Known for kebabs, shawarmas, and burgers, Yum Yum also does deep fried mars bars, which I noticed when I first went up the steps of the Close with their outdoor sign. Being that Edinburgh is one of the few areas that have spots that make these, I was happy to see Yum Yum did it. I'm basing my review off of my order experience. It was made quickly. Payment was fast. And the mars bars was decent. If I was drunk, I would probably be foodgasming more. But I will say, it was very good and pleased I was able to experience while I was in town.

Never thought that I would appreciate roasted hog this much this far north but I would go out on a limb to give it high recognition. The meat is seasoned well, the skin crispy, and if you're a late riser, you can have it for breakfast with delicious hagus and coffee. It goes without saying, public transportation is easiest way to get here besides walking. Post script: You can order extra skin pieces (0.55 £ per piece) with your sandwich so you don't need a whole box if you're on a figure watch.

However after reading Emily's review of Thyme in Holyrood, I thought I would give it a bash. I am so glad I did! The choice of fillings is amazing, and so much more exciting than ham and cheese/tuna mayo/chicken and sweetcorn. With fillings such as Sweet Chilli Tuna, Brie and Pinenuts, and Posh Cheddar I was spoiled for choice. There is a good selection of different rolls too as opposed to white or brown. As you go into the shop you pick your roll up from the basket and when you get to the front of the queue hand it over to the assistant who happily packs your sandwich full of yummyness. I went for Brie and Apple which had a multitude of different bits going in, and it tasted delicious. The girl in front of me had a Caesar salad and it looked awesome, a huge bowl filled with chicken, cous cous and salad. The salad selection is pretty great too, I think I will have to return to sample those. My sandwich was £3.05 but with student discount it was £2.75 which was a great price for the top quality nosh. The only thing was the writing on the menu on the wall was so darn small I couldn't read it.

Chicken pesto panini was great--plenty of marinated chicken and mozzarella, fine basil pesto, terrific bread. Only quibble is that the whole production was somewhat dry. There were something like 15 panini choices, so just about everybody ought to find something to their liking. No seating in the little shop, but you wouldn't want to eat here anyway. It was infernally hot inside (felt like 90 degrees F, Christ), and I don't know how the staff makes it through an entire shift. But the gardens at the parliament building are only a couple of minutes' walk away, and Holyrood Park just beyond that. In good weather, that's where you want to go. It was perfect lunch break for a massive urban walk that included the Royal Mile, Arthur's Seat, Calton Hill, and on back to the other side of Dean Village where we were staying.
