As someone with crystal knowledge this was quite sad for what was advertised being in the bucket/ cost vs quantity and quality of what was actually in the bucket. You are definitely only paying for the experience of "mining" the crystals. If you are there for just the fun then I suggest only buying a smaller bucket.

Besides putting a kayak/canoe in the water, there's not much more to do here at this state park…read more There's a public beach, but we didn't try swimming there since there are a lot of ducks and geese around. The beach was filled with their droppings and loose feathers. There's a public restrooms, some picnic tables and benches, spacious parking lots to accommodate school groups or large family gatherings. Of course, being on a water is very relaxing. There's a marina in the parking premise, so it makes it very convenient to rent canoes, kayaks and motor boats. I think they have two-hour minimum for rentals.

Unless they've been removed, restrooms are on the back side of the shelter. I make an annual trek back to Logan and always include a vist to the park. Great escape for kids and adults.

The playground at Kachelmacher Park is like the park that time forgot. It's straight up the 1980s…read morein this park, with all of the vintage metal playground equipment that you and I grew up with that totally would not fly today. Basically, all of those rides and slides that would burn your legs in the summer are here and still providing kids with hours of fun at Kachelmacher. There's the metal twisty slide, the long metal straight slide, the metal character riders, the metal monkey bars, the metal straight bars to do your flips, the metal geodesic dome -- all the metal. We visited on a mild spring day, so the metal equipment wasn't a problem, but I imagine that in the summer, the equipment will get hot. Just be aware of that. There are also more modern things, like swings, a play firetruck, a teeter totter, a wooden fort and a plastic play area for younger children. There are also lots of picnic tables at which to sit, as well as a shaded and covered area with picnic tables for a party, and a fireplace hearth. (It wasn't lit when we were there, so I'm not sure if it is working or if you're allowed to light it.) There were no restrooms that I could see, so plan accordingly.

My son and I drove down from central Ohio to swim and boat, and we decided to get a late lunch at the lodge. As noted in an earlier review, everything here is made from scratch. They also have an extensive Ohio beer and wine list, too. Very good for those staying in the nearby cabins or campsites. They have Lake Erie fish, Ohio bred beef and chicken, vegetarian dishes, and on occasion, ribs. The service was exceptional...local people who knew the history of the park and the area. We were lucky enough to be here on a breezy summer day with a temp of about 75 degrees. We sat at one of the four tables on the outside deck overlooking the lake. Sumptuous food, unbelievable view, and sterling service. We will be back and will be bringing family & friends. Dessert, by the way, consisted of brownie with fresh made cream and s'mores. Not the light lunch I had planned, but you only go around this topsy turvy merry go round once. Enjoy! (Ohio just poured a huge pile of cash into renovating its parks, so perhaps the beach and boathouse area, dated but serviceable, will be renovated soon?) I love going down to AEP for hiking, camping, and fishing…read more It's a great spot to go with friends for a weekend, and there are so many campsites and areas that you could explore all summer and never see the same place twice. The area boasts over 600 individual lakes and ponds! I have spotted everything from turkeys to mountain lions in these hills and I'll always come back. Prepare for NO CELL PHONE SERVICE when driving in and no gas stations. Pack well and make sure you have all you need before you get off the exit!
