My partner and I ordered delivery from here. We tried 3 of the items and decided or experience was 3.5/5 stars! (Rounding up) He really enjoyed the queso arepas and sweet plantains! The arepas arrived still hot with melty cheese. While I thought they were a little oily for me, I have yet to meet an arepa that isn't so I can agree these were good. The sweet plantains were a little small portion wise but had good flavor. We also tried the grilled corn and queso. This was reminiscent of esquites but missed the mark for us. The cheese was layered on top, almost difficult to mix in as the steam from the cup sort of started to melt the cheese. It also was missing mayo/crema, any seasoning like Tajín/chili powder and it came with a lemon slice instead of a lime :( I'd be open to trying them again, but really to try their juice. I called to get the address of the restaurant as I was going to attend with a group of people in a few minutes. The woman put me on hold saying she didn't know so how did she get to work? She puts me on a long hold and then just says 40 Wesr. I then asked her where where is 40 W., which St. and which Avenue. She then hung up on me because at that point I was going to ask to speak to her manager, but I didn't tell her that. I kept calling back six times and just got a musical recording as she refuses to pick up the phone. I even used *67 so she had no idea that it was me and wasn't picking up the phone losing more customers for the Restaurant, then she already lost. When you're hire people to answer the phones, make sure they speak English and at the very least, make sure they know where they are for goddamn sakes. What a lousy manager and store owner that allows somebody like this MORON to pick up the phone. This goes back to management. They hire an idiot then they're going to get complaints and the complaints reflect the managers and the owner who are doing a lousy job and recruiting employees for the wrong spots. She didn't know where she was and how much does she careabout her job if she doesn't even make an effort to write down the address if she can't remember it. read more

I've eaten here three times in the past week because the food is usually very good--easily a solid 4 stars. However, on 07/26, I had a really negative experience. The restaurant was nearly empty, and it felt like a slow Saturday night, which may have affected the staff's attention to detail. We ordered a bowl with steak, rice, corn, and beans, along with a separate order of sancocho soup with white rice. Unfortunately, the rice and beans had a strange, undercooked consistency. Oddly, the beans were served separately from the bowl instead of mixed in as usual. Both the beans and rice, along with the soup, were served cold--clearly not freshly prepared and likely just poorly reheated/microwaved. I returned to the counter and asked for everything to be reheated. What I got back was a scalding hot soup, still-cold beans, and a different type of rice than I originally ordered. I could barely eat the food since the quality was quite subpar this time. Needless to say, the experience was extremely disappointing and I'm unlikely to return. read more

I loved everything I ordered from this place. The food is great. I got the fried chicken with sweet plantains cilantro rice mushrooms black beans and Brussels. The ambiance is cool but it's not like a sit down restaurant really. It's more like of healthy upscale fast food. Two things negative but I won't count it against them: they do need some sturdier tables and chairs for folks who choose to dine in. The door also says they have coffee but they don't seem to. That was the only negative I have. I loved the food it was large portions and all the veggie options available hit it out of the park for me personally. Cocina del Sur is a a great Latin restaurant serving up delicious Colombian food. I've been thoroughly impressed with the food here. I've only ordered from here twice and both times I ordered the strip steak but each time it's been great. I ordered the plate which comes with two sizes and the portion sizes are great. I got rice and tostones as my sides. Tostones were cooked perfectly. The rice was fluffy but a little greasy. I didn't specify how well I wanted my steak but I like that they cook it well done by default. It was nice and tender but not dry. The sauces are also spectacular. I've had the peppercorn and chimichurri and both are great. I slightly prefer the chimichurri though. I highly recommend this place if you want to have authentic Latin food with good seasoning. read more

This place isn't all that I expected it to be. FYI, there's no restroom here for the customers if you're looking for one. I ordered food for my coworker and myself on the tablet bc the employee at the front said to do so instead of ordering with the cashier. She helped out as I was on the tablet as I had questions about the orders. It was quite pricey for a salad in a bowl and $2-$4 more if you wanted a plate. Of course, I chose the salad bowl over the plate. I wouldn't go back as my coworker said that it was a rip-off as you get more salad than rice mixed inside. I am writing this review to alert prospective and current clients not to order Sancocho Soup. Via a delivery service I ordered Sancocho Soup, which was advertised as "Buy One, Get One Free." With this soup being a favorite I eagerly placed my order. To my disappoint the soup was not Sancocho Soup, but Chicken Soup. The soup had only chicken, and none of the other ingredients (meat) for Sancocho Soup. When calling the restaurant, the representative answering the phone was curt and informed me the restaurant only has one (1) soup. I continued to explain of the soup contents and received a non concerned attitude to my complaint. When picking up my food, since the space is long and narrow, glad to see they are enforcing social distancing with a designated ordering line and separate pick up line, with stickers on the ground indicating where waiting customers can stand 6 feet apart. They have plates, bowls and salad options and I opted for a bowl. Similar to other fast/casual places you choose a base and add a protein, 2-3 sides and a sauce. I went with grilled organic chicken, roasted zucchini, snow peas and green beans, and fried sweet plantains over coconut rice. Some reviews mentioned their chimichurri sauce, so I thought why not give it a shot? Yummmm. So glad I did! So tasty and went great with the chicken. Every item in the bowl was fresh and delicious. K and I met friends for dinner here one night. We really appreciated that they were open until 9 pm since since some people were coming from Jersey and we were arriving from work. I didn't get there until 6:30pm. The fruits for the beverages were imported from South America. The blackberry drink was so refreshing and terrific with the bowl. I've never had the guanábana or sour sop before! It tasted like drinking a combo of pineapple, plantain and banana taste and flavor. Very interesting. I was glad to try it. We shared the following: Arepa- this was so crunchy on the outside with such a cheesy inner filling. I'm used to arepas to be stuffed inside so this was more like a fried cheese disc added to the bowl. Shrimp plate with coconut rice and sweet plantains and mango. The shrimp was juicy and well flavored. I would love to try the coconut rice next time. Grass fed skirt steak with chimichurri sauce, quinoa and salad bowl with roasted brussel sprouts, sweet plantains, roasted corn and jalapenos. The roasted vegetables had a umami flavor and were sweet. The steak was a little dry but still flavorful. I enjoyed the sweetness of the plantains and the umami flavor of the roasted corn and brussel sprouts. The jalapenos were spicy and pickled. I would skip this next time. Fried chicken with roasted corn, roasted brussel sprouts, roasted cauliflower and sauteed mushrooms in a lettuce/quinoa bowl. The fried chicken was crunchy and juicy inside. The chicken was moist, which goes well with the chimichurri. I was shocked at how well seasoned it was and well-cooked given the fast-food aspect of the restaurant. The salmon and tofu were also amazing. The shrimp itself was good but the salad was mostly lettuce (lots and lots and lots of lettuce) and very little else. Potatoes were very greasy so I wouldn't order those again either.
