Would give 10 stars if I could. Small place basically take out. Best pulled pork ever. You pick a bread(white or brown) a spread(sage and onion or haggis) and then a sauce. They have three different sizes. The servers are friendly and walk you through if it's your first time. The pulled pork is tender, juicy and cooked just right.

With all the sit down restaurants some times a good BBQ sandwich is perfect. Oink made me squeal. The roll was very fresh and the pork meat tender and flavorful. Oink added something like a spread to the pork (which is not common in the US) but it seemed to add flavor. The joint gets crowded but service is fast. The pig decor added to the ambiance.

I like when restaurants focus on doing just one thing really well. Limited seating, but it's a quick meal, so you should be able find space. No public restroom, so be sure to grab a lot of napkins because it's gonna get messy. Grunter on Brown Bread with Sage and Onion Stuffing and Apple Sauce: Well, the Grunter is definitely a huge portion. So much pork, sometimes you don't even get bread in the bite. Really liked the tenderness of the pork. Seemed fresh, since I saw the worker scooping from the whole roast hog behind the counter. I especially like the little bit of crispy skin that was placed on top the bun. The sage and onion stuffing was mild, but added some flavor. The apple sauce might not have been a strong enough pairing. Maybe mustard would have stood up to all that pork.

For being a steak lover, my bf made a shocking declaration -- good pork is superior to good beef; though the latter is easier to find, in his experience. He was all *heart eyes emoji* at the giant roast pig in Oink's window. Similar to Filipino lechon, American South pulled pork, & Hawaiian kalua pig, Scottish hog roast draws large crowds because it is tender & flavorful. We ordered the smallest sandwich on the menu -- the Piglet size for £5.95 on a white roll -- & for toppings, chose sage & onion stuffing, apple sauce, & extra crackling (55p more.) I have no doubt I'd be dragged back to Oink if I were to drag my bf back to Edinburgh. Cashiers get you in & out as quickly as they can but the store is small & absolutely jam packed. We ate right outside on Victoria St. which is a great memory from our trip!

A highly recommended sandwich shop we were told to try. I tried the Oink with white bread stuffing was a homemade haggis with homemade mustard mayo and adding crackling. Meat was very tender and the crackling was perfect contrast to the melt in your mouth pork and bread. Wife had the Oink with brown bread with Sage and Onion and homemade chili cheese adding crackling also. The service is fast and staff is helpful in choosing what you want in your sandwich. The store itself is small and limited seating if it was not raining at the time we would have just taken it to go and eat it while working.

Located on one of Edinburgh's prettiest, most picturesque streets in Old Town, Oink simply can't be missed! Farmers Adam and Sandy wanted to bring their natural products from the farm to the city. Passionate about good honest food, they introduced Edinburgh to their deliciously fresh Scottish hog roasts at the local Farmers Market which turned out to be a huge success. In 2008, Oink was born and they have been serving Edinburgh's locals and visitors alike along Victoria Street and the Royal Mile ever since. If the large, chopped up roast in the window doesn't catch your eye, the bright pink signage surely will! Who can resist delicious pulled pork on freshly baked bread rolls? I know I couldn't. Head inside and you'll find their menu explaining how to order the Hog Roast Rolls. The freshly carved hog roast is served in a white or brown roll with a choice of sage & onion, apple sauce, chilli relish or haggis and topped with crispy crackling. I can't remember which stuffing and sauce I got exactly, but I do remember it was quite tasty! Oink was a really convenient, fast-casual meal and it was also one of the more affordable meals we had in Old Town. They wrap your sandwich up in foil so we were also able to easily bring it along with us and eat it on the way to our next destination. We visited in May of 2022, but I imagine (and hope) not much has changed. Overall, definitely recommend a stop here!

It's a fast food restaurant served pulled pork. They have 2 locations in Edinburgh, we went to the one on Victoria street while we were in the area. They have a very tiny dining area. It's very crowded inside so I noticed people didn't really sit down to eat. The line was very long but it moved pretty quickly. They have menu on the wall in English, French, Spanish and Italian showing how to order food here. Basically, you can order Hog in a box ( 250gm meat without bread) OR with freshly baked roll comes in 3 size - piglet (80gm small), Oink (160gm medium) and grunter (250gm large). Both options come with 1 stuffing and sauce. Besides that you can also get their combo with crips or drink. Service was fast and super friendly. We ordered the hog in the box with apple sauce, haggis, and a Grunter with homemade BBQ sauce. I honestly didn't get the hype of this place. Pull pork was dry and not flavorful. Apple sauce and haggis made the taste a bit different/unique. I had pull pork better else, especially in Asia. Overall, good portion for under 10 GBP but I wouldn't return.

Piggybacking off of Ricardo J.'s review, yes this did hit the spot. While taking a stroll through Victoria Street, I noticed a line coming out of this fast-casual spot. Of course, it piqued my curiosity and I found myself waiting in line like a lemming. They focus on their pork sandwiches. The menu is not big but works for them. Choose from several different combinations and sizes. There's a small area to sit down to take a quick bite. Grunter- Brown bread, pulled pork, haggis, with homemade chili jam. This was the largest size. They toast bread, so it's nice, warm, and fluffy. The pork was juicy. And the creamy haggis with the tang from the chili jam paired perfectly with the pork. There's just a lot of comforting savoriness in each bite. Overall Service: Even though there was a line, it moves quickly. Everyone here was jovial and helpful. Highly recommend this spot.

Thank you, Rosie Q., for putting this place on my list of places to eat in Edinburgh. It definitely hit the spot when it was needed. We came here late in the day and, like a good Texas BBQ place, it sells meat until they run out most days and not when they are slated to close. I still managed to get an "Oinker" size sandwich with the pork, chili sauce, and sage and onion mix. Think of it as roast pork with some spicy sauce and stuffing flavor. Yet the tenderness of the pork and the quality of ingredients elevated it to something much more. The staff was friendly enough and answered all the questions some other customers had - such as - "is this pork?" Here's your sign. The two young men hustled and helped us get a great sandwich at a great price. This was the perfect spot for a quick warm bite on a cold day. Seating is limited, though, so be prepared to eat on the street. Enjoy the view of Victoria Street, then, and good luck trying to take your time eating a masterpiece from here.

The roasted pig head (lechon) in the window will get your attention on Victoria Street. It's very very cozy inside with limited seats and a line that's long, but it goes quick if you know what you want. You order your size, white/brown bread, choice of sage and stuffing or haggis spread, then choice of homemade sauce. I ordered the Oink Meal with the stuffing and chili sauce. Loved the small piece of crunchy skin on top of the bun. The pork was moist and filling. It was really good!

Conveniently located on the bustling Victoria street. Right in the center of everything and it's easy to find (look for the bright pink). Could get pretty crowded during the peak times as this was featured on a lot of films. You first pick your size , then if you want onions or haggis, and then you choose one sauce. Anything more are additional charges. Everything is wrapped in foil for "to-go" but there are 1 or 2 seats inside if you want to eat there. They have a glass window right in the front so you can see all of the pulled meat and them making it. Anything smaller than the largest grunter size is pretty small and not filling, but the largest size is about 10 euros (which I find kind of expensive for what you are getting). The size all depends on the amount of grams of meat you are getting. I went with the twist with haggis inside of it which gave it a very interesting after taste. It wasn't my favorite, but when in Scotland right? It had flavor but it honestly wasn't my favorite sandwhich I've ever had. Interesting to try once to say you've had it in your travels, but probably wouldn't return just from the taste (it could be a personal preference).

Good, cheap, fast, and a bit messy eat for a quick lunch. The pork is very tender served piping hot with soft hot buns. Definitely recommend stopping by at some point if you're in Edinburgh for the festival. read more

What a great concept! With the whole hog presented in the window, it's real as fresh and honest as it gets. I tried the kids sandwich with their most popular sauce, and it was worth every pound! I can't wait to come back and get it again. Worth the trip! read more

Definitely the place to go for a quick delicious lunch whilst roaming around Edinburgh. Super tasting pork roll which was pipping hot on a fresh roll. I popped in for lunch when I was exploring the grassmarket with a friend. Would definitely go again! read more

Soft pork sandwiches in white bread is the only available order in this little themed lunch place. Well, you can choose what size sandwich and between white and even-whiter bread. This has all the building blocks of a truly mouthwatering, divine, porkalicious mouth extravaganza... But alas! the pork just isn't that good. The sour elements flat. The bread from plastic bags. I've had five star pork sandwiches, that I drive 45mins for. This is not it and you end up regretting not getting something else instead. Super nice service, though. read more

This is the quintessential example of doing one thing and doing it perfectly. This place really only does one thing, pulled pork rolls, but the pork rolls you get here are hands down phenomenal. I got one with haggis and chili cheese and I was in heaven for 5 minutes. You can't ask for a better quick lunch in Edinburgh. read more

Holy wow that cracklin' is like delicious meat candy. This was a perfect lunch, with every component lending itself to a party in my mouth (I went with a brown roll, sage stuffing, apple relish, and of course cracklin... add in the tender flavorful roasted pork and you're in heaven). And for a reasonable price too. This is a no brainer, if you're any kind of pork lover you must have an Oink sandwich ASAP. read more

I came on a business trip to Edinburgh. I found it on Yelp and I was intrigued. I ordered the oink with haggis and the mild chili and loved it. Be sure to get the cracklin, as well on your sandwich. Great place for a quick bite while sightseeing near the castle. read more

Thee best meal we had during our visit to Scotland. Travellers do not pass this place up. Pig Sandwich with haggis, apple spread and crackling skin was OUTSTANDING. Wish we would of had it sooner instead of our last day there or we would of ate there everyday. Hope to make it back in the future read more

Literally my favorite food joint ever! I stopped by Scotland on a Europe tour and this is by far the best food place I've been to. The sandwiches are delicious, customizable, and cheap! I thought the oink portion was going to be small but they stuff it with a lot of meat so I was full from just one sandwich. I came here constantly during my stay in Edinburgh and I would come back to Scotland just for the sandwiches here! read more

Pork sandwich: small, medium, or large - all else are details. Had mine with sage dressing and sweet chili sauce with a ginger beer. Tender pork pulled from a whole roasted hog prominently displayed in the front window. Having grown up going to L.A. Chinatown delis with roast pigs and ducks hanging from windows, Oink's display didn't faze me so I went hog wild. Tasty food at reasonable prices in a store with cute pig displays. I had my first Oink yesterday at the new Canongate location. What a simple, wonderful treat it was. I had the pork on wheat roll with sage/onion, apple sauce and BBQ sauce while the boy had white roll, haggis and BBQ sauce. He said it was the best sandwich he'd ever had. read more

On victoria st near the grassmarket - this is the best food plave in that area easily (that ive been to anyway). It's easy to find, just look for the whole cooked pig in the window. The menu is pork rolls in 3 sizes - piglet (for kids), oinker and grunter (the big one). I went for the grunter with haggis and apple sauce and was very satisfied. The other filling options are onion and sage stuffing and chilli sauce which i'll definitely be back for. read more

I didn't even notice the place until I walked by then the smell hit me hard. I had to go in and try one of these sandwiches. It was amazing... melt in your melt and full of flavor. Get extra crackling, I made the mistake the first time and won't again, possibly the best part. For the quality of food, and flavor I would have expected to pay more money. If your in the area I highly recommend you stop by for a sandwich or a drool...your choice. read more

This will be my regular lunch stop in town. Probably the one place in UK that beats American BBQ joints... yeah, that good. Maybe because the first time I had it was freezing cold and late afternoon, but the meat was plenty, tender and juicy. The chili sauce reminds me of St. Louis bbq. Sorry, vegetarian friends, pig is the only thing on menu here. Oh, and expect to eat your sammy standing up. read more

Wow, what a great concept! Happened upon this place today on the way to Holyrood so we decided to stop in after seeing the hog with crisy crackling in the front window. They keep it simple with just a few toppings so nothing distracts from the juicy tenderness of the pork. I had mine with the stuffing, apple and bbq sauce on the side. The meat is so flavorful and delish by itself. Get some crackling on the side; it's so crispy and tasty and gave my roll a nice crunch. This is a nice, quick lunch and is very reasonably priced for such high quality. read more

Simply and utterly fabulous -- the best pork I've had, ever, anywhere, anytime. Among the best meat I ever had. Unlike factory raised pork, this isn't your "other white meat." Dark, succulent and deliciously fatty. I keep my order simple -- no bread, no sauce and no sides, just meat and cracklin. Actually tried some haggis once, which is offered as a side, on one visit. The haggis was fine even though it wasn't in the casing, but the pork is sublime. The staff are friendly and the prices are reasonable. Keep up the excellent work. I'll be back the next time I'm in town. read more

Just had an oink (a sandwhich) this afternoon. The place keeps the menu simple with only a few items to choose from but those few items sure do taste good. Pick a roll, pick a sauce, put some hog on there and your out the door in under 2 minutes! Definitely try it out! read more

My sister and I visited this fine city in May and we passed Oink and smelled the ever so yummy pork aroma and marched on in. I had told her that we need to eat haggis at some point because someone back home will ask and we cant wimp out and say no. The very nice young man at the counter told us our sandwich options and when the dressings included haggis I asked him if it was good ( as if Id know the difference!) and he said " yes, its homemade by my Aunt". Well who can say no to good home cooking? It was actually good and I had that, the sage and onion and the applesauce on my big oink sandwich and was very happy with the entire experience as well as being able to scratch "eating haggis" off my list of things to do. Edinburgh in general was a wonderful place to visit and I wish we had had a few more days, but oh well, guess we'll have to go back! read more

Fast, cheap, delicious. Had haggiss for the first time. The smallest size is extremely tiny but the medium size is large enough to share if you want to grab a quick bite to eat. We had white bread. Apple with sage and onion was a good pairing but haggis with chili cheese was better. You also get offered crackling to add to your sandwich. I highly recommend this place! read more

Oink have been feeding hungry workers, local residents, students, festival goers, shoppers and tourists with their hog roast rolls 7 days a week ever since ! Adam and Sandy, The Farmers who went to Market! They began specialising in hog roasts in 2000 and brought their freshly carved hog roasts to the Edinburgh Farmers Market at Castle Terrace in 2001 (in fact they are the only business to have attended every single Saturday ever since.) Their delicious hog roasts (pulled pork as some of you know it) were such a runaway success with the public at the Farmers Market that they decided to open their very first shop in Edinburgh - and Oink was born.

Ive walked past Oink so many times and never been interested... The reason I finally went in was solely because of Qype ... Thank you Qypers! This is the exact reason Qype is so brilliant, it makes you try places you never would have set foot in before, its brilliant !! Ok now for the review, I dont even like pork really and would never think of ordering it in a restaurant and yes thats all Oink really is - pork rolls but oh my GOD are they good!!!! Ive had them once or twice in a market and they were ok but Oink is just another level of meat. Really, its THAT good... You can choose between brown and white rolls and three different sizes which are kids size - piglet, middle size - oinker or large - grunter ... GENIUS! You can then choose if you want crackling .... I cannot recommend their crackling enough and whether you want onion and sage stuffing or haggis. The last decision is chilli sauce or apple sauce... For two rolls and a ginger beer was around £9.50. Not bad for lunch for two. There isnt much seating but it doesnt take long to eat a roll either so you probably wouldnt have to wait that long... LOVE IT....
