed to serve the food on time and perfectly prepared. If you're a foodie you will love these guys. Leading up to our wedding day they were very responsive and came up with ways to save us money here and there. We considered several corporate caterers before choosing Sweet Basil Catering for our annual Savvy Ladies Fundraiser. We were so glad we did! Owner, Amy Aversa was great, managing all the details prior to the event, she put together the perfect menu for our NYC professionals (~125 attendees) The food was yummy--try the ginger cookie sandwiches! Our venue was a bit out of the norm, but that didn't seem to phase Amy and her staff. Our chef Jessica, jumped in to help when one of our other vendors was a no show, and our captain Chris was visible and attentive up to the last minute. Working with Amy was amazing! My start-up company found out on Thursday that we were going to be featured on a national television program on Sunday. So, on Thursday, we decided to throw a catered party for our team and investors -- and I was definitely worried that it was too last minute to pull together anything remotely respectable. But - Amy was beyond accommodating! She guided me through the food selection, answered my calls over the weekend, and dealt with a variety of last minute changes. We hired Amy to cater our wedding at a loft in the West Village. We wanted to plan a somewhat non-traditional reception and ceremony with a bit of Indian fusion. Amy came up with creative ideas for the reception party, as well as really interesting and creative food options with some Indian and Western food options. We ended up doing passed appetizers and food stations. Everyone raved about the food, layout, staff, etc. People easily mingled from one food station to another. And, the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. When the staff realized I didn't even get a chance to eat, one of the staff members quickly came back with a plate of food from every appetizer and food station. We used Sweet Basil Catering for a baby shower in early May. They were amazing! The food was delicious - we had a Southern vibe with black eyed pea salad, mini fried chicken on a waffle (out of this world), pimento cheese fritters, pulled pork sliders - the works! The staff was courteous, professional and seamless, at times I forgot they were even there. I always had a full drink and food in hand. I work in events so I am one of the worst people to attend other's events, I notice everything. Not with Sweet Basil! They paid attention to every detail, they were super organized, they managed to bring in all of their equipment and food seamlessly as well as leaving the apartment spotless when they left. My husband was turning 40 so I wanted to throw him a cocktail birthday party at our home for about 50 guests. One of my friends who regularly hires caterers for her corporate events had nothing but raves about Sweet Basil's food and service so I went with it. And I am so glad that I did! Wow. I plan events for a fashion magazine and we are always in need of caterers who are able to provide food that is not only delicious, but that looks chic for the stylish set. We hired Sweet Basil for an in-store shopping event for 100 guests in Tribeca and they far exceeded (what I use as my measuring tool) "The 3 P's": Prompt, Polite, Professional. The staff worked with us to come up with room-temperature options since we did not have refrigeration capabilities and limited prep space. The favorites of the night were the salmon tartare and quinoa shrimp cake and ricotta bruschetta. The staff were attractive and well-groomed and interacted seamlessly with our guests. Sweet Basil did an outstanding job of catering our engagement party last weekend at Home Studios. From the start Amy was really easy to work with. She helped us create a menu that incorporated our love of comfort food. And the food totally exceeded our expectations, as did the service. There was not a single disappointing item on the menu. I especially loved the mini lobster rolls and the shrimp and corn croquettes. They also created a specialty cocktail for us which incorporated watermelon juice and cucumber juice, which sounds strange, but was delicious. Sweet Basil's staff was really friendly and helpful. Amy Aversa (the owner) was so professional and friendly, and generally a pleasure to work with. Overall, the entire team offered great service before and during the event, and were very helpful.
