Fairly large campground with spots that aren't too close together. Beach is typically dragged each morning in the summer and canoes, kayaks, and even motorized pontoon boats for rent. The motorized pontoon is blasphemy for those of us who have been going to the park since the 1970s, but they aren't so many that it is too loud or disruptive. There is one short trail that is accessible for all and there is a mix of pit and flush toilet facilities. There is no life guard at the beach but there is a safe and sizable enclosed playground for young ones.

Our family is used to rustic-style tent camping; however, we decided to shake it up a bit and try a cabin. When searching for campsites, we saw that these new, modern cabins were available and decided to give them a try. All I can say is WOW!!! These cabins blew us away, from their architecture to the amenities we were provided, they felt luxurious. Closer to an AirBNB than a cabin. We didn't need half of what we packed, as provided for us were towels, pots, pans, utensils, silverware, dinnerware, potholders, firewood, etc. We stayed in cabin 1 and were able to bring our 2 dogs with us. They had a blast walking around the campsite (we walked down the RV and tent camping areas too). While there is limited wi-fi in the cabins (doesn't quite reach the bedrooms) and satellite TV, there is no cell service. For us, this was ideal as we enjoy disconnecting from technology for a bit, but we wanted to share in case this would concern anyone looking to stay. When leaving, you can use the provided broom and dustpan to straighten up a bit. We left any used towels in the bathroom, returned all dishes to their respective places after cleaning, and took our trash to the dumpster. If you have time, we highly recommend checking out the Appalachian Hills Visitor Center for the bison, Big Muskie, and The Wilds! Overall, we had an amazing time, and we are already planning our next stay! This cabin may have made "glampers" out of this rustic family!

All have similar design and unique artistic flair. Fully furnished, nice comfortable furniture and they thought of almost everything. The kitchen had most everything you might need. Missing paper towels/napkins, wine glasses, ice cube trays, grill utensils. Our cabin, # 8, had nice bedrooms, comfortable beds and linens. Closets but no hangers. Bathroom modern and spacious. Plenty of towels but no shower soap or shampoo, so be sure to bring your own. A little odd that a couple of hall windows facing the parking lot had no window coverings. Two bedrooms share a bathroom so you had to walk through the hall to access bathroom, right past the viewing windows. Covered outdoor dining area was super nice. The only downside was there wasn't much to do. We were hoping for nice hiking trails in the park but they don't have developed trails. There may be some a short drive away but the ones we tried were not well kept, narrow with lots of poison ivy. Fairly close to The Wilds so it would be a great place for families to stay. They do have two pickleball courts, and a basketball hoop. No pool. WiFi in cabin but cell service is sketchy while driving through the area. Be prepared and download directions and info before you leave the cabin.

We would consider renting again as we are in the area frequently but hope that they will consider new practices and measures. Addition: being handed the life jackets with no additional cost is great. The visitor center is beautiful and new with 2 EV car chargers in the parking lot. Clean bathrooms, interesting things to see, and live animals that you could see in the park. The lake is gorgeous. We went to the beach, which is under construction and was weird to go to while the bathrooms, parking lot, etc are under construction and there were so many workers and big vehicles around. But the beach is open, and it's a nice beach. I wish we had rented a pontoon boat in the lake, that looked beautiful. Now we have to go back so that we can go on a boat there!

We rented a houseboat from the marina. They took the boat out for us and brought it back into the…read moremarina. The marina was very clean and staff friendly. We rented a houseboat from 5/14-17, there were 4 of us. I have a lot of experience with VRBO type rentals. The houseboat was in good working order, had all the amenities dishes, toaster, TV, Vcr, 2 staterooms with double bed, two additional berths with double beds and the couch pulls out to a double bed. The boat was pretty simple to operate. Cell Service we had service in two of closest coves to the marina , AT&T no Verizon. We didn't have any complainants .. other then poor weather. You just have to have reasonable expectations. This is glorified camping on the water. We had a great time three generations of boys getting together to do a little fishing while we ate good, played some cards, watched a couple of movies, explored the lake. Cons: The lake is allegedly dry, but it seems to be one of those don't ask don't tell type things. Tips: Bring some work gloves when you are tying the boat to shore there are a few sticker bushes etc, bring a small hatchet same issue to use when tying the boat off. I would also have a pair of jeans for the same purpose. next year we will probably bring a small dingy to pull behind to do a little fishing from.

The campsites had a small bundle of wood for a campfire and they were really well spaced out so you don't feel that you are right on top of the next site. The hot showers and restrooms were well maintained and really nice after falling in on our kayak excursion:) Thanks Shane
