Last year this company came and did a free estimate on our basement. The guy that showed up reeked of cigarettes and cussed non stop in front of my young kids. He was the face of bad customer service and gave a seriously heavy sales pitch. He tried to sign us up for a $28000 basement job and got angry when we told him we weren't signing anything at the moment. He gave us so many red flags. If only I could leave negative stars.... This review is based on the sales pitch. After having some water come into the basement which may or may not resulted in mold , I decided to contact OSW since I have seen advertisements in Val pak, malls, state fairs, etc. a guy named bob came out and like others mentioned, put on a high pressure sales pitch. Unfortunately for him I'm well versed in these pitches. I have sat and turned down a time share presentation and worked for Kirby vacuums for 1 day and quit because I knew I couldn't do that to customers and also quit after a few hours of selling cutco knives for the same reason. So yeah I refuse to be a an all talking salesman lying just to get a sale. Anyways, after taking measurements, I thought I would get a quote and be done. Nope. 2 hours of him talking about patented state of the art system, showing pictures. And saying my name in every sentence he spewed. After a 36k quote, I informed him I needed to do some homework, research, check reviews and get a couple more quotes for my decision making process as the price itself was not affordable; the price was more than a car and 20% of my entire house value just for basement waterptoofing. He wouldnt take no and claimed I could finance it thru them,which I refused bc 36k with interest will become around 55k. He even tried offering x amount of years, as if I wanted to spend a bid chunk it the unforeseeable in severe debt. What pissed me off was when he tried to feed off my wife's vulnerability by trying to convince her we are bad parents and exposing our kids to mold and they are going to have health problems if we don't sign today. Anyone who tries to make you sign off on a major purchase denying you the chance to research and sleep on it should immediately be disqualified for services. I'm very concerned how others will and are being taking advantage of with these sales pitches. Never will I know how their service is bc they lost their chance with an inappropriate sales pitch, but judging from the negative reviews with owner Ron responding, he is very dismissive and does not offer to make things right. If your experience was with the sales pitch similar to mine, please leave a review for others : you may just save 1 person from making a Rushed poor decision!! I see why they are the most outrageously expensive: osw spends a ton in advertising but once they get your money, they are on the hunt for the next sale. read more

They use high pressure sales tactics , terrible customer service reps and will quote you a 30k+ outrageously high amount for things you will never need. Did I mention they buy positive reviews? They use Birdeye reputation service which just goes to show you this company cant get a good reputation on their own so they buy it from another company who floods them with fake positive reviews. Last but not least if they do respond to this review I am sure they will say "oh we have no record of you in our system, we never quoted you etc..." and will sign their responses with "Sincerely , Ohio State Waterproofing". My wife called for a free consultation. She was immediately questioned whether or not we were the homeowners and she told them we are. They then began to argue the semantics of our ownership and said they would want to see the deed. They told us that the pre-inspection was only for homeowners, which we are, and they would not do a free inspection. Their ad does not mention being the homeowner so it's irrelevant and a moot point. When we bought our house a couple years ago we were pleasantly surprised to find out our basement was covered under warranty by Ohio State Waterproofing. This is our first home with sump pumps and we definitely feel more at ease knowing that if we have any problems all we have to do is call and they come out. This past year I noticed some slight seeping in a corner of the basement and they were out in no time at all to dig up the floor, fix the problem and replace the concrete and it was all covered under warranty. And their customer service is wonderful. I would recommend them to anyone needing waterproofing. read more

First let me tell you that my basement is dry and my problem is solved. With that being said I would NEVER let this company do another thing in my home. Obviously the sales rep came out and promised the world to get the agreement. When the crew came out to do the work, the site foreman was the only person that could speak English. The workmanship was horrible at best. Just to mention a few, they had to move the utility tub and broke the drain. They taped it up when finished and it leaked all over the place. They broke one of the ceiling fixtures, never told me they did it. When they re-cemented the floor, they also cemented the legs of my utility tub into the floor, which had to be cut off to fix. I found out a couple months ago, when my sump pump quite working, that the extra cement they had was poured into the sump crock. My air conditioning units had to be moved to dig the perimeter. They kinked the coolant line and a costly repair had to be done to reinstall the units. They did offer to pay for this repair. After the work was complete, we still had mold issues in our basement. The humidity was way too high. After several months of complaining, they installed a dehumidifier in the basement and that seemed to work. Then they keep bugging me to post a "positive" review....... and we will pay you $25.00 to do it. This is how Ohio State Water Proofing gets their good reviews,,, they pay for them! Well Melissa,, you can keep your 25 dollars and I'll just write an honest review instead of one you pay for. They explained things each step of the process, every day gave me an update at the end (took 3 days) at the end did a full walk through inside and out. They listened to and addressed my concerns. NEVER USE THIS SERVICE. I've had many problems with my basement after they 'fixed it'. Please read this entire review to see how many issues I've had, including unethical practices, new problems with my water situations, and RUDE service. As for their unethical nature, they emailed requesting a review in exchange for $25, but only if it's a positive review. That's completely unethical and the exact reason I'm taking the time to post an honest, negative review. They should not be buying good press, which shows what a hard time they're having getting praise for their service. In terms of the quality of their system, I have had water issues TWICE since they "fixed" my basement. One of those incidents included a 4-foot-wide mud delta (about 3 inches deep) in my utility room. I'd never had that problem before. In addition, when they first put in the system they were going to leave a 2-inch gap in the new hole in the side of my house - that I could see light through - until I asked them to seal it. Also, Their sump pumps failed twice, including the battery backup both times. To compound the problems, their personal customer service is pathetic. Here is the situation leading up to why I say that. The second time the sump pumps failed, the system beeped loudly for hours before they arrived to fix it. It continued to beep even thought there was a silence button. I pushed the button several times but it would not stop beeping. When the tech arrived to look at it, he looked at me with sarcasm and said, "I guess you didn't see the silence button." It was rude, insulting, presumptuous, and completely unnecessary. I was transferred a warranty when I bought my house. So far my interactions with them have been great. I made the annual payment and they were immediately able to set up an inspection to make sure everything is A-ok. They will even ensure the sump pump is working properly. I wish I read these reviews before we signed up for the free consultation. We came across this company at the Home Improvement show and they signed us up there and then. Then when they came to our house (I was still working) and my husband was home, they said they couldn't do the inspection. What a load of crap. They wanted to reschedule and my husband said no way, we will take our business elsewhere. I will mention that when someone called to confirm the appointment, she was super rude and was so pushy about changing the appointment if I couldn't be there. What kind of business is this? I had my basement done by this company in 2012. Overall, I'm happy with the work they did. My basement is dry. Pros: I haven't had any water in the basement since they parged the walls and installed a sump. The warranty is only $50/year to renew, which is well worth the peace of mind. I had a problem with the sump last year. Looked like the battery had failed, so after calling to see what they could do, at their recommendation I replaced the battery for about $200 (my cost). The battery failure light didn't go out when I hooked up the new battery, even after several days. I called again and they sent a man out to look at it, and he replaced the entire pump for me, under warranty, for no charge. He explained to me that the warranty had actually run out a few weeks prior to his visit, but in his judgement he felt replacement under warranty was still merited, since I had been having problems with it for a few weeks prior to his service call. He didn't doubt anything I told him or act like I was trying to put one past the company, he took me at my word and was very professional about everything. Good man. Cons: - I have a small room under my front porch, where they installed the sump. The floor in there was cracked and uneven, and I was expecting them to pour a new floor in there. When they had completed the work, this was not done. When I asked the crew about it, they told me that it wasn't part of the work. I disagreed. A supervisor came out a week or two after the work was done to inspect the work and verify that I was satisfied, and I mentioned this to him. He looked at it, and agreed that the crew absolutely should have repaired the floor, and he had a crew out and finished the work for no extra charge. I'm grateful for the work being done, but it should have been done on the original work order. I do have to credit the company for not arguing about it with me and making it right, though. - I have a toilet in the basement, which I do not use. When the work crew was out they apparently turned the water on to it, and used it, and left it leaking water. After the work was done, I could hear a running water sound, but I couldn't figure out the cause. Not suspecting the toilet, I guessed that perhaps the sound was due to the waterproofing work somehow. I had to take a 2-week trip out of town the weekend after the work was done. After I returned, I had a water bill in excess of $2400 from the leaking toilet. I put 2 and 2 together and realized what had happened, and then contacted Ohio State Waterproofing to tell them what had happened, expecting that they would deny and give me a hard time, and that I'd have to get a lawyer. To my surprise, they apologized and said to send a copy of the bill to them, and they would reimburse me. I did, and had a check from them about a week later. I was really thankful that I didn't have to sue them for the water bill. - I had some built-in shelves along the wall, original to the house, which they ripped out when they installed the Dura-Shield, and didn't re-build. I complained about this, and they said that they would reimburse me if I sent a bill for replacement shelving. I never did replace the shelves, so never got any money for it. I would have preferred that they check with me before ripping the woodwork out, I would have told them to install their product up to the edge of the shelf, and not worry about going behind it. Bottom line: I paid a LOT of money for a dry basement, and they delivered. I haven't had a water problem since the work was done, and they have shown integrity in making things right where I did have several complaints which cost them thousands of dollars to resolve, and they never gave me a hard time about any of it. read more

Where to begin with these guys. I've never been so disappointed with a service company like Ohio state waterproofing. Forget the high pressure sales pitch from 5 years ago. I can understand the sales aspect. Forget the fact that I paid $15,000 for the job (even though I was quoted half or less by others). Forget the fact that they never capped the well that was leaking water directly in the basement (salesman said "oh yeah, we'll take care of that". Workers, day of job said, "oh no, we dont do that kind of stuff") Forget that after a separate inspection these 5 years later, I find out they didnt dig deep enough for the drainage system. My basement is still damp, I stopped receiving the warranty bill from them (no clue why) forgot to pay them for a couple years. (My fault I know, but hard to remember to pay a once a year bill, without some kind of reminder....) But after attempting to reinstate the warranty by catching up with my dues. They want to charge me another $1500 to be able to reinstate it. So, whats this warranty you talk about again? A guarantee to fleece you for a load of cash, perform shotty work to begin and end with, and try to make you feel like the one who's the asshole in every situation. This company needs better leadership and employees from the TOP all the way down.... read more

When my wife and I purchased our home a few years ago, it had already been waterproofed by Ohio State. All we needed to do was to keep up with paying our annual warranty renewal. A couple of years after moving in, we decided to refinish our basement. I pulled off all the wall paneling to find that there was none of the waterproofing panels to cover the holes directing the outside water into the interior plumbing to the sump pump. We couldn't continue our project without getting this fixed first, so I called Ohio State. They came out and re-did the entire system at no charge. It delayed our project a bit, but we were confident that we could refinish our basement and not have to worry about water or moisture issues. It was awesome! read more

Short review: It's a DIRTY job, but if you have to have someone do it... YOU WANT THESE GUYS! A+++++++++++ Long review: 1. Salesmen took their time with us and helped us pick out the best options for our home. They needed both my husband and I present for the consult to go over the details of this project. I appreciated that aspect as most sales people will disregard one or the other spouse. We opted for interior and exterior package. Although it was the most expensive, it is something we will NEVER have to worry about again and the warranty transfers with the house! 2. The pricing and scheduling was fair and as painless as waterproofing can be. 3. We were super impressed by the thoroughness of the foreman (Chester) and OVERWHELMINGLY IMPRESSED with the crew! The weather they were in was frigid at best and they dug their hearts out - EVEN UNDER OUR DECK! Wow! They carried in buckets of dirt and stone to put into the reservoir created for the interior portion of the project. The amount of work they put into the project THEY DESERVE A RAISE!!! They worked hard and it was a pleasure to cook lunch for them! 4. The job was dirty. There is no other way to put it. However, the guys taped down plastic and cardboard on top of that. They also covered the steps with protective plastic. They covered all of our carpet and anything else they expected to come into contact with with plastic and card board. Clean up was thorough and much better than I expected. Although my clean up was also extensive I cannot imagine anything they could do different to mitigate the cleanliness of the job. 5. The job was done efficiently and fast. They gave us an estimate of 5 to 7 business days. They were complete in 4. They did not rush the job but they put in an honest days work and got the job done! 6. They went through the entire job site with me upon completion. They took the time to explain what was done and what to expect. (sinking earth, alarm on backup sump pump, curing and moisture on the freshly laid concrete, etc.) Anything pointed out was immediately handled (a crack in the basement floor) without an attitude! No egos involved here! 7. The company actually sent out a manager to follow up with us post job completion and several weeks after completion to make sure the job was done complete and that we were satisfied. I can't get other companies to answer the phone let alone track me down to come out and see how they did! A++++ Several minor issues (sinking dirt, concrete that needed to be trimmed, a door that was taken off the hinges is not right, etc.) were graciously noted and we are scheduled for repairs (yes, on the same day I was called to schedule) for a few weeks from now to see how much more the dirt would settle. The manager, Ron, was so helpful and concerned about the performance of the salesmen, foreman, crew and himself, it was unlike any company I have ever dealt with. 8. A "WOW" moment was when their crew/foreman noticed a leak in our basement toilet grinder system and our pre-existing sump pump (which was also BRAND NEW)... they didn't give us the old line, "Well, you need to get someone out here to fix this..." THEY FIXED IT!!! Yes, they went above and beyond and fixed part of our house that were not part of the estimate or the job they were doing!!! AMAZING! THEY DON'T MAKE COMPANIES LIKE THIS ANYMORE!!! The warranty will need a small fee (Approximately $80 annually) and they will come out and do any and all repairs, fixes and inspections to make sure it is all still working as intended. (Minus the sump pump battery operated backup - that has a limited warranty on it.) All in all, this experience was amazing. We called several other companies and had two others come out for estimates. NO ONE was as thorough, pleasant and complete as OSW. I highly recommend using them!!! read more

Ohio State Waterproofing did extensive work for us in 2004. Our house is two stories so most of our basement is living space. They waterproofed the entire basement and added a sump pump. Later, they added a back up batter pack and pump to the main sump pump. Over the last 14 years there have been minor issues here and there and they have dealt with all of it quickly and thoroughly. We have always paid the $50/year fee for the transferable warranty. The fact is, they have always stood behind their work and been very responsive to requests. Nobody likes to pay for basement waterproofing ...it's sort of like a root canal but it has to be done sometimes to save the foundation and to improve the air quality in the house. We contracted with Ohio State Waterproofing after a cold call at front door and things worked out very well. There has been no water in the basement even during the heaviest rains. They were very careful with the plantings around the perimeter and cleaned up very nicely at the end. We had a few concerns after the completion of the job and they responded quickly and professionally. We like the idea of the transferable warranty and certainly feel that a dry basement in a 90 year old house is a good selling point. read more

Tried to get a quote in Boardman from this company a month ago. Someone came out quoted approx $15k and would email details. Called 2 days later for details said would email soon. Called next day said quote was not right need to send someone else out. Set up appointment for a week later for 6 p.m. - they called at 5:45 said could not come need to schedule for a week later. When next appointment time came they never showed up and never called. Called to see what happened wanted to schedule another appointment. Asked to speak to boss / manager they said that's not the way we do things here. Terrible, terrible service. Can only imagine what would happen if there was an issue with their work. Ohio State just finished up installing our basement system today. What I liked: Crew was amazing. Showed up on time every day, worked incredibly hard in miserable weather conditions, answered all of our questions, and were very respectful. They got the job done much quicker than I expected. I hope these guys are paid what they are worth, which is a lot. What I didn't like: the whole sales approach. I am not convinced that we needed everything that we purchased. Don't like that the price had lots of wiggle room, and that nothing is itemized. Feels like a scam. My house, originally built ~1955 and expanded 1986, provided quite a challenge. Multiple foundation walls, a very low clearance (as low as ~2') and a narrow floor opening made access to the crawlspace difficult. After heavy spring rains, I'd had as much as 4" of water in the crawlspace. It was still very muddy when they began work. The foreman did an excellent job of assessing issues as they arose, and finding engineering solutions. The work took longer than initially expected, and they brought in extra crew to get the job done at no additional cost to me. In the week following the end of installation, we had nearly 3" of rain. Had basement waterproofed back in 2011. Took about 3 days. The crew wasn't the best replacing the dirt around the outside of my house, but when their supervisor did his final walkthrough with me, I didn't even have to ask, he saw it and made them come back out to more evenly spread the dirt they dug up. No issues since then. The battery backup sump failed in 2017 and they came out and replaced it in less than a week of me calling with a new unit under the lifetime warranty (it was well past the manufacturer warranty). Just had a courtesy inspection (they called me to be proactive) so OSW could check and make sure everything still looked good, no leaks or issues, etc. Was nice of them to check in and come out and look for things I may not notice. We had and estimated (sadly I arrived late) spouse signed. We cancelled the agreement the next day. The office is only 15 minutes from our home. He signed and dated the cancellation form and drove it to M at the OSW office. He asked about the deposit. To get the deposit back M. insist the rep has to come back to our home for my husband to "sign" the work order to cancel the deal and he would bring our deposit check. I called our attorney. Our attorney is just as confused as we are. We followed the terms of cancellation. So it will be us and our attorney seeing how this plays out. Mind you we offered to come to the office to sign everything but were told the reps aren't in the office. So the reps never go to the office and are just driving around with checks and contracts. Ah huh.... We even offered to go to his home, why not, he's been to ours we can do it in the driveway since they say it's only going to take 5 minutes. Too many red flags to cancel a deal THE NEXT DAY. I'll update this review tomorrow after our 4pm appointment. PART 2 - Two reps showed up THE NEXT DAY at 4pm. They were very professional, offered an additional discount and ask had they done anything wrong. They stated they did not need to come out because we had taken the cancellation form to the office. We advised them we called FOUR times and M and P INSISTED they HAD to come back out. They stated it was a mistake we were advised of such a requirement. We expected a hard sell and had our attorney on speaker phone. We just wanted our deposit returned. Visit was short and we received our deposit check. After all of this we didn't have any comfort using OSW . During the wait for the mandatory visit we received THREE additional quotes for 30-40% lower than the OSW quote with two including a larger scope of waterproofing and repair (aka more work for less money) to resolve our issue. We are going with the contractor recommended by the company who completed our 2000 sq ft addition. OSW just wasn't a good fit for us. read more

I was replacing the carpet in the finished area of my basement and there were a couple of weeks between when I tore up the carpet and when I had the new carpet put down. I noticed a quarter-sized wet spot on the bare concrete and call them right away. They came out and took care of it. It took less a than an hour to deal with the problem (which seems to have been caused by the house settling over the years) and the gentleman that did the work was friendly and polite. I was worried that it would still cost me for the repair, but the warranty covered it. Ohio State Waterproofing water proofed my basement before I bought my house, but I had the warranty transferred to my name and have been keeping it up for the 3-4 years I have lived here. My original problem was my floor drains allowing water into my basement during wet weather. My basement walls also had some damp spots. I contracted for a complete basement waterproofing including check valves that were guaranteed to stop the water coming in my drains. I still get some water coming up the floor drains during heavy drain, not flooding the basement but getting the floor wet so who cares that the walls are dry. Corrections were attempted. Floor drain checks were installed and the main check valves were replaced to no avail. Was told they normally don't guarantee something like this.
